“Grand!!”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

If I were to sum up my stay in Taj in one word, it would be "Grand".
Right from when you check in, they make you feel welcome with adequate importance given at each and every step.
They make sure that while pampering, they are not intruding into your lives. I even got a free room upgrade and a special dining arrangement to make it memorable for both of us. A romantic place for couples. Try to be there around Nov-Dec if you are more into birdwatching.
One. Though they can provide more variety specially in lucnh and dinner, in general preparations were good.

A god place to spoil yourseves!! :-)

Room Tip: I think all rooms were good but the ones with private pool could be a good option for honeymooners a...

we had gone for a holiday to Kumarakom, and one evening we all decided to go for dinner at the Taj Vivanta at Kumarakom, being a Taj inner circle gold member and staying in Taj all over the country, we made an advance booking for dinner as we were 4 adults and 4 kids, initially we had to call 4 times to confirm as the phone would put on hold and forgotten..Anyway on reaching the Hotel we were welcomed by the staff saying the restaurant was full...when we visited the restaurant only one couple was seated there and we did mention we have made a reservation.
non courteous staff may be one of their bad days not at all cooperative even to change a chair they were to be repeatedly told.
the nightmare was when we ordered few drinks the same being confirmed by the waiter and than after 10 minutes someone else would come and say it is not available.
premium drinks like Black label scotch and Chivas Regal were not available in a Taj property,
I hope that the management would improve their services

Dear Guest,

We are sorry that we could not accomodate you upon your visit to our resort.
We have only one restaurant which is just sufficient to seat our resident guests whenever we do a full house.
However we do welcome non-resident guests whenever the situation allows us.Please do accept this as a one such scenario
We do hope you will come back to stay with us wherein we could leave you with a mesmerising experience

Thanks and regards

We had the absolute privelage of staying at vivanta by Taj,Kumarakom for a couple of nights and will never forget what a wonderfull experience it was. We arrived about 5 hours before official check in time and were immediately given the use of a heritage lagoon view room [ which we had booked] so we could freshen up while our room was being prepared. After a breif wait we were taken to our room, to find we had been upgraded to a Temptation Villa with a private pool. The Villa was comfortable and sumptious beyond words.Throughout our stay all the staff, including the gardeners ,ladies sweeping the paths etc were so friendly and courteous and helped make our stay even more special. We cannot thank and praise everyone at Vivanta by Taj highly enough.
In our future travels we will find ourselves judging others against Vivanta by Taj at Kumarakom. This was simply our best hotel experience ever.

As per trip-advisor rating and reviews, I finally shortlisted Vivanta for our 2-day stay at Kumarakom for our anniversary trip. We have been received by Ms.Delin at the reception. Check-in formalities were simple and quickest. Then, Delin showed us our Deluxe Villa, Sun Bird. The room interior and facilities were amazing, especially the open-air bathroom. After check-in immediately had a shower in open-to-sky shower and the experience is really enjoyable. Then, evening went on boat ride on Vembanand lake.Mr.Ravindran made us knowledgeable about the great Vembanand. Though, we had just returned from a Premium Houseboat stay at Alleppy at Lakes and Lagoons, this boat ride is truly joyful and simply NOT to miss. After that, we had been served with Hot Chaay and snacks at Jetty. Ravindran and his team, including Rajan engaged my kid through activities like fish catch, pottery and painting.

Next day we checked-in to Premium Temptation Villa, which is simply SUPERB!!! We enjoyed the swimming pool and Open-air bathroom. My wife learnt swimming at swimming pool and got the confidence. Kudo to Vivanta!!! The diyas lighting at the lagoon at dawn added a crown to Vivanta beauty. Really a stunning beauty!!! Though we missed this on first-day, we were lucky on second day. Thanks to rain god. Also, they arranged a special dinner, which was a surprise. Ms. Delin at reception and Mr.Bibin and his team, at restaurant made us FEEL at Home with a smile.
We had visitors for whom I ordered Tea and Coffee, which they made complimentary. This proved Taj Hospitality, which you dont get elsewhere. While check-out every member at the reception (including Ms Nitya and Manager, sorry as I couldnt remember some of the names) send-off us. They gifted my kid with special gift. My kid didnt forget to collect her pottery preparations. Thanks to one and all. Really Vivanta Kumarakom is gem of Kumarakom and is Number 1 Resort.

