“Refreshingly un-stuffy.”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

If you want an understated, informal, cool, chic and different "home from home" concept, then you will enjoy Hotel V. Situated in the deafeningly quiet back streets of Verja de la Frontera (midway between Gibraltar and Cadiz) an historic picturesque hill town with narrow cobbled streets. No car parking so be ready for a short hike (not suitable for disabled) to the hotel.
Whilst the hotel does not have a restaurant there are good ones nearby, including Jardin de Califa which is an excellent Moroccan. Breakfast is a collective affair served on trays with the other guests around low coffee tables in the salon. Roof terrace, architecture and honesty bar all very cool but dont expect room service or reception after 9pm in the winter. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Extremely comfortable and about as refreshingly un-stuffy and relaxed as it gets.

We were very off season and the only people staying in this small hotel but we loved every bit of it. Wonderful, tastefully decorated rooms, helpful and friendly but unobtrusive staff and a restful atmosphere. The breakfast is simple but delicious and overall, we heartily recommend this gem of a hotel.

I can highly reccomend this small and personal hotel. All rooms are spacious, very nicely designed, have exclusive bed linen and furniture. Some have a bath tub as one of the centerpieces in the room. Great breakfast. Many opportunities for excursions in the area, including beaches, horse riding and walks.

Room Tip: Do not choose the room above the reception, there are nicer and more spacious ones.

We wanted to stay somewhere special for New Years Eve 2012 and we weren't disappointed. The rooms are stunning, modern and very clean. The hospitality of the woman running the hotel was warm and friendly. As they don't have a restaurant we were worried about where we would eat, but after emailing the hotel, they spoke to a restaurant they knew was open and booked a table for us. When we got back from dinner there was a bottle of Cava and a friendly note wishing us a Happy New Year in own room, which was a lovely surprise.

Even though they don't have a restaurant they do serve you a lovely big Spanish breakfast if you request it. This is extra, but not too expensive and worth it.

The views from the roof are amazing....

... Bit pricey for a week there, but for one special night it was perfect.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't overlook the reception area, it's a little noisy as they alway h...

We spend me and my family 2 nights in the Hotel V at the end of december. We asked for a suite. It's a very big room and, very well decorated. The salon is also a very quiet and really nice place. The personal is vert kind. Vejer de la frontera is a very special place and city.

We stayed here in October and made a last minute booking after our itinerary changed. We loved it so much that we decided to add a third night after arriving. It's a beautiful, small hotel in probably the best spot in the town. Much care and attention were given to the design and furnishings. We had a gorgeous view from our room at the top of the hill - opting for the superior or exclusive room is worth it for the view and extra space. We were fortunate to have received an upgrade because it was off-season and the hotel was practically empty, but it would have been worth the extra money had an upgrade not been possible. We found the breakfast worth the price and enjoyed sitting in the courtyard each morning (loved the fresh orange juice!). The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. As other reviewers have noted, you can't drive to the front of the hotel, so be sure to obtain directions to the parking lot before arrival. From there you can either take a taxi or walk (tricky with luggage/hills/cobblestones). Once at the hotel, we didn't need the car as the town is small and really designed for pedestrians. There are nice restaurants just around the corner from the hotel and the hotel provided a good recommendation. We'd love to have the chance to return sometime!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hotel V at the end of July earlier this summer and had an amazing time. I sometimes have reservations about staying at very small hotels or B&Bs because I feel a little claustrophobic if the owner also Iives on the premises/ is always around. My fears were completely unfounded at Hotel V: the staff strike a perfect balance between being around when you need them and leaving you feeling free to completely relax and unwind, with little touches such as honesty bars and breakfast trays that can be enjoyed anywhere throughout the hotel. Our room was perfect - the staff were kind enough to give us an upgrade as a room with a view was available which made the stay all the more special. We loved lounging around on the rooftop sun deck with plunge pool - there was a great playlist and I keep meaning to get in touch to ask who covers one of the songs as I've been unable to find it anywhere else!

Quick point on Vejer itself - we were attracted to the town because Hotel V looked so amazing and within easy reach of Jerez airport but we didn't know much about it in general. Main specialities of restaurants are meat and seafood dishes which were great for me but less so for my vegetarian boyfriend. However, we did stumble across a fantastic pizza restaurant by the theatre - I'm afraid I don't remember the name but am sure the lovely staff at Hotel V would be able to point you in the right direction. Also - being a town in rural Spain English isn't particularly widely spoken so might be an idea to brush up on some key phrases before you go - I spent the first couple of days googling key phrases I'd forgotten from school!
