We flew with Inghams/Monach again this year and we must be the unluckiest group going. Another 7 hour delay at Gatwick with very little information given out and just by luck we found that we could get some tokens for food/drink.
Finally we arrived in Levi very tired and very late. We missed our evening meal - no food or drink was offered. After finding our rooms which really could do with an update and new electrical sockets in convenient places as they supplied extension leads that were dangerous to use. We finally slept for 4 hours as we were informed that we had to book into the ski school by 8.30 even though it had all been prebooked and paid for in UK. The ski school was very dissorganised and the teachers just hung around outside the ski school building and you have to find them. Not easy when we had 5 kids with different teachers! Our 2 teenage skiers had a really poor learner in their class who held them up for the 3 booked lesson and the teacher never put the learner down a class so the 3 lessons were completely wasted on them as they were held up constantly.
The hotel was not as convienient as last years hotel. We had 2 roads to cross and a hill and building site to contend with. We walked up the hill with skis in a tobogon as the hotel had a store room for the ski gear which was good. You can leave things in the new Zero One building but its very expensive as is everything else in Levi.
We ordered 2 glasses of wine at the hotel and it cost 20 euros! We were told by Inghams by a piece of paper stuck on the room door that we should be in reception for 4 pm for the coach home - no food was offered for the meal we missed (not that there was much to chose from in the hotel anyway). Our rep stood outside the hotel for 45mins and never bothered to come into the reception to check we were all there. I went to check what was going on as the coach was late, she never bothered to inform anyone unless they went to her..not the best trained travel rep.
Got home ok and just a little late. would I use this hotel and Inghams again NOOOOOO definately not.

Second time in Levi and a bit dissapointed with the Hotel this year. It seemed tired and although rooms functional and sauna and drying cabinet a bonus, tea and coffee was in the room with hot chocolate but the electrics very dodgy with leads from the kettle having to be plugged into hanging sockets and dangerous for anyone making hot water drinks. They did not seem to be geared for the amount of guests. Breakfast was ok, thank god for the waffle machine! Often no table available to sit at and group with children split up. Children (and adults) struggled to find food they liked and again often basics like orange juice and bread ran out with long queues for one of the two toasting machines. Play area for kids a corner in the cloakroom, did not try hard enough. Ski room good, big and warm. A walk accross two roads and through building site to slopes a bit precarious. I would advise anyone with children to stay closer to slopes.Sking great, people lovely but everything pricier this year and lots of building going on as it is expanding quickly. (6 euros a bowl of chips!) Still a great place to visit, snow amazing!

We have just returned from Levi on 03/03/2008 and had a brilliant time in beautiful area. We booked our holiday through First Choice and stayed at the Sirkantahti hotel. We used Trip advisor to choose between The Sirkantahti and The Crazy Reindeer.

Sirkantahti Hotel

The hotel is a series of single storey buildings which are not joined, which means you have to brave the cold going between your room and the reception, dining room and bar area.

The bar is located in the dining room with several comfortable chairs in front of a wide screen TV. The bar itself is small and generally without any atmosphere in the evening.
The meals were as expected and as described in many previous reviews, breakfast was probably the better option, with the usual European food, hams cheeses, tinned fruit etc and always a hot option. ( make your own Waffle )

The evening meals were themed, Nordic, Mexican, Lappish etc, the common theme was Salmon, venison, various fish dishes and as much salad as you could eat . Sadly the meals were in our experience never very hot and often just warm. Tinned fruit did make a second appearance one evening but this time in a fruti cake desert !, however the table service by the staff was very good

The rooms were exactly as shown in the brochure, sparse but functional, the rooms were always hot enough for us. The shower is actually a wet room with a Sauna which was a nice touch. The drying cupboard was very useful and the beds were very comfortable

Skiing

The skiing was great with plenty of Blues and Reds for us to explore and skiing off Piste through the adjoining woods was good fun. The various cafes on the slopes were good value
The scenery really is stunning , if your lucky you may see wild Reindeer near the top of the Gondola so don’t forget your camera
My daughter learnt to snow board which was booked through First Choice, the instruction was good and she was riding down the Red slope within 3 days and she has the bruises to prove it

Excursions

There are many excursions, we went Snow mobiling , Husky sledding and horse riding thorough the local forests. These trips can be very expensive for the whole family, we booked the horse riding and Husky sledding through a local company in the village called Snow White excursions, they were generally cheaper and were very helpful. The snow mobiling was free through First Choice, all the excursions were great fun and well organised. The horse riding filled Sunday afternnon before the flight home.

