The Poet restaurant provided a reasonably priced evening of quirky good fun. The owner recites verse to his guests extemporising on the names and looks of diners. His family provided a huge range of food to satisfy most tastes with a drink included. A nice touch at the end of the meal was a sugar cane/rum cocktail mixed directly in the mouth. The cane is squeezed into the mouth of clients and then rum added.

Last night in Baracoa and looking for a place to eat with a group of 7 we came across El Poeta The wide open door was already very inviting and the large group already inside didn't change our mind. The owner and all other staff are extremely friendly and are willing to go the extra mile to make the dinner experience something special. Aside, the food is of good quality and is served quickly.

There is a bit of special entertainment to this experience. A huge film screen was inflated and a movie about Cuba nature was shown. The other group also had to do a simple drinking game which was a little annoying as the game was close to our table and group did not show much respect for us. Luckily the owner noticed it and provided us with a special gift (cocoa ball) at departure.

If you're in Baracoa, make sure you eat in this lovely restaurant. You're going to enjoy it.

This place was a trip, in the best sense. It’s in the town of Baracoa, not far from the square, and we were greeted with a constantly playing video of Cuban/Latino dance music on a large screen. The owner of this paladar is a self-proclaimed poet and protector of the local endangered snail. Our group took over most, but not all of the restaurant, and the food just kept coming all evening − including an okra vegetable dish, yucca, star fruit, scallops, shrimp, lobster, octopus, lamb, pork, goat (?), tuna, and rice and beans. Many of the dishes were overcooked (as seems to be par for Cuban restaurants). Dessert was cocoa beans (with the sweet gel that surrounds them), chocolate ice cream, and coconut pudding, a tasty combination. At the end of the evening, the outgoing owner entertained with extemporaneous poetry, snail races up any volunteer's hand, and some rum-based drinking games. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

The restaurant is amazing. The owner "O Poeta" really understood how things works.
The food is different from the one you can normally eat in Cuba. The owner is very friendly and he likes to welcome his customers personally. The food is a lot, various and tasty.
During the dinner "O Poeta" comes to the table to recite one of his poems and making games to entertain.
There is also a surprise at the end of the dinner... but I cannot say it ;-)
A restaurant not to miss.
