Waterkloof Guesthouse

We received a very warm welcome from the owners of this guest house.....cups of tea and lots of advice on our travels. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and Christine very kindly cooked us a delicious dinner with lovely local wine to accompany it. The accommodation was spotless and very comfortable, we had a great night's sleep. Breakfast was good and we had our first taste of ostrich eggs by way of creamy scrambled eggs. Then we were treated to a ride around the farm and given a very informative lesson on raising ostriches and sheep. The owners were so friendly and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Would recommend highly....if there is a drawback, and it wasn't for us, then it could be the 23k drive down a dirt road to get to the property. We thought this just added to the general experience!

Hannes and Christine make you feel very much at home in their beautiful surroundings. The rooms are immaculate and the food quite delicious. It is a long way down a dirt road but well worth the effort, particularly to find out more about how the family has farmed down the generations. If we ever return to the region we would happily go back

Stayed at the farm for 2 nights and it's a nice and peaceful place to stay. Good service with very friendly people. They even made a braai for us the first night.
the visit to the ostrich farm was very interesting. Learn a lot of new things about the ostrich. They also have items for sale which come from there own ostriches, wallets purses etc.
Although it's not really located close to the main road it was definitely worth it.

The family Uys proved to be great hosts in receiving us and to let us enjoy their cooking. This guesthouse lies well apart from Witsand, so you have to drive quite far over gravel-roads...but anyway you get used to it, because also in the direction of the De Hoop Nature Reserve you'll drive over these roads and will use then also a hand-pulled ferry over a quite river. The Host spend the first evening at dusk quite some time with us, driving us around his fields, collecting ostrich-eggs to be put in the breeding-machines and showing where his sons were harvesting cereals. For us, from the Netherlands, it was great to speak with them in Dutch whilst they were speaking Afrikaans
For those who like ostrichs-leather bags ...here is the place to be.
So certainly a recommendation to stay for 2 nights.

My husband and I stayed at Waterkoof Guesthouse on a slow journey back to Cape Town. Hannes and Christine provided a very warm welcome with a friendly cup of tea and in no time had us absorbed in a the details of ostrich farming and wanting to return in the breeding season although we had only just arrived! We were taken to a gathering of the local farming community on an adjacent farm for dinner - a very special experience for us city dwellers. The accomodation is excellent with thoughtful attention to all details including the selection of magazines in the room. After a superb breakfast we were given an ostrich egg to take home as a present and I was able to purchase the ostrich skin handbag I have been looking for at a very reasonable price.

We really fell in love with Waterkloof Guestfarm near Witsand! But not only with the farm and location, but also with the hosting Family. Hannes and Christine Uys are warm hosts and give you an inside of daily farm life. Hannes showed us around the austriches and we went harvesting their eggs in the evening. Last year we stayed at the mainhouse in a lovely room. This year however, we booked the lovely cottage on the farm with maximum privacy and views. Although it is selfactering, treat yourself to the dinners of Christine and experience African food at it best! Her boboti is unbeatable by restaurants. The Hoop Nature reserve is close and also the Breede rivier and beaches are closeby. So much to do that is really a must for at least 2 or 3 nights. .
