The hotel is picturesquely situated on the shores of the lake Vembanad, next to a bird sancutary and has a charming array of cottages by a lagoon and a wide variety of activities and dining options.

From our entry at the Taj in Kumarakom to check -out we were extremely well taken care of. The attentiveness of the staff to even minute details of our stay was overwhelmingly wonderful!
The cottages by the lagoon are the most beautiful, and if you are willing to splurge, opt for their premium villas with private pool and jacuzzi. The rooms are quiet, clean and plush.

The best part of our stay however was the food. We experienced amazing tastes and cusines prepared with a lot of lve. Menus were selected with thoughtful attention to our personal likings, making dining a very personalised experience. We're both vegetarian, and no where else have we eaten such amazing vegetarian cuisine. Hats off to the chef and restaurant staff.

If there is a paradise for honeymooners, its Taj Vivanta in Kumarakom!

Room Tip: Go for the Supreme Cottages over looking the lagoon. If you want to splurge, the Premium Temptation...

We were quite looking forward to this holiday. Wanted it to be the best.. After all, family holidays done happen that often! Takes so much coordination of schedules.

So when we checked into Taj Vivanta at Kumarakom, we were hoping things go just as we wanted. We checked into the base category room. Bit disappointing... we felt disturbed. Is this the dream holiday we looked forward to and planned so meticulously? I decided to express my disappointment to Manager... And lo! we got a triple upgrade...! we were delighted.

The rooms were spacious and had the ethnic decor close to Kerala traditional homes. The villas were spectacularly scenic. The highlight of the rooms of course was the open air bathrooms. Never felt so close to nature...

The location of the hotel is on the banks of the River Vembanad. It shares its fence with the Kumarakom bird sanctuary... What more do I say...?

The highlights of the stay was the boat ride on the Vembanad lake, chayakadda (awesomest!), the birds on the campus, the fishing, the canoeing, the walks, the serentiy of nature, activities for the children and so much more to do... We never felt the need to go out of the campus.

The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming., Made us feel like a second home!

Special special mention is the food. Chef really puts his best foot forward.

At the end of the three day holiday, we felt it was worth every penny. I would recommend this place and will go back again and again and again....

We had one of the best stay in Taj, true to its tradition and service quality we experienced one of the best stays. We even remember this today inspite of this happening an year back. There were activities done for children and we had good boat rides in the lake. The food was excellent.

Straight after Taj kochi, Taj kumarakom was a little let down.

Rooms - was checked into an old, dingy room with a safe that was not working. We were finally shifted to another room(transit) before being upgraded to the suite. Of course it was beautiful, huge with a mind blowing covered cum open bathroom.

Food : the building hosting bakers house was under renovation, which wasn't really a hassle. For the first meal here we were greeted with messy tables and dirty floor. Which was upsetting. But our concerns were promptly taken care of.
2. The breakfast buffet was not exactly lavish, but enough and tasty.
3. Every evening they had a complimentary boat ride (uncomfortable chairs but clean and not bad), and snacks post that. The snacks were local and great, but the same everyday. Boring.

Activities:
1just walk around, of course the birds' nesting area is best avoided due to the stench. Rest is well kept and beautiful.
2. Kids will love the ducks, fishing, boating, pottery and walk to the birds sanctuary. And of course cruise through the lake.
3. An evening cultural programme is fun and the property decked up in diya lights looks like a dream.

Service: satisfactory

We stayed at Vivanta by Taj from may 30th to june 2nd and it was peaceful. That is all! It tooks us 2 hours and half from the airport to this hotel in a small car driven by a smily yet bad smelling driver. Our first impression by reaching the hotel was that we were cheated. I really cant understand why it is called 5 stars. It requires urgently a renovation! I have been there with my husband and our five years old daughter. There was a leak in our room ceiling, the bed cloths are very old, the towels are bad smelling and old. The area for the meals is very small, the guests were bumping on each other around square tables. The tables outside could not be used as they were totally dirty as the birds, mainly crows, were flying around and pooping everywhere. The lakes are green because the water is dirty and smells very bad. We could see water channels full of rubbish more like sewage channels and it seems perfectly normal to the hotel management. All I can say is that the staff saves this hotel from a complete failure! They work hard day and night! We did not notice them making shifts but working 24 by seven always with smile on their faces and trying their best to makes us happy. I think that was the only reason we did not leave the hotel from the moment we arrived. The rain fell every single day heavily and there were not enough umbrellas. The armchairs at the AC area restaurant smell very bad and look dirty. We will never come back.

