“What an amazing hotel!”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

Firstly, the hotel's website, does not do this place justice. They totally undersell how great this place is. It's a sprawling property about 2-3 hours away from Cochin (main airport). The rooms are all 'villas' and have the best amenities. The highlight - private pools in the backyard of the rooms. Open air toilets were a great new experience for us (take a little getting used to, though). There is greenery all around and the lake adjacent to the resort. The infinity pool overlooking the lake is a great place to relax. The spa is top-notch and they have a wide variety of treatments.
The only disappointment was the food. Not that there was anything drastically wrong with it, but everything tends to taste the same. But this could be because we only ate the buffet meals and didn't try the specialty seafood restaurants.
All in all its a great place to stay and not very expensive for what you are getting. Would love to go back here for a longer stay.

We stayed for one night on the houseboat and two nights in the Heritage Lake View Villa with private pool. The transfer from the airport took about two hours but the drive was very scenic and nice. We were greeted warmly by reception with a coconut and immediately went to the houseboat. The houseboat was a great experience. The backwaters were beautiful but we did not get to see quite as much as we hoped because the law is all the houseboats have to be docked from 6PM to 8AM, giving us only 3 hours in total moving on the boat. The staff on the boat were great, not doting on you but taking care of your needs. The food was good.

Once back at the resort on land, we were brought to our heritage villa. The villa itself was clean and nice but we did not have any sort of "lake view." From the front porch, you could only see the back of the pool chairs and a swampy stream next door. The private pool was filled with leaves and did not appear clean. There is absolutely no place you can sit around your own private pool, the space will not allow for a chair. We went to the reception immediately and management refused to change us out of our room to the meandering pool villa claiming it was "fully booked." We did not see even one single person in the meandering pool the remainder of our 2 day stay and we truly wonder if it was the case that the place was fully booked. We called reception a total of 4 times before having someone clean our pool. The idea of having a fully outdoor open bathroom and shower is fine as long as you only use the bathroom and shower during the day. We were brushing our teeth in the pitch black outside to avoid the mosquitos.

We took use of the main pool for sunbathing and waited so long to be brought a beach towel that we decided to walk back to the room to get our towels. We ordered lunch at the pool, they brought us napkins after our meal was finished, and our cold beverage did not arrive until 5 minutes after we were done eating.

The included breakfast was just ok. The chef prepared us meals in our friends private villa and this was the best part of our day. The food was terrific and the staff attentive and great.

There was some sort of mix up with our reservation. We did not get the honeymoon package but the spa staff told us we still had a complimentary massage, then realized we didn't. They called our room and said we had a candlelit dinner, then realized we didn't after I insisted they check into it . We told reception about these things and the manager called to the room and was not very polite making us feel like we were trying to get these items for free when really we were reporting that we didn't want them, or to be charged for them.

All in all, for the price of Kumarakom, service just should have been better.

Room Tip: I wouldn't spend the extra money for the Heritage Lake View Villa. There is no view of the lake...

Hey will give you the good points first
1 great location
2 very traditional,
3 decent in room dining
4 guy who makes coffee at tea stall is really good
Bad points
1 food super expensive
2 only traditional cuisine avg, rest below par
3 intention is to charge for everything , unlike other resorts where certain goodwill gestures r made
4 on the first night they had rented the place for conference and there was loud music playing till late hours, well you don't charge for tradition , relax , calm etc and allow these things to go on.
5 language skill poor , but r courteous,
6 buffet very limited and not to the standard expected for this kind of resort.
7 meandering pool villa very small, in size
8 pool water dirty , had to request 3 out of for days to clean it , as it was loaded with dead insect,
9 after 6 pm resort is virtually dead , there r some traditional program's but basic.

I have been to many resorts and had great expectations from this one , but I have overpaid for this experience.
Kerela is beautiful , next time I would like to stay somewhere else

Meandering pool villa was a great experience and the house boat is a must.
The staff were very friendly and attentive and the facilities were very good.
The food, although expensive was also very good.

Room Tip: Meandering pool villas are a great choice.

We only stayed one night whilst touring Kerala and this resort was amazing. Loved having our own pool and out side shower room. Restaurants superb and great views. Service is top notch. the hotel's large infinity pool is worth using with plenty of sun loungers, an attendant brings you a towel as soon as you appear. If only we could have stayed longer, loved it.

Excellent place to spend the vacation. Only dampner was the food on Day1... I would definately recommend this place to my friends. The rooms are excellent, go for a duplex meandering pool vila. This room provides a good view and privacy too. It would have been nice if they could include a bath tub in the bathroom.

This was one of the best experiences for us. The location of the resort is excellent. Every room either is next to pool or has a small pool attached to it. We stayed with the one with swimming pool attached to it. It had a jacuzzi too. The food is excellent. The buffets have plenty of options for persons of different tastes.

Go there if you can afford it!
