We had a wonderful stay here for 2 nights. The resort feels large enough to wander around and very safe. The beds were so comfortable and the outdoor bathroom was a wonderful twist. Every detail has been thought through and is always perfect. Staff are extremely helpful. There is so much to do (no extra fees either) such as fishing, boat rides, pottery and weaving. The pools are wonderful. I highly recommend this place!

If you are visiting kumarakom, nothing better than staying here. It's ultimate luxury. The rooms are well done maintaining a fine balance between traditional Kerala architecture and modernity. If not the meandering pool villas, take the villas with the private pool. The resort provides a complementary boat ride around the vembanad lake. On the boat ride they have a gentleman who plays live flute, plus the sunset, makes this an amazing experience. The spread on the buffet is too good n if u love seafood, you'll flip. Although I went there in Jan 2012, I'm raring to go again.

What can I say ? Team Kumarakom have got everything right, we spent 3 very memorable days here in the last week of January. The feeling one gets from the moment one steps into the resort is 'We Care'. The personalised attention given to each guest is something that needs to be seen to be believed.
Food quality is very good, there is daily entertainment in the evenings, a sunset cruise and an excellent spa.
Staff is extremely courteous and friendly, and willing to walk the extra mile for you.
All said and done a resort we will definitely be back in sooner than later.

My husband and I took a 4 day trip to Kumarakom, recently.... on our 6th wedding anniv. We were amazed by the stunning beauty of this place, with its amazing architecture. The property seems very simple, with none of the typical 5 star opulence... It felt simple and yet special. My highlights of this 4 day trip where we simply enjoyed the hospitality and the waters..... was (a) The lovely meandering pool in front of our Villa (b) The open bath area, it reminded me of my ancestral home at Trichy...(c) Our lovely tea man...who served us amazing coffee and tea both in the morning and evening at 4 ish. He knew i liked Chai and my husband loved a good filter coffee and we never placed our order, he knew it as soon as we had told him the first time. The place has been built from individual pieces from various heritage pieces all across the city. The food was great, the sunset cruise with the musical accompaniments special, the service impeccable, and the ayurvedic massage impeccable. The place was always packed, which does speak volumes of its popularity. I will go to this place and next time maybe stay in the Presidential Villa. Must do for every one who wants to visit Kerela.

Room Tip: I think the meandering pool villa facing the lake are the best. One can also choose the Heritage Vil...

Now this resort is a class act (5++) and is not to be missed, thanks to Benny and Musafir tours for the recommendation. It is a wonderful resort in a very quiet location, ideal for just letting the world go by. We had a Pool Villa; highly recommended, with direct access via French doors to the ¼ mile river style pool. In fact during our stay in February most of the time we had the entire pool to ourselves. The water was very clean and warm, an absolute delight. The complex does have another standard pool overlooking the lake, but we did not take advantage of that.
The room itself is well appointed with a large comfortable King size bed, The bathroom has a large very private outside shower with plenty of hot water. For those travelling for some time these rooms also have in the bathroom a retractable washing/ drying line. The aircon is efficient and quiet. Of note is that in our room the sockets were of a travel adapter type built in that allowed for the use of just about every kind of plug (UK 3 pin included). The room also had a small fridge.
Food and service here are excellent with the choice of a buffet menu restaurant approx 1800 rupees/ person or an a la carte Seafood restaurant. We used the latter despite being vegetarians and found that our needs were easily catered for and the price was no more than if we had the buffet service. Wine is expensive about 2100 rupees.
A complimentary sunset cruise is offered and is well worth doing, complimentary afternoon tea and nibbles is served on the lawn.
For the insane there is a gymnasium, and a free to learn and try local weaving and pottery during the day. A small gratuity is well received (100 rupees or so).
From the hotel you can turn right or left for a walk, these take you into or through the local village, it is safe, very friendly and educational. The kids are amazing and love to interact with those who venture outside, the parents also encourage this contact. Rather than offer money take some sweets or pencils.
We used the hotel via Musafir tours (excellent) for our backwater trip, overnight to Allepey (leave approx midday return 9 a.m. and then return to the hotel it was a superb boat and service, the staff are very friendly and will happily answer any of your questions. We had a 2 couple boat to ourselves as part of our package with Musafir tours. Photography from the boat was excellent, kingfishers everywhere, as well as a lot of exotic species. if you ask the pilot/driver/ to stop at a local village then the experience of the cruise is enhanced. The 2 day excursion takes you further into the backwaters and sounds very interesting.
Our boat room had a very large double bed and good shower, water maybe a little cooler than expected. A plug in mosquito dispenser is provided and is advisable to run as when the sun goes down the insects come out. So get inside the glass screens of the boat and enjoy. Drinks on the boat are a little more expensive than the complex so take your own. Tipping on the boat is separate from the complex, but is divided amongst the crew, about a 1000 rupees for the night seemed to be OK. Free Wifi is available in the room. We did 3 night including the house boat and probably could have enjoyed another 1-2 nights.

Room Tip: Go for a Pool Villa and just walk into the river style pool from your room, then sit on the veranda...

Reception was and informative, although the young lady was alittle hard to follow, very surprised to find they charged for wi.fi connection.
Upgraded to a private villa with its own pool, adjacent to the infinity pool which was excellent. We found the whole resort beautifully laid out and very relaxing.
Breakfast buffet was the best we had on this trip, and the evening meal in the fish restaurant was superb. However the meal we had in the main restaurant was cold, as the staff seemed more interested in watching the enter tainment.
I think probably 3 days would be enough here as there is not much to see outside the resort.
