This is our home away from home. We love the beautiful rooms at this hotel and this time around we had one with a mountain view. We will recommend Double Tree by Hilton Upper Eastside to friends and family who will be visiting Cape Town.

First thing to realise is that this hotel is not in central cape town, its about 6KM out in a mixed residential and office area. The area is pretty safe but still not the best - its more a sort of 'up and coming' area.

As a mid range hotel I found it to be very reasonably priced. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable, but lacked character. Staff were friendly and efficient, although there was a strike outside the hotel it didn't affect the service inside except that the breakfast staff appeared to be under pressure.

The hotel is set in a shared building with office, shop and a couple of cafes, which was handy. There was also a fully equipped gym that hotel guests could use in the building, which was more of a iron weights/ cross fit / meathead gym than a pink vinyl dumbbells / cardio gym, which suited me fine.

A typical Double tree property that comes with all the benifits and amenities you would expect from a Double tree(including the delicious warm cookies upon checkin!). The inhouse restaurant is decent and the breakfast comes with a wide range of dishes - for a sumptuous meal - though very poor in local choices. The bar is actually pretty good for a hotel bar, and comes well stocked esp. for mean cocktails and craft beers!

LOCATION: Though it is midway between the city center and the airport, you are never far away from wonderful views of the Table mountain. And the proximity to Woodstock neighborhood makes it a great base to explore that area.

THE ROOM: As a Diamond member, i got upgraded to the LOFT SUITES on the 5th floor. Simply put it was a Palatial pad! AIR CONDITIONING: Wonderfully conditioned; SIZE: HUGE space spread between two floors, imitating a New york style LOFT apartment. GOod enough for a residential homestay. AMENTITIES: Lovely toileteries(Spa Quality); BED - Decent bed for a good night's sleep; BATHROOM -Swanky and clean bathroom with a good stand-in shower and a glamarous standalone bathtub!

FITNESS FACILITIES: The highlight of the property - They have not just one, but two Gyms! Nonetheless, you can ignore the mini gym they have on the 2nd floor. Head straight to the public gym that you get access to as a hotel guest , that is located on the ground floor. It is a Crossfit Gym and you get rewarded with a very interesting workout and a wide range of mean machines and weights/equipments!! Killer workout assured. Also there is a decent Indoor heated pool at the same gym.

SERVICE : Friendly service and very polite staff overall. But avoid the Bar if you can as the bar tender especially is an acquired taste and is mildly rude most of the times!

HOW WIRED YOU WOULD BE: FREE Wifi that worked all around the property and was fast enough. Good choice of TV channels - both English and international covering Music, movies, sports and other entertainment

We were extremely satisfied by the space in the room, however our first room never had a view so we had to upgrade to get a better view costing us an additional R520 which wasnt budgeted for. Anyway....