Night life

Levi is a small area that is not overly commercialised but it had enough bars, restaurants and night life to keep my family occupied. Beer was 5 euros a pint, wine was 6 euros a glass, eating out could prove expensive for a family with children
We usually visited the local bars or drank in the lounge of The Crazy Reindeer where you can use the internet for free and wireless connection is available free if you do have to use a lap top. The Sirkantahti just did not have enough atmosphere in the evenings to make it worth drinking in the bar

Overall view

We thoroughly enjoyed our skiing holiday and plan to return next year, though we will probably stay in a log cabin, the Crazy Reindeer or Levi 5 hotel. The Sirkantahti will not be our first choice next year based on the cold meals and general lack of atmosphere, the hotel would benefit from refurbisment

Don’t under estimate the cold when skiing, the temperature was between -12 and -18 all week, the top of the mountain was even colder with the wind chill factor. We wore thermal tops etc and balaclavas under our hats, this was enough to keeps us warm. The Finnish people are very friendly and speak good English, Go to Levi and enjoy yourselves

This hotel has a great location not far from the slopes. If you are feeling lazy and don't want to walk the 5 mins to the slope then you can always get the free ski bus that stops outside.

Hotel was clean, warm and had everything we needed for our stay.

Food was good, all you can eat buffet especially, if you like fish.

The only downside was that you had to pay for the wireless access, so do what we did- get yourself a nice latte and use the free one at the cafe near Zero Point.

It's the second trip to Levi, it's a winter wonderland that is just so beautiful.

Stayed at this hotel through first choice, and I could only describe it as average for the price you pay overall... The layout of the whole place is a bit weird as if you stay in a hotel room then you end up having to go outside to the dining room (which is in a seperate building next to reception). Now this would be no bad thing really, but when you consider that it averages -10 to -15 degrees celsius (sometimes more!) then its a case of 'wrap up warm' and then once inside for your meal its 'few its hot in 'ere so strip off again, and vice versa!! Food is OK but the breakfast is marginilly better than dinner.
Rooms are OK but a bit '80's' in style, and would benifit from a refurb. You have a nice big drying cupboard which is a bonus >>>TIP>>> if your room is cold, then put on the drying cupboard (you can set the temp and the time duration, bit like a washing machine) leave the door slightly open, and this will add heat to the room, but the rooms seem fairly warm anyhow. You have a thermometer on the outside of your window which is a nice touch.
Levi is a great resort and would definately go back, but would stay at a different hotel... if you are booked at this hotel dont worry about it as its only my view, and I came away feeling satisfied overall with my stay... my main niggle? fellow brits moaning and groaning about EVERYTHING under the sun!!!
.

  • Liked — level of equipment in the rooms (drying cupboard, sauna, fridge etc)
  • Disliked — Having to walk outside to your meals, and important for me... NO Bath !!!

We stayed here for a week from 27th January booked with First Choice. Rooms were totally functional, very warm, sometimes too warm particularly at night, but the temeratures outside dropped as low as -24 so i am not complaining! the Sauna was great, room for 2 and a lovely thing to do after the slopes. Drying closet was useful, and the hotel has its own ski storage. We went half board, the food was perfectly adequate, breakfast was great, though we ate out a couple of times in the evening to avoid cabin fever in the hotel (try the Steakhouse, it was lovely!!)

Great location, walking distance to the front pistes and bus stop right outside hotel to get to the others including the gondola

Really enjoyed the stay and would definately reccomend hotel

What an amazing place but don't be fooled into thinking that the temperature isn't an issue it is colder than you can contemplate if you have not expereinced it before, absolutely reccomend teh artic ski suits, not the mist chic but you will appreciate it.

We stayed at the Hotel Sirkantahti which was great, central location, the food was not to our taste but it was OK. Levi is lovely and a great place to ski phenominal conditions other than when the temp dropped to minus 26, no queues and a decent enough ski area, although not all the pistes are open in January.

Night life is Ok but tame, I guess it's too cold anyway for much pub crawling!, the people are very friendly and the whole place is very child friendly with loads to do, I didn't take my kids this time but will next year.

Be warned that everything is expensive (5 plus Euros for a beer and 15 for burger and chips), but worth it for the snow sure skiing and the lack of commercialisation. I can reccomend this place enough, other than to say maybe go later in the season, January was very very very cold, I will definitely be back next year with kids, Misus and Mother in tow!
