Our extended family of 9 unanimously declared this their favorite experience of our 26 day European adventure. This includes 5 star hotel stays in Florence, Rome, Madrid and Paris.

Luciano and Laura are wonderful hosts. If offered the opportunity you MUST partake of the dinner Laura prepares once in a while. It was also the best meal of our trip. I have a 6'5" 350lbs. Samoan brother in law and equally sized nephew and they couldn't finish the portions we were offered and we all wished we had more room in our tummies to eat the amazing delights including fried artichokes, roasted chicken, bean soup, homemade bread and pastries. I am sure I left something out as the wine offering was delicious and hit me about half way through. The breakfast is an equally stunning offering for a bed and breakfast. My kids who complained every morning of the trip that they wanted to sleep in were up at the crack of dawn for breakfast here.

The Farm Villa is located on what would be the typical Tuscan Vista you see in photographs. This is a great place to base yourself and visit Sienna or other hill villages. They offered us free shuttles to Sienna when needed, it is about a ten minute drive. From Sienna you can catch a bus or train to anywhere for the day.
We all can't wait to go back!

At the risk of piling onto prior reviews, we had an AWESOME experience staying at Il Canto Del Sole. Laura and Luciano were the perfect hosts and went many extra miles to make our stay a perfect Tuscan experience. Not only did they help us book a fantastic cooking class in nearby Siena, they also offered to drive us to and from Siena so that we would not have to worry about having a few drinks at dinner at the end of the class. On another night, it looked like it might rain and so rather than having us drive out to a restaurant for dinner, Laura and Luciano invited us to join their family for a delicious dinner of homemade ribolitta soup and pizza (the ribolitta was by far and away the best I sampled in Tuscany). All the previous reviews about Laura's cooking are also absolutely true - on another night, they offered us a 4 course meal, accompanied with numerous glasses of delicious local red wines and desert wines, and this was undoubtedly the best meal that we had on our entire 2 week trip in Italy. While we had to pay extra for the dinners, the price was ridiculusly cheap. Breakfast each morning was fantastic with a great variety of offerings including croissants, fruit, cereals, fresh eggs, cakes, cheeses, proscuitto, and yoghurt. In terms of location and setting, their farmhouse is set beautifully in quintissential Tuscan countryside and is also very conveniently situated only 15 min drive outside of Siena and allows easy day trips to all key towns and sites in Tuscany. Their lovely dogs, Luna and Alba, were also super friendly and fun to have around.

Thanks Laura and Luciano for your incredible generosity and kindness. We had an unforgettable experience.

I can not say enough good things about our 4-night stay at Il Canto del Sole. Laura and Luciano are the best hosts ever- very accomodating and willing to bend over backwards for whatever is needed. Breakfast was great- fresh pastries, breads, meats, cheeses, and eggs. Laura cooked two amazing dinners during our stay and Luciano has a great wine selection. Laura made us a fire every evening and it was very relaxing to sit and read here after a long day of touring. Our room and bathroom were clean, large, and comfortable. The location was great! We took day trips to Siena, Montepulciano, Pienza, Pisa, Volterra, Montefollonico, and Bagno Vignale. We love animals, but if you don't, this isn't the place for you. A car and GPS system are a must. This is my favorite B7B of all time and I will definitely be going back!

Hello Readers,
My wife and I went away in October for our first anniversary to Italy and our first stay was with Luciano and Laura at their B&B in Tuscany. From the moment we arrived we knew we were in heaven; From the sweet smell of the flowers, the beautiful countryside views (including Luciano's vineyard and horses), to the warm smiles on our hosts' faces, we knew we had chosen our location well. I go into quite a bit of detail below, and I could write a thousand words more. The bottom line is if you want a beautiful peaceful setting away from home, but feel so at home you don't want to leave - definitely stay at Il Canto Del Sole while in Tuscany.

Basics:
Our room was simple and clean. It had the original wooden cross-beams above us and windows that opened out to let in the cool breeze. The beds - as with everywhere in Italy we experienced - were a bit hard and were really two singles pushed together. All we had to do was ask once and immediately received extra pillows to help make sleeping a bit more comfy. There are a few common areas to relax. There is an outdoor balcony off the area outside the bedrooms, and a pool table and piano downstairs that I thoroughly enjoyed!

