“Watch out for the whirlpools!”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

This is really famous and well-known sightseeing location in Naruto, Tokushima-ken. I have been here several times, however, I could only see the whirlpools only one or two times. because it is caused by the sea water level, you actually get to see only two times a day, morning and evening. Therefore, you have to check the time frame ahead of your visiting in order to see.

“No guarantee to see the whirlpools”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

The thing with nature is it isn't clockwork. Even if you come in the peek season and come when the tide is ideal there is no guarantee that you will see the whirlpools. That being said, the bridge itself is actually really cool on it's own and you can still enjoy a visit even if the whirlpools aren't spectacular.

I live in Naruto, so I know that sometimes these whirlpools are AMAZING. So hopefully you get lucky and get to see them. It's still worth a visit if you are in the area.

“Thunderous Whirpools!”
Reviewed November 29, 2012 via mobile

Be here during the autumn and you can clearly see the thunderous whirpools emerging from the sea. For a better view, you may take the path underneath the Onaruto bridge with a minimal fee.Overall a great experience. If you wish to go for further extreme adventure, take the boat that available for tour.A must see if you visit Tokushima.

“If you are in Naruto, stop here, it is fun...”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

If you go, do plan your visit beforehand.
Important starting point is to check the tide schedule. You can do this via their website (japanese only) or with the tourist information office.
We took the bus from Naruto JR Station. The buses to Naruto park don't go that frequent, so check this as well.
It is at the end station of the bus line, so you can't miss.
The observatory is a 500 meter walkway under a bridge (Naruto-ohashi) with good viewing points and perspex windows in the floor. The whirlpools are impressive.