I had a hard time finalizing on Taj Kumarakom when most of the reviews and my friends had suggested the other two five stars in the city. Today, I am glad I chose Taj Kumarakom. This was by far the best hotel\resort stay I ever have had in my life so far!

Excellent property and location. Excellent rooms and bathrooms. Great Food - Both Vegetarian and Non vegetarian cuisines. Ample of activities to do. They have daily schedule that will keep you engaged in all the fun and nature activities.

We had a 2 day stay here and we had booked a lake view cottage. Hassle free, quick, polite and very welcoming front desk experience. The Cottage was beautiful. Loved the sugar soaps in the bathroom! If you are a nature lover you will be mesmerized with the property here.

When you are at Taj Kumarakom, you are at home. The staff here does not treat you like guests, they treat you like a family! Soon, before you realize it, you are a part of one big Taj Kumarakom family! Right from the front desk staff to the Manager to the House Keeping Manager to the House Keeping staff - everyone is happy, smiling and eager to help you.

Sharad (if I remember the name) - the house keeping manager, makes sure you get more than what you have paid for! Our 2 day stay at this place was full of surprises. While cycling around in the Resort I was impressed by the Villas on the Lake and stopped to click the picture of the Villa. After a few hours - to my surprise - we were upgraded to the same Villa on the lake that I clicked the picture of! Voila! The Villas here huge and are just amazing! They have an open bathroom and a huge Jacuzzi!

The surprises did not stop - We got a surprise cake, surprise room decoration with flowers and a authentic souvenir gift while checking out!

We ended up getting much more than what we paid for!! Now how many places you get that?

We will definitely return to Taj Kumarakom. You should come here not to stay but to experience Taj Kumarakom hospitality! I bet you will thank me!

On my flight to Cochin on 28th May 2013, I met a student of mine who was traveling with her family to Munnar and then Kumarakom. The conversation that ensued took me down memory lane as she mentioned they were going to stay at Vivanta Kumarakom.

Seems like yesterday, the memories of the stay at Taj Vivanta Kumarakom bring a broad smile to my face. We were simply floored by the beauty of the property. The cottages set in a very village like landscape gave the place a back in time kind of a feel.

The small lake on the property with small rivulets running all around the property with wooden bridges connecting small pathways provide the perfect setting for riding bikes that were available in all shapes and sizes.

The cottages towards the tip of the property that shares the boundary with the Vembannad lake were the most breathtaking, the indoor pool villa was a dream come true, the icing on the cake .......... the jaccuuzzi of course.

It is one place kid loved, the lessons in angling (fishing with a fishing rod) with the opportunity to be declared the world's best angler that too with a certificate is surely something any child would like to flaunt. Then there were lessons in pottery, clay modeling, garland making and yes cooking lessons to held kids learn local receipts.

The boat ride through the village gave us the opportunity to see village life of a different kind, people going to work in boats, children going to school in boats, boats parked outside every house as one would have cars parked outside houses. Houseboats parked along the main offshoot of the lake. Women rowing their personal boats to go to the market. Fishermen collecting mussels from the river bed.

Don't be surprised, the the property has a waterway right up to its reception area from where you can take a boat to go to many places aroun, what is more, you can speak to the people at the reception and get yourself picked or dropped from a per planned location when you check in or check out. The speed boat ride on the lake was an adventure I would love to go for as many times as possible.

The lake on the property would transform into an ornamental view every evening as the women from the neighboring villages came and lit lamps along it's banks. There was an entertainment programme with one traditional art form being performed on a daily basis.

The evening boat ride culminating into the tattukada experience watching the subset was awesome. If you are wondering what the tattukada is, Tattukada is the Kerala tapri/ street side tea stall concept. After the boat ride we were served with tea and a snack as we played games won prizes and watched the sun go down.

Food was good with a decent variety. Staff was ever so eager to help and went out of their way to make our stay worth it. It's been over a year and a half but the memories don't seem to fade.

Room Tip: Cottages with a view of the Vembanad lake are simply awesome.
