We stayed here as part of a tour. Baracoa is an interesting place to visit and this is the biggest hotel. It felt quite awkward living in relative luxury high above the poverty stricken people below. However the views are stunning and the place is clean but tired and dated. There is a lovely pool and pool bar but no extra towels and the reception staff refused to let us have any more than the 2 in the room! Unfortunately the staff were grumpy and seemed as tired as the whole place so I don't know what happened to all the friendly people everyone else came into contact with. The food was OK but we went into the town one one night which was an adventure and well worth the experience.

El Castillo is all about the location set high on the hill above Baracoa on the site of the old fort. We had spectacular views over the town to the sea and then from the balcony spectacular vistas out to El Yunque and the terrifying looking air strip. The pool area and bar were lovely and made the most of the views, our room was spacious and clean and the balcony was an excellent spot for a sundowner! We had hot water (gasp/swoon) and were genuinely comfortable, in part due to the fierce, but welcome, air conditioning! Breakfast was pretty average unfortunately and it was hard to get much in the way of a smile out of anyone but I can't see how you'd get a better place to stay in Cuba's first capital!

An amazing hotel where the staff bends over backward to accommodate. They greet you like family and make sure you are comfortable and cared for. The rooms are clean and large with windows that open to the amazing views of Baracoa. The pool is wonderful with a view of El Yunque from the water.

Room Tip: Ask for a room by the pool on the second floor - the views are the best!

I recently returned from a 4 day stay at El Castillo. The views are fabulous...of the sea and the charming town of Baracoa. The rooms are comfortable with fridge, TV and Air Cond. The food is quite good. The pool was crystal clear. Best of all is the helpful and pleasant staff...from the director of the hotel to the wait staff and the chambermaids...everyone was anxious to please and very accessible. I hope to return soon...it was great.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool can be a bit noisy if there are a lot of swimmers. It didn't bother me.

I recently spent 5 nights at El Castillo and was very pleased with the cleanliness of the room, the magnificent views and especially the friendly, helpful staff. The pool and bar area couldn't have a more stunning backdrop of the mountains, beach, city and bay. Highly recommended.
