“Six wonderful days”
Reviewed June 27, 2012

Biking the canal towpath has been fantastic. My husband and I rented a tandem from Breton Bikes and they set up the route plus lodging for us. We have absolutely loved it. The canal is beautiful, varied, and relaxing. Do this--you will not regret it!

“Ideal cycling Base”
Reviewed June 15, 2012

The Brest/ Nantes ship canal is ideally suited for a long distance cycling holiday, however if you are more comfortable cycling from a permant location then Joselin maybe for you. Joselin is an attractive medieval town with a well preserved castle and some steep, narrow ancient streets. In Joseline itself there is a reasonable range of accommodation ranging from chambres d'hotes to up market hotels. This is a popular location for tourists from all over the world and when I visited there were an abundance of Americans, Brits, Canadians and Germans in evidence. Unlike other parts of the canal there are a number of well marked circular routes from Joselin for cyclists and if you have a car then you are spoilt for the choice of scenic, medieval towns all within easy travelling distance. Were I ever to return to this region Joselin would be at the very top of places to revisit.

“Take a day to explore the canal by foot, cycle or boat”
Reviewed September 18, 2011

One of the great features of Josselin is that it is set on the canalised River Oust (the River forms part of the Nantes-Brest Canal). Besides forming the perfect back drop to the Chateau, the canal offers a number of leisure opportunities.
A pleasant 15 minute stroll west along the towpath besides the Oust leads to the Ile de Beaufort, and island stretching between the river and the lock that allows canal boats to pass. This makes for a beautiful picnic spot, with grassy banks shaded by willow trees.
If you are feeling more energetic you can hire canoes/kayaks & cycles from the River Quay May to September. A cycle to Le Roc St Andre for lunch and back should be within the capabilities of most occasional cyclists. If you take a picnic, you will find regular halts with picnic tables along the canal bank.
If you prefer a powered boat, Nico Nautic hire river boats in summer (10am-8pm/4 & 6 person boats/hiring from 30 min. to a full day), with suggested circuits for 1, 3 and 7 hour trips.
