El Cobijo is an amazing small hotel. My family and I prefer to stay at small bed and breakfasts, especially in Europe, because it allows you the opportunity to get to know so many new and interesting people. Juan and Carmen fit this description perfectly. First of all, their house is beautiful. When you walk through the door from the street, it's like you've stepped into a private neighborhood. There is a central courtyard with all of the rooms branching off in different directions. Some of them are up windy and steep staircases, but that just adds to its charm! The breakfast room has one, big table where you sit each morning with the other guests (your neighbors) and eat great food. The fresh orange juice was wonderful, as were the breads and homemade jams.

We stayed in the Setenil room, which was spotlessly clean each day. The bathroom was very nice and had a long counter with two sinks--great for getting ready in the mornings. The decor of the whole house is very fun and artistic. You can tell that Juan and Carmen truly love their home and take pride in sharing its beauties with others.

Carmen made us feel so welcome, and she spoiled our little boy rotten! She even gave us some of the leaves off of her aloe vera plant when we came home with sunburns from the beach! Every morning we'd talk about our plans for the day, and she and Juan would give us tips for things to do and see, which beaches were the best, which restaurants to try, etc. Juan is also very environmental. He uses solar power at El Cobijo, and he is big on conservation, which is great.

The town and surrounding countryside and beaches are incredibly beautiful. I believe that Vejer de la Frontera, where this hotel is located, is the prettiest white walled pueblo in Southern Spain. If you are looking for the comforts of home, and the chance to stay with some truly friendly and gracious hosts, El Cobijo is your best choice.

I can for everybody to advise this lovely house in Vejer! It is in a silent backstreet, with wonderfull panorama and friendly rooms. The breakfast is fantastic (fresh orange juice, handmade cake etc) and Susanna, she's the housewife, is very helpful and friendly. I hope, I can get to there again!

We discovered El Cobijo searching the web for places in the white washed mountain walled villages typical of Andalucia. We booked the room Tarifa and it literally blew us away. First literally because we arrived during their winter "Levante" the windy season and it was dramatic. Figuratively blown away by the magic you feel just on entering the courtyard. Our room/suite came with small kitchen and table but best of all 2 terraces that overlooked the entire town, ffrom the village church east all the way to the ocean south. It was pefectly located both for exploring the town and for day trips to the roman ruins on the ocean, to more of the mountain Villages. Susana, the proprietor, was supremely gracious from the spectacular breakfasts she cooked from scratch to the use of email in her office. I would go no where else in that area.

Vejer is a wonderful foot hill town filled with white washed homes. The streets are lined with orange trees. El Cobijo was a wonderful oasis for us. A great place to make as your base as you explore the tranquil and striking landscape of Andalusia. the rooms were comfortable and clean and the help was gracious. Breakfast each morning was worth waking up for. Very private and safe. I would return.

In a middle of a month travelling in Spain, we spent four nights at El Cobijo de Vejer. It remains our favorite moment of the trip. It is a jewel of a place, uniquely and attractively decorated, very comfortable, with unforgettable views of the town and the surrounding country side. The owner, Juan Linares, is an exceptional man: warm, welcoming, helpful, friendly, very knowledgable about spain. He started the hotel wanting it to be a place where guests would feel as if the were friends and not clients. He has succeeded admirably. We can hardly wait to return.
