Our meal at Trattoria del Borgo was one of the highlights of our whole Italian adventure. We went to Bologna specifically because we'd heard they had the best food in Italy. And they did.
The pillowcase veal in Barbara was one of the best meat dishes i've ever had. The chocolate ganache with pear puree was amazing.
We got the traditional tasting menu, and my only regret was not realizing how much food was going to be coming (I was expecting more sample sizes of each dish but these were full size plates for each course), or I wouldn't have finished the earlier dishes to leave more room for the later ones (dessert!). (I was full after 2 courses and there were 5 in total).
The presentation was beautiful. The waiter (who I think was the owner as well) was delightful and spoke great english to our surprise since we realized we were in a less touristy area. We ordered a bottle of wine from the agriturismo where we were staying and he told us about a few more of their wines that were really good. At the end, he had us try a walnut liquor that his father made, which made the 3 small kids cracking walnuts at a table when we arrived make sense.
Oh, and the price was great. 25 euro for the 5 course meal. It was a really fun, romantic night.