Room Tip: Premium Temptation Villa with Vembanand Lake View from bedroom

Absolutely loved Vivanta by Taj,Kumarakom! Came for a one day stay at Kumarakom and after many a thought bout whether to book in Kumarakom Lake Resort(where I have stayed previously) or here, made a choice to stay here because Taj has never let us down in their hospitality, and KLR,while pretty good for five star hospitality, wasn't as good as the personal Taj touch. And the decision was the best I ve made about hotels!
This review is mostly about the Taj and I will be comparing it with the Kumarakom Lake Resort because I would like to help anyone who's confused about where to stay in Kumarakom.
Booking was hassle free at the Taj, and all i had to do was to call their central reservations, where the person at the call centre was very courteous and had good knowledge of the resort. We made a booking in the base category Luxury Pavillion Resort, and when he asked me if i wanted some special needs, i asked him for an early check in for which he easily obliged and also for a room facing the lake, which was when he suggested there were villas near the Vembanad lake which was costlier, but Luxury Pavillion faced a lagoon,so it would be good too.and i was not ina mood to splurge and booked the base category.

CHECK IN:
right from the moment we drove into the property,we were treated like royalty. Ppl rushed to get our bags(at KLR,we had to carry it from the car park to reception, and hence the mention) and we were garlanded and given a comfy sofa and tender coconut water. It was a breeze and then came the first surprise. We were upgraded, not one but four times to the highest possible Temptation Villa with private pool! The staff were very welcoming and soon took us on a rather long walk to our villa(a electric vehicle is available for those not wanting to walk).

ROOMS:
The base Luxury Pavillion is a set of cottages facing a huge lagoon just in front of the reception area and the restaurant. The rooms are on the bank opposit to the reception and it is quite a big lagoon with boating and fishing possible. These rooms ve private sit outs facing the lagoon too.
The next category is the heritage rooms, in the same buildidn as the reception. The buildin itself is years old and hence the Heritage tag i guess. The next category are private villas with open air bathrooms and the highest was ours, the villa with the private pool. The private pool is quite big, some 10m in length, and unlike the small plunge pools in similiar rooms at KLR. It also had a jacuzzi and a cosy bed outside where you could lie down, complete with fan. There were our own sitouts facin a small lake on the other side and open air bathrooms were unique. The comode was kind of private despite the open air bathroom, and it was a nice touch, compared to the KLR which had real open air comods(not very comfortable, open air bathing is fine, but a loo in the open is not). The room had a huge LCD tv with a DVD played and surround sound, and of course all the usual mini bat,tea coffe and stuff. The villa had four poster bed and it was full of heritage rich paintings, sculptures and murals and it was all very cosy. The only neagtive i could find was the fittings in the bathroom, which showed their age and didnt look very neat( the handles and taps, not the floors, basins and comodes).KLR had neat fittings, perhaps because it was newer.

SUNSET CRUISE is free and should not be missed along with the free evening snacks at the "chayakada" after the boating with local dishes(average) and coffee(great). Didn't try the same in KLRAnd hence can't comment about it,bu they too had a free sunset cruise and tea afterwards.

ACTIVITIES were plenty but the outstandin ones were the paddle boats and row boats you could take out on your own in the lagoon(not the lake!) and the fishing in the lagoon. We also took the speed boat ride-there re two options: speed experience for half an hour or village experience for some extedpnded time. We took the speed experience and was taken on a min blowing ride through the lake. Didn't try the village visits, but that you can do with slower country boats.
then there is pottry making( with a ceritficate at the and of the session proclaiming you re the worlds best) and weaving sessions besides turkeys and rabbits whom you can feed and play with.
there s the housebot ride too,and though we didn't try the Taj boats,we ve gone on houseboats and its a awesome experience, ideal to soak in the beauty of god's own country. But it can get boring soon too,so I wouldn't recommend rides more than six hours.

