We stayed here with kids on a stopover to Bretagne and loved the place. Odile and Eric make you feel right at home, the atmosphere is like a private mansion, rooms are charming (while a tad worn down) and food is great. Lots of regional bio products and the best homemade yoghurt in the world. Very nice!!!

This is a simply magnificent place. The site was beautiful. The staff could not have been more enthusiastic, more warm, more helpful. The food was magnificent. Eric and Odile's, the proprietors, were especially welcoming and helpful, not only in describing the details of the meals (which were superb) but also in helping us with the rest of our itinerary. This is a hotel to go out ofyour way for. We intend to come back.

We stayed at Le Clos for one night in May. There were 3 of us. My spouse, my 9 year old boy and I. By the time we had been traveling for 2 weeks around Normandy and Brittany and we mostly had stayed at the hotels of Relais and Chateaux chain. The members of the chain are normally very good but Le Clos was really outstanding. The friendliness of its owners makes the place different. It has a soul which unfortunately a rare thing these days. I may call myself quite an experience and demanding traveller and its not so easy to surprise me but Eric and Odile managed to do it. And after all there quisine was superb. They take all ingredients from there local farms and all food is organic. I can strongly recommend the place.

This was our first visit although we are Relais et Chateaux 5C Club members. It was excellent. A charming building tastefully restored and in excellent repair. A enthusiastic welcome from a couple who clearly love their metier.
We had a junior suite which was well furnished and very comfortable with a view of the tallest bell tower in Europe and overlooking one of "les plus beaux villages de France".
The bathroom was very modern with bath and shower, hairdryer and toiletriesetc. One small gripe - why the modern trend to not provide face cloths? This hotel is not unique in this.
The food was good, the wine list extensive -pricey in clarets but some good bottles from elsewhere. Service was also good. Everything served with a smile. Most enjoyable stay and thoroughly worth a detour. Go soon- you will not regret it

Room Tip: Junior suite excellent

Not being on the main thoroughfare we found the hotel was very well worth taking the extra mile for.
The host and hostess were excellent in their hospitality, the language was not a barrier, we should learn more French but Eric's sense of humour shined through, the room was exactly as we expected and dinner was excellent, a feast in fact.

We will endeavour to return to this haven of peace

We spent 3 nights at this small and charming hotel and were given excellent service and attention by the proprietors Eric and Odile. Our spacious suite had been refurbished just before we arrived and was very comfortable and well equipped. The room had 3 large Georgian style windows so was very light and airy. The king size bed was very comfortable. As we stayed during cool April weather we didn’t need to open the windows. It’s possible there may be slight traffic noise from the road a few hundred yards away if they were opened but we were not aware of it when walking round the grounds in the day. In summer the trees would hide the road which didn’t trouble us at all during our stay despite both being light sleepers. The bathroom and separate toilet were also very spacious and the massage shower was a treat. The cuisine at dinner was superb and the breakfast was also excellent. A choice of 2 cereals was on the table and yogurt and fresh fruit, croissants, bread, butter and conserves were brought along with the tea and coffee.
Unusually there was no breakfast menu and we discovered, on reading the brochure in the room later, that we could have ordered hot food. However, we had more than enough to eat and it was all good quality.
The owners lent us bikes and we did a 25km ride in the surrounding countryside. The town was easy to walk to and it was very pleasant exploring the medieval streets.
The owners are adding a bistro, a spa and a conservatory as well as restoring more rooms in a separate building. This will extend the facilities and should appeal to a wider clientele.

Thank you Eric and Odile for a warm welcome and lovely dinner tonight.

The suite itself is absolutely charming and so well fitted out- we do not want to leave. The fitments and soft furnishings are elegant and beautifully put together. The views to the garden quite superb.

The dinner tonight was delicious, inventive and colourful. I am so sorry you are not open for dinner on the Monday night but at least we shall share breakfast for two mornings.

The town itself is pretty and the hostellerie Le Clos is so close to the historic walks and the centre of town.

I can't praise Eric and Odile's attention to detail and friendly, warm welcome enough. They immediately help guests to feel at ease. Thank you so much.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Le Clos, the story start in 1770 when the nuns of the Abbey of Saint-Nicolas bought the land under the old regime called "The garden of the Beguine". Bordered by the remains of city walls and a tower called the white tower, the plots became peasant gardens. A century later, in 1886 - under the protection of a gentleman benefactor of the Abbey of Saint-Nicolas - a Castle was born. The Benedictine nuns began hosting families opened a school for girls of the abbey. The round tower and the square pavilion, pepper-pot roofs and four slopes, false battlements and tall chimneys, windows and doors decorated with braces, are a harmonious example of architectural style of Viollet-Le-Duc. The mansion was an inspiration for the architect to draw on the exceptional tower houses that have adorned the town of Verneuil since the fifteenth century. In gothic style, the walls come alive with color. The "checkerboard", so characteristic of the region, combines the dark brick called "flamed" orange brick and whitewashed plaster, while flints and brick diamonds offer subtle variations in the tone. The sisters welcome families into the 1960s. In 1961, it was renamed the Hostellerie du Clos. In 2007 it became Le Clos. The castle original will require ongoing renovations, modernization and decoration but will preserve its original spirit. In the spring of 2015 will rise to a former conservatory Gustave Eiffel style of 100 sqm, facing south with a view overlooking the park. It will host the breakfasts, a restaurant that showcases the "Bistronomie" tea room, reading and rest ... A relaxation area with a swimming pool cover, bio sauna, bio steam room, fitness , energy showers ... Finally a south-facing terrace on the ground floor equipped with sun and a beautiful place "nose in the grass" to eat more lightly. Today, the castle of fifteen rooms and suites located in a park of ancient trees has beautiful botanicals, beautiful and loyal birds, four hives with bees pollinate flowers and tree gardens. He is a member of Relais & Châteaux since 1975 and this year celebrates its fortieth anniversary of belonging to this great association ... more   less
