“Elegant and luxurious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2012

We stayed here one night before boarding our houseboat on the bank of the resort. The resort is beautifully run, with a welcome coconut drink and cool towel while you check in. Rooms are well appointed and luxurious but the best for me was the swimming pool which winds through part of the resort and which one enters directly from the room. The Ayurvedic spa massage was exhilarating. The buffet dinner and breakfast were extraordinary---an enormous array of both Indian and international foods to choose from. I wish my stay had been longer --- will definitely go back to Kerala.

this place has everything- great view, good food, you can get into a boat and head into the sea, you can take a cycle out, you can walk, swim and most of all enjoy the green. its maintained very well and at times they play some live instrumental music over dinner which is local and goes very well with the whole ambience. there is a small store that even sells good stuff. if you're in this part of the country then this is easily a very good option.

Room Tip: all rooms have direct access to the pool but the nicer ones are the cottages that are out towards th...

The hotel is part of the slh group, that is the small luxury hotels, by far one of the most beautiful hotels I have visited, the landscaping of the hotel, the beautiful kerala architecture, the ponds and water bodies created , it transfers you to the old keralan style of living, whether you are having a kapi ( coffee) at thottukeda prepared by Anna with Kerala street food , or taking a boat ride on one of the Kerala style boats, dining on some awesome Kerala rice and chicken curry with soothing music in the background, having the best idli with 5 different varieties of sambhar , making Kerala pots or chattais, going on the houseboat, going through the amazing nosof old artefacts they have in the curio shop, the pleasure of doing nothing, just nature for company, the cottage we took was with the pool, and we were blown away with the use of technology but with amalgamation of the old culture and traditions, it was peaceful living leaving back all your troubles in the old way of life, the spread of food, breakfast was awesome, their ala carte menu, in the sea bar is too good, the rooms are awesome, the swimming pool refreshing, the staff is very polite and courteous , they take in consideration your every need and make this stay a never forgettable experience, don't miss to rejuvenate yourself at their spa ,,, and the water sports too are adventurous but safe. All in all , I am going back for more, loved this hotel.pictures don't do justice to its beauty, you have to experience this heaven to really believe .

Room Tip: The cottages with the pool are awesome

After my mother and I came from the Vivanta Taj in Kovalam, Kumarakom Lake Resort was a slight letdown for being in the same class of five-star properties. However, the management was quick to apologize and fix anything brought to their attention, which is why I raised the rating by a point. Issues faced and how they were resolved:
- Housekeeping: There were dead insects in the room which were not cleaned after two rounds of housekeeping. After I pointed these out, the room was thoroughly cleaned and the staff left behind a towel elephant as an apology, along with spa credits.
- Food/Restaurant Service: The first day we dined, we did not receive service for some time after being seated, and then we were ignored for nearly 30 minutes before our food arrived, not being offered water, papad/bread, etc. Similar service occurred in the evening for dinner. After I pointed these out to the duty managers Arun and Sanjay, they were quick to apologize and offer significantly better service for the following dinner. The F&B manager, Johney, was extremely helpful during dinner, offering prompt service. However, during breakfast the next morning, the place was understaffed and we were not offered water or coffee until we were nearly done with our meal. Early breakfast can definitely use more staff, especially for the check-out crowd.

On the positive side, the property is stunning. The musical sunset cruise is a must-do, the nightly entertainment options are perfect, the Ayurveda spa was my mom’s favorite, the gym has everything you need (but temperature control is an issue), and the other amenities make the property a perfect mix of luxury and culture.

In conclusion, stay here for the amenities, but be prepared to ask for what you want, specifically with housekeeping and the restaurant. Don’t be afraid to tell the staff about any issues because they will go above and beyond to fix them. Hopefully the staff can be more proactive rather than reactive.

Room Tip: The meandering pool villas are nice.

Right when u enter the resort, u will feel that this is the right place to stay. The reception area is beautiful and you are greeted by the warmth of the staff. Rooms are expecably clean and beautiful. The concept of partly open bathrooms was something I saw for the first time. Special mention for the housekeeping staff for the swans, elephant and hearts with roses and towels. That was wonderful. Food spread was lavish, tasty and perfect blend of south and north indian dishes. Even our lunch at Taj Vivanta could not match KLR's food. The complimentary evening boat ride with live music to see the sunset was absloutely amazing. One thing which needs improvement is room service which i will rate as average. Whether its food or toileteries, they take a lot of time to deliver.

I would definately like to come back and take that moonlight cruise dinner which i missed this time.

Room Tip: Pool Villas are excellent

A great place to stay. Loved the part-roofed bathroom and its shower. Also really liked the idea of walking out of the french windows to find a shaded seating area with a few steps down to a three-foot deep serpentine pool threading round the back of the villas. Lots of things to do if you are feeling active and lovely grounds if you not. Only complaint is the amount of time for a la carte food to arrive - if the other person is having the buffet, they have probably finished and just fidget till the a la carte arrives!

Room Tip: A pool villa has a lot to offer - either sitting and reading while others swim past or making a swim...

This is one of the few places I loved and woudl love t be back - God willing. THe ambience is just amazing. Nestled in the small backwater village of Kumarakom near Kottayam, this property i is just amazing. It is a heritage property with the rooms

We had the CP package with Meandering pool villa and breakfast included. The breakfast is a real feast with lots of selecting from Sounth Indian and continental food. The guy making the filter coffee is really talented and it is worth watching him pour coffee into the pot from a couple of feet :).

They have a beautiful infinity pool. And some more unique features of the resort were the complimentary evening Sunset ride with live traditional music in the background. Also the complimentary evening tea/coffee with Kerala Street food snacks. These activities fostered a lot of interaction in the guests. We met a lot f wonderfule people during these activities.

My favourite part was the pottery classes (complimenatry) where I did spend a lot of time.

The property is very tastefully decorated with traditional Kerala handicrafts etc.

The shower in the rooms is beautiful. It overlooks a small garden and is under the blue skies.

The meandering pool is an amazing concept where every villa has a pool afjacent to the room except that the pool is shared by multiple rooms and is like a huge river :).

The morning yoga was lovely with a caring instructor.
I can go on for ever....

We did a minor problem in the bill where another families dinner was billed to me but the mistake was quickly rectified....

Be prepared to meet people from every continent here :). We spent 3 amazing days here and surely will be back (no more Goa ;) )

Room Tip: chose the meanderin pool villa