DINING:
had dinner from the restaurant and it was an experience we ll never forget. They had set up a room specially for us complete with flowers, cnadle light and to top it all,a complimentary cake! It was sucks wonderful moment, and the Taj hospitality left us spell bound. Thank you very much for that, everyone there!

BAR: was confused on a cocktail to order and the bar tender was happy to help suggestin he would do a special preparation and it was great!

Overall the food was above average, not mind blowing. And breakfast had a great coffee(again) but not a a great spread. The breakfast spread at KLR is one of the largest I have seen, and I was hopin the Taj would match it,but they didnt( I am a huge breakfst fan). But can't complaimn because once again Taj showed great hospitality and charged us only for a single breakfast.

check out was easy, and precise. No confusions,no making you wait till they ve checked the mini bar, and a gift to say goodbye.

The stay was full of little surprises. And we felt royal! The staff re the best I ve seen in any of the Taj hotels, and every single Taj hotel would come above any other hotel! Thank you Mr.Aaron,Ms.Nithya,Mr.Ravindran, the person who rode the speed boat(sorry I forgot your name, but the ride,I ll never) and every single person at Vivanta for the beautiful stay, the great villa, the great cake and the ever present smile! Next time we ll come back for a longer period!

this is paradise,squared.

We stayed at this property for our first wedding anniversary. We were thrilled to know that it is a 140 year old bungalow converted to a restaurant and the hotel reception. Its called Baker's bungalow.

We were received by Delin Sherry at the reception & this is my first experience at a hotel that they judged by the number of incoming people & their time of arrival as to who we were. Our room was ready and after a couple of policy & rules related formality, which took less than 5 minutes, Delin was more than happy to take the long walk to the luxury villa. That was the first WOW point for me. She happily told us that we had been upgraded to the luxury villa from the heritage room that we had booked.

They arranged coffee & snacks by the lake side wherein there were seats put up to watch the sunset. Very well planned and a perfect setting for a romantic evening.

The dinner on the same day had a beautiful theme with us being put in the fireplace room of the 140 year old Baker's bungalow. A table with red rose petals splattered on the table top, excellent food suggestions by Mr. Suresh, followed by a very interactive dinner served by him & his team made our day. The dinner ended at a sweet note with a pretty cake being served to us. It was later sent to our room even before we made it back. Bibin from the F & B team deserves another special mention here. He has been around to ensure that everything goes right.

We were on the Taj backwaters houseboat & the people, with whom the hotel has tied up with are equally committed to keeping the service levels right up there. We had the best 4 hours & some delicious food.

Our dinner, on the second day was outstanding. Everything from the taste to the humility & the smiles around us has been a treat. The F & B in-charge, Mr. Prince took extra care that we were taken care of in the best possible manner & he was able to do it very well. Another mention for Mr. Murugan from Housekeeping - not only does a great job at setting up of our room but also at decorations that he put up in our room. A very pleasant surprise.

The rooms were spacious. There was a typical Kerala style bath in the open but well concealed. There was a beautiful artificial lake right outside our villa and its like being in the cradle of nature when you are this resort.

Vivanta by Taj at Kumarakom has hit the bull's eye when it comes to service. The property is anyway extremely beautiful. The staff has wow'ed me!

Room Tip: The luxury villas are the best. A personal small artificial lake, fountains & beautiful architec...

It is very easy to build an infrastructure, build a menu, and provide all kinds of "amenities" in the living quarters. But, it is welcomes like the one Ms. Nitya gave us, the excellent hospitality extended by Mr. Suresh, Mr. Anand and Mr. Sandeep, the personal attention extended by the head chef (my apologies for not remembering his name correctly), not to forget the lovely food that we can't praise enough, the enthusiasm shown by Mr. Ravindran in making us all feel at home, and involved, like a great host, and all the other members of the team who made sure that we had a wonderful vacation by being there whenever we needed anything at all but always discrete, it's things like these that can not be emulated easily.

I commend you and your team for making it such a memorable stay for us, and we definitely intend to come back again!
