For our honeymoon, we had looked for a destination that we could get to quickly. We finally decided on Panama. We looked at various hotels in the downtown area, but stumbled upon Coconut Lodge while looking around on Trip Advisor. We ended up staying 5 nights at the lodge. The rooms were spacious, had great decor and most importantly clean. Mike and Nancy were great hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. We really felt like home. The helped us plan daytrips such as Monkey Island with Captain Carl and Portobela/Isla Grande with Mike. Nancy also took us to the Miraflores Locks and Casco Viejo. Mike is an excellent cook and made breakfast and dinner for us each day. We will definitely be back!!

We decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary at a warm place not too far from New York (up to 5 hours by air) but didn't want to do the standard Caribbean places ...so after some research we chose Panama, and with the high reviews at TripAdvisor we chose to stay at the Coconut Lodge.(stayed here for 4 nights).
This is a small bed and breakfast with a personal touch and someone to look after you. Breakfast and dinner were made to order, and even took our dietary restrictions into account. (Mike used to be a chef in Canada).
We were provided with rides and trip planning information with great details on what to see.
Mike and Nancy did not miss an opportunity to make our stay with them pleasant and enjoyable. The home is in a quiet beautiful neighborhood of private homes, gated and safe. The room was great, clean, spacious and modern looking, with a local touch.
As for cost, our room was $75 a night and included a full breakfast. (A comparable stay at Panama City at a good hotel was $200+). Dinner is also a bargain at $15 per person.
Nancy and Mike's recommendation to the one day tour of the Rain Forest and Monkey Island with Captain Carl was perfect and we really enjoyed it.
Overall, we strongly recommend staying at the Coconut Lodge. We had a good time. Thank you Mike and Nancy.

I picked this place and Panama for our trip solely based on tripadvisor reviews and I'm very glad I chose Coconut lodge. Mike, Nancy and Melissa were extremely friendly and always made a huge effort to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The place is exactly as in the photos shown on their home pages. The rooms are spacy, comfortable and airconditioned. The pool is also nice. Mike is an extremely good shef. Breakfast was very good. We had dinner at the lodge every night and were never dissapointed. The dinner is very reasonably priced (15$) as it had 3 courses and complimentary drink. We also loved that all the guests that stayed there at the same time with us ate at the same time so the dinner was great time to socialize with people around the world.

The lodge is 30-60min ride from downtown depending on traffic and will cost you 20-30$. Beside the extra cost we didn't see this as a minus. Most of the taxi drivers didn't know the lodge but with little spanish I could give them directions after the first visit to the lodge as the drivers knew where Las Cumbres is, so that shouldn't be a problem neither. Altough I'd recomend getting the airport pickup from the lodge because at the airport you'll end up ripped off by the taxi companies if you don't. We loved the lodge cus it located in a safe and quiet neighbourhood and on the other hand you were much closer to the natural parks like metropolitano and soberina.

Mike and Nancy will gladly give you advise on your trips and also when to go and where to get it. I especially recomend the monkey island tour and the half day city tour. I would recommend this place to anybody. If you want a relaxing vacation without stress in a peaceful place this is your choice. You won't be dissapointed with Coconut lodge.

We stayed seven nights in this lovely place, which was everything we would expect and even more! The location is peaceful and beautiful just next to rainforest. The rooms (we stayed in two different rooms because we took a trip to San Blas between our stays) were absolutely clean and charming with beautiful decoration, comfortable bed and lots of room to our luggage. The pool and the garden were also great places to hang out between trips.

Nancy, Mike and Melissa are the friendliest hosts! We got great tips where to go and what to do in the city and nearby. We took a half-day trip to the Casco Viejo and the Canal and a full-day trip to the Monkey island, which both we definitely recommend. Mike is a great cook, and we really enjoyed the meals at the hotel, actually they were so delicious we had dinner at the hotel every night we were in the city.

When staying in the Coconut Lodge you really feel welcome: the hosts take so good care of you, you feel like staying at friends place :). If we ever go back to Panama, we'll definitely stay at the Coconut Lodge again!

Room Tip: We stayed in Cafe con leche and Casa bambu, and both were equally fantastic: beautifully decorated...

Mike and Nancy were so accommodating. They had plenty of recommendations as to what to do in Panamá for our first time, as well as the safest and most efficient way to do it. They provided us a phone and were always able and willing to drop us off or pick us up from anywhere. This came in handy when we found ourselves in a pickle where we wouldn't have been able to hail a cab. Mike is an excellent cook, everyone was friendly, and the grounds were very well kept. I will say it is a little ways from the city and taxis often had a hard time finding the place, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: My boyfriend and I stayed in Café con Leche and enjoyed it.

This is a lovely relaxing place on the outskirts of Panama city. The hosts are friendly, helpful and attentive and can arrange day trips for you to any of the popular nearby attractions. Getting to and from the city itself from Coconut Lodge is a little awkward since a lot of taxi drivers are reluctant to drive to Las Cumbras from the downtown area, but the owners offer transfers. This is worth taking into account as two trips in and out of the city (eg. cycling and a nice dinner - which requires a change of clothes) will probably set you back $100 in total. With that in mind, I would recommend staying downtown for a night to enjoy the Causeway and old town and to avoid the stress of trying to get out here after your meal, and THEN stay here as a comfortable base for day trips, away from the bustle of the city (of course, on the other hand, you won't find anything of the same standard in the downtown area for the same price). That way, you can enjoy the pool and Mike's excellent cooking and relax without having to worry that you are not based in the city itself. The food is excellent (I particularly enjoyed breakfast) and very reasonable. I must add that the best part of our trip to Panama city was spent at Coconut Lodge, and I was happy to spend 2 of our 3 days out of the city centre!
