“One of the best hotels on our trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

The hotel setting is beautiful. You go to it via a short boat ride and the approach to the reception area is wonderful. The staff were very welcoming and you are given a cool towel and delicious drink. Our room was an individual villa overlooking a lawn. It was excellent but I had a few reservations with the bathroom! This is in a walled area outside. I don't mind an outside shower but am not so sure about an outside loo!
The whole of the grounds are very pretty and tranquil and you can sit by the lake in complete peace.
The dining room is attractive and the food very good with plenty of choice.
If you are not going on a houseboat it is worth booking a motorised canoe via the hotel for two hours on the backwaters.
Definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: All good but I'd probably pay the extra for a room with plunge pool in future.

After much research and negotiations with our travel agent, we selected this place. There were 10 of us including my 22 month old son. We had combined this visit along with another function at Kochi.

The excitement began when the vehicle dropped us of at the small private pier. The pier was nice and you got a good view of the traffic on the waterway. Waiting for the small boat to take us to the resort, the expectations increased. Chugging along the waterway, with houseboats on both sides was a very good experience. We entered the resort and were greeted by a lot of smiling faces and some wonderful music.

We got some good rooms (Bungalows and Mansions) and upgraded to the Pool villa which has a private pool. My son enjoyed the pool the most.

All the rooms were comfortable. The open lawns and walkways were maintained immaculately. Ideal place to just laze around. The flora and fauna was very nice and we saw mutliple varities of trees and butterflies. There were also a lot of birds and the bird watching trip is worth taking.

The spa was also good and the ayurvedic massages were enjoyed by all.

What was outstanding was the natural beauty and the genuine warmth of the staff who were there to assist at all times. The place is ideal for just lazing around and relaxing.

It was a good experience.

Room Tip: The Pool villas are the best. Seniors should avoid the Heritage mansions as the steps are steep. Try...

After our two nights on the houseboat (amazing), we were dropped off at the resort hotel for a three night stay. Its a group of cottages and houses around a central water way - its very pretty. They have rare vechur cows grazing on the lush grounds of the hotel which is also very idyllic. The staff were lovely, food was great (but expensive) and there were plenty of options. The pool is lovely and was never busy when we visited. The hotel provides free evening boat trips to the lake to see the amazing sunsets and there are morning and evening yoga sessions which we found to be great fun. Its a lovely hotel with great staff. Our room (201) was the absolute highlight - we think it must be the best room in the place (a two storey room, sitting room downstairs and bedroom upstairs, bathroom outside) - right next to the water's edge with amazing views of the lake.

Room Tip: room 201 has panoramic views of the lake and the sunset.

We arrived shortly before Christmas and were piped ashore with Jingle Bells played on a flute! We were welcomed with a refreshing coconut drink and as we arrived too early to check in we were also given complimentary coffees. Our room was delightful, large enough to accommodate us three adults. The staff were outstanding, nothing was too much trouble and everyone was helpful, polite and friendly. Three eco-friendly Christmas trees had been assembled by the staff and guests we able to vote for their favourite one. A lovely idea,

The pool was splendid and allowed us to be "busy doing nothing" - which was the whole idea behind our stay. We were disappointed in the choice of the A La Carte menu but realise most people would want the buffet. The wonderful restaurant staff made up for any shortcomings in the menu though, as did the refreshing gin and tonics.

We loved the little cows that grazed around the gardens and would recommend the morning bird watching walk which was led by a very knowledgable and delightful member of staff. We also loved the remoteness of the place and particularly the boat journey over the lake to get there.

Writing this review after a long time since my fabulous kerala tour, the memories of which still remain .!The coconut lagoon resort( our 3rd stop in a long kerala tour) in kumarakom is a decent resort that has maintained its old world rustic charm in almost all the aspects of the resort. This resort is certainly perfect for a laidback vacation. Antilog Vacations justified the cheap rates ( & fab services) for the complete Kerala package they gave us & staff ws a delight

From the moment I entered this place I was surprised to see such a nice atmosphere. Their staff greeted with such warmth that I felt really good. Their welcome drink was also fabulous. Their reception staff was really fast and I was allotted my room within 10 minutes only. The fast and apt service here is one of its features.
the staff here was decent. The staff, the rooms, the restaurant and all other amenities are all worth experiencing but the lack of many activities make this place not such a good staying option compared to may be Taj
The location of this resort is good but is not very easily accessible. This resort is also located away from the hustle bustle of the city and is secludedly located. There is not much to do here except for some boat rides, few massage facilities in the resort, spa treatment or decent dining. food served is also good but travelling so far to stay at such a place is something I didn’t like particularly
The rooms here are good too. They have all modern amenities and a nice old world charm. They are pretty cozy and it is pleasurable to stay in them.
The restaurant also has a good variety of dishes that it serves and the feature of in room dining is also good. Lack of variety of entertainment facilities make this place a little boring say

Room Tip: nt sure on dis bt it won make a difference

First rate hotel, lovely rooms and pool and great vista over lake. You know you are in good hands. Expensive though – food at western prices. I would not want to stay more than a few days as the hotel feels quite cut off from everywhere - no beachfront and only place to lounge is by the pool

We stayed at Coconut Lagoon for one night on our honeymoon--checked in on December 25th and left the next day. We stayed in a Heritage Bungalow. The room itself was beautiful--high ceilings, privacy, outdoor shower. Our bungalow was pretty secluded in a corner and we had a fantastic view of the backwaters and our very own hammock. It was really quite nice.

I think our room rate was $350 or so. At that price, I should be in a five-star resort. The grounds of Coconut Lagoon are pretty awful. They call it an eco-resort, but whatever it is, if I'm spending that much money, I might as well stay at the Taj next door. At best, this place is what I call "India-nice" or "developing-country-nice". But, $350/night is not a developing country price!

The staff was extremely nice but so incredibly incompetent. This was sorely disappointing. You'd ask them a question and they would be so kind and smile and then they'd never get back to you. This happened so many times, that it just became a joke between me and my husband. We pretty much got used to asking for something at least three times and always were pleasantly surprised when someone would follow through. Again, they were super nice, but just very forgetful.

My husband and I both got ayurvedic massages. This was quite an experience. If you've never had one, forget about privacy and personal space. They watch you undress, shower and get dressed. It was a bit much. And they will rub you down EVERYWHERE. Personally, I found the whole thing quite intrusive, so I couldn't relax. Also didn't help that the two women working on me had incredibly offensive body odor, and since they get so up close and personal, you cant help but smell it.

The food was pretty good, but we had just spent a week with family in India spoiling us with multiple elaborate home-cooked meals a day, so we didn't find the food to be memorable in comparison.

In summary, the place is clean and fine. The room itself is beautiful, but the grounds are anything but. So, if you're willing to spend that much, you might as well go somewhere else.

(Also, I'm probably stating the obvious here but do no have the hotel book a taxi for you. They are 2-3x more expensive than getting it yourself. The hotel ferry picks up and drops off at a location that the staff generically call "Parking". If you just walk over the bridge, you'll find a taxi stand and stand-alone taxi companies.)
