Disappointing. We stayed one night in Dec 2013.
The women working the reception area offered excellent service, but the others were only mediocre.
The WIFI is only available at the reception desk and the strength is only moderate. Our room was a nice bungalow. Very homey and pleasant.
The grounds are wonderfully manicured. The setting is superb.
The food was very pricey and the restaurant staff were mostly clueless and amateur.
We scheduled a 2 hour motorized canoe tour which was excellent. Our naturalist, Manoj, was excellent. One of the best nature guides we've ever had anywhere.
We also scheduled a 1 hour birdwatching walk with a different guide which was equally good. The naturalists are exceptional.

It's difficult to know where to begin really. The trip from the landing by either The Darter or The Egret along the river and into the reception of Coconut Lagoon is a wonderful starter. Saw huge fruit bats, Brahmany Kites and kingfishers on this ten minute or so journey. Warm welcome at reception.
Stayed in a tradional heritage unit located overlooking the river and the national wildlife park just on the other side. So from the seats on our small terrace we were transfixed most days with all the wildlife on view and with the lake boats, working canoes and other small water going vessels passing by.
Comfortable enough heritage cottage and outside shower and toilet area.
Food was excellent, service was terrific and there was always a good choice. Lunch was great value because of the currently good exchange rate from the British Pound to the Indian Rupee.
The hotel has an excellent senior naturalist and other staff with good quality knowledge.
Huge monitor lizards in the gardens, black pond turtles in the pools, a butterfly garden and a huge variety of other bird life just everywhere you look.
It has a brilliant ayurvedic spa with quality advice and masseurs.
Spent 8 nights in total there in early November and would highly recommend Coconut Lagoon to anyone. Must take a day's lake trip on Lake Vembanad in a rice boat.
Will return, definitely.

Calm and peaceful place, just what you want for your honeymoon. Lovely staff at the restaurant who always welcome you with a smile. Good food combined with special effort made by the chef to prepare and serve us a local kerala vegetarian delicacy. Flip side to all this was some disappointment in the villa. We had lots of red ants that became a spoiler. But yes loved the hospitality and the service by the staff at the restaurant (specific mention of Mr. Febin)
Some advice: please carry mosquito and insect repellent this could be a handy help.

We had a wonderful and relaxing four night stay toward the end of our holiday in South India. We had spent the previous night on a house boat (also a CGH service and also wonderful) and so we arrived at the jetty in a very relaxed and happy state. It was lovely to be serenaded by flute as we arrived in reception and this set the tone for our stay. Then Shirwin, the front office manager, welcomed us and gave us all the information we needed to get the most out of our holiday. I wish I could remember all the staff names - there were so many that made a positive impression on us and would love to thank them all. The service and food were first class - even had a cookery demonstration, which was brilliant. We both had Ayurvedic massages and these were superb too. We thoroughly enjoyed the bird watching with the resident naturalist Manoj, who is so knowledgable, and spotted over twenty different species. A key point about CGH hotel group is their commitment to environmental issues and this is to be encouraged and applauded. Loved the re-used newspapers as envelopes, bags etc. All in all a fantastic place which we would not hesitate to recommend.

We arrived at Coconut Lagoon following a 4 hour car journey from Thekkady. You arrive at the resort following a short, but tranquil journey along the backwaters and greeted with coconut water to the melancholy sound of an Indian flute.

Everything about our stay was incredible, from our cottage overlooking the waters, the outside bathroom, the Ayurvedic treatments, amazing chicken biriyani, and surprise birthday cake at breakfast.

We can't thank the staff enough for making this a truly amazing stay

Good hotels and Very Good hotels have a subtle difference - very good hotels may have similar amenities but they know how to not get in your way still let you do what you want to do. Spent better part of a week here with family and friends and it was awesome experience. Food, stay have been covered by others and it is excellent. Best part is the staff, their attention to small details and availability of the entire lagoon. We were there to generally unwind and we did just that and the hotel was a catalyst just as it was expected to be.

The Ayurveda, bird watching were just minor support events that went on but were not the focus however had some decent sightings.

Highly recommended !

While some visitors to Coconut Lagoon in Kerala will thoroughly enjoy the laid-back nature and rustic appeal of this resort, others used to more upmarket places may find it wanting. The resort is now 20 years old and a redesign of its grounds would enormously improve the overall appearance and the experience of staying here. As it is, the flat areas of lawn are crisscrossed with narrow canals of muddy water, sometimes with floating rubbish carried in on the tide from nearby villages. Reducing the number of canals, rebuilding the bridges in one elegant style, replacing all the paving and lighting, and interspersing the stand-alone bungalows with garden beds mass-planted with tropical perennials and shrubs would really lift the place. As it is, while the villa rooms are fine (and it's lovely to see that these old heritage buildings have been restored and given new life here), the grounds of the resort, including the netted off area in front of the restaurant and all the homely painted signage, let the place down. Perhaps the Indian company who owns the resort should look to resorts in Bali or Thailand for inspiration on landscape design and subtle night lighting.

Room Tip: The lowest style room is a standalone villa - a restored timber one-room bungalow, with an outdoor b...
