“Beautiful Setting, Excellent Service.”
Reviewed December 28, 2011

My wife and I, with our 8 month old son were recently in India for a wedding, splitting our time between Delhi and Kerala and decided to stay at the Zuri after much deliberation between the premier Kumarakom resorts. The decision came down to the fact that the private pool villas at the Zuri fitted within our budget.

The resort is beautiful with lovely landscaping and architecture with the backdrop of the lake. The facitlities were top class as well as the food and my wife and I both had spa treatments which were exceptional. Our room was beautiful and luxurious and the pool villa is a must. An international multi adaptor and wifi in the room were nice touches.

The stand out feature of this resort, however, was the service. Attentive, but not over bearing, personal but no too personal. They seemed to pitch it perfectly at every level. Our son looked forward to breakfast every day as the team at the restuarant would welcome him as if they were family! I particularly appreciate the help of Sree for providing surely the most exceptional and personal service we have ever encountered at a 5 star resort. In addition the kitchen staff went out of their way to ensure that our son (and of course ourselves!) was catered for, freshly preparing food everyday.

I have to say my wife and I were nervous about travelling with such a young baby in India but the staff at the resort ensured that all of our fears were allayed, and gave us the confidence we needed for the rest of our trip.

Thanks

It's an excellent resort which makes the visit to Kumarakom really a worth visit. The pool villas offered to us as an upgraded room was simply fantastic with very good swimming pool facing the river. They offer sumptuous food at their resort and above that the Restaurant staff is commendable and hospitable in a true sense. The resort is made up really well. I really enjoyed cycling there (although most of their cycles are in a bad condition) but that's a very minor thing keeping in mind their upkeep of the entire property. The public pool there is also good. I saw almost all the resorts in the vicinity and ultimately found this to be much ahead of any of it's competitor. Definitely worth recommending!!

Zuri lives up to a 5 star hotels reputation of providing you all luxuries in the middle of nowhere. The property is well spread out with with beautiful lake and lagoon views. The highlight of the resort is the Private Pool Villa and the Maya Spa. The spa is one of it's kind in India with the latest equipment and huge array of treatments. The private pool villa is perfect for people looking for privacy and openness - together!

Stayed with family in august 2011. Very calm and quiet place. Excellent for a couple of days of relaxation. Staff was very courteous and helpful. Got an upgrade to cottage, which was quite nice. Pick up and drop off from kottayam railway station was smooth and hassle free. Enjoyed the experience.

This was our first visit to India and it did not disappoint. The long journey from Cochin was well worth the wait. The staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful.
We stayed in a cottage with a lovely lake view, the room was spacious and the shower in the garden was a nice touch. The wifi access was not only limited to the room, as it worked everywhere in the resort. We particularly enjoyed the spa, the couples treatment was very relaxing and pleasant.
On the downside, my partner got sick on the second day. Even though this is a luxurious resort, you're still in India and have to be very careful with food.

Hard to fault the place itself- we got upgraded to a villa with its own pool directly overlooking the lake- just stunning. The room (villa) itself was ludicrously large for 2 people, with a bathroom each! On the less positive side there isn't too much to do here, do it really is a place to go only if you are looking for complete and utter relaxation. The food (they specialist in a buffet) was good, although the speciality fish restuuarant should be shut down- it was massively unromantic with the loudest air con I ever heard complimented by even louder music to try to cover it up (others also complained), the fish was done Western style rather than the famous Kerelan style, which is meant to be amazing, plus I got food poisoning, so cannot recommend it less!! Service as in all of India was flakey at best - usually about a 15 min wait to get a drink after sitting down even when there is more than one waiter per table seated... Spa was ok, but v expensive for nothing amazing...

Dear Guests,
Comments are always appreciated and we have taken note and corrected the areas that clearly did not meet up with your expectations. There are in fact several half day excursion options to explore the area around the resort highlighting cultural items of interest such as temples and churches in nearby Kottayam as well as a walking tour of the village of Aymanam (God of Small Things book) and various lake and river experiences are also there. The nearby bird sanctuary is also available if your interest takes you in that direction.

My wife and I spent 1 night here during our tour of Kerala. It was BRILLIANT ! Rooms are fantastic - layout , furnishings , position and comfort. Wifi is the best ito speed and access. Breakfasts with wide choice. Do take a sunset cruise on the hotel boat - well worth it. Have a drink at each of the bars, as they are all a unique experience.
