The first time we stayed here, I wrote glowingly and was happy to stay here again, particularly as the rate offered was excellent on an airline/hotel prepaid rate.
Most of the staff were incredibly helpful, all with the exception of one of the receptionist at the check-in desk who was matter-of-fact and did not do her job properly. This was understandable as she was manning the reception, answering the phone and was answering dumb questions from a guest and trying to book taxi's for another guest while checking me in. The hotel should have had more staff at around 11.30 am. They forgot to ask me for a credit card enabling me to charge expenses to the room.
I never knew how crucial this would be, until 1.30 am when I was woken from my slumbers by some member of staff who was now "cashing-up" and wanted me to come down to reception with a credit card as they now noticed they had no record of a credit card on my check-in form. Not quite what I would have expected from an institution that claims to have a 4 star rating! This is a simple thing that goes wrong and then snowballs into mega-destruction when I refuse to get out of bed and go downstairs to "sort out my credit card". I could have taken umbrage at being treated like a shoplifter, but I had enjoyed such a pleasant evening with such good restaurant waiters and bar staff that nothing could have spoiled. The meal we had was absolutely excellent. We shared a tasty vegetable tempura and my daughter went on to enjoy a wonderful grilled chicken on a bed of vegetables, which was cooked to perfection! I had a Thai curry which was excellent and so full of rich flavour that I had to send kudos to the chef. I was at a Thai restaurant on my last visit to cape Town and was bitterly disappointed. I would recommend guests to dine here - it beats getting the car out of the garage and one can enjoy a glass or two of wine. Michael at the bar is very attentive and not only does he pour good drinks, his coffee is very good.
Obviously I wasn't the only guest that hadn't had a credit card swiped on check-in as one or two guests were refused room charges until they had rectified the matter. How I flew under the radar until after midnight is a puzzle.
As one or two other travelers have pointed out, do not stay at this hotel if you do not have a car or an organised tour and tour-bus. One has to taxi to and from the hotel otherwise, and if one is happy with that then its fine to stay here as most restaurants and shopping areas are very close, so taxi fares should be moderate.