The sweet touches:
The two dogs are really gentle and sweet and made us feel like we were home.
The breakfast buffet is delicious as it is, and if you want, Laura will make you a tasty light omlette (I think she sprinkles fresh parmesean on it - soo good!)
Luciano makes his own wine, and if you are lucky he may share it with you. One night we came back from dinner in Siena (only a 10 minute drive north) and he shared some of his dessert wine with us. What a treat!
The decor is countryside homey, and if you are observant, you will see instruments from around the world scattered throughout the house. Ask Laura about them.
One morning our hosts informed us that they would not be serving dinner that night (and we hear dinner is amazing at a small additional charge, totally worth it). They invited us to join them at a dinner in Siena with their district. It was a very unique opportunity and we took it. We ate authentic Sienese food and drank homemade wine, and I watched a little football (aka soccer) with Luciano and his friends. Ask them about "Palio" if you don't know about it already.

Finally, Laura and Luciano were always willing to answer my unending questions, provide recommendations for activities, dining and wine tasting. Although language did pose a little bit of an obstacle, we always managed to figure out what one another was saying. (Recommended - Rick Steve's Italian Phrase Book.)

I hope this review is helpful to you. You may contact me with any questions you may have. Safe and happy travels!

Jeff

All of the superlative reviews of this small B&B are completely justified. When booking the trip I thought the reviews were too good to be true. We were more than surprised when this property met and exceeded our expectations. The Owners were gracious and very helpful with suggestions and recommendations. Make sure to visit the Wednesday market in Siena. Great central location for central and southern hill towns and wineries.

The rooms were the largest we stayed in during our 19 day trip in Italy. Comfortable, clean and airy. This B&B is not for everyone, only those who want to escape the city center hotel scene for tranquil relaxed country living. After 6 days we did not want to leave. Don't let the dirt road to the property scare you, this is a real country setting with all of the benefits of the Tuscan country side. Our $400.00 per night hotel in Santa Margharita was great but not better than Canto Del Sole. Highly recommended, car a must.

  • Liked — Large room, connecting sitting area between two rooms.
  • Disliked — Some bugs due to lack of screens and country side location. They come with the location, just enjoy.

My husband and I just spent 4 wonderful days at Il Canto del Sole. You know that from the minute you arrive you've found heaven. Laura, Luciano, and their son Marco are the most gracious hosts and they treated us like part of the family during our stay there. The room was perfect with amazing views and Laura's food was the BEST we had during our entire trip to Italy.

I say I almost shed a tear when we left was because you can tell Laura and Luciana puts their heart & soul into Il Canto del Sole. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They really do everything to get to know their guests. We really appreciated that. For this reason Il Canto del Sole is by far our favorite place that we have EVER had the pleasure of staying.

We can't wait to go back again someday soon! We said we'd make the trip back to Italy specifically to stay at Il Canto del Sole. Next time it will be for at least a week, probably longer! 4 days wasn't nearly enough time! I can't say enough good things about Il Canto del Sole and Laura and Luciano! It's a treat that they open their home & welcome us with open arms!

The Farmhouse offers 10 rooms, each furnished with the simple furniture originally found in them, which has been carefully restored. The rooms are all very light and airy and offer a complete range of facilities: satellite TV, fridge, bathroom with shower and hair dryer. Both structures are surrounded by around one hectare of shady gardens, immersed in the heart of the crete senesi countryside. We offer our guests: a salt water swimming pool (7 x 14), children's play areas, a barbecue area and a panoramic terrace above our wine cellar, with views over the Val d'Arbia. During the winter, breakfast and dinner are served in a large dining room with a central fireplace, while during the summer, they are served in the external courtyard.A pool table and a selection of games are available to guests in the lemon room, adjacent to the lounge. In addition to cooking, we (Luciano and Laura) are at your complete disposal for any information or suggestions for walks, mountain biking, horse riding and car excursions.
