“Wonderful!”

We stayed here for 5 nights of our honeymoon in August. Great accommodation in a great location with breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside. Rooms were spotless, large in size and well equipped. Pool area and gardens were very nice. Hosts were fantastic. There is a lovely restaurant in the nearby town of monteroni d'arbia which is highly recommended too.

Our stay at San Giovanni in Poggio was fantastic. We stayed in the Vespro apartment which had high quality furnishings and appliances, everything we needed, and is in an unforgettably beautiful and peaceful setting. But the highlight was our gracious and friendly hosts - Francesco and Federico, who spent the time to give us excellent travel recommendations, (winery tour, local cheese farm and restaurants),and also shared their passion for the area - like viewing the red Tuscan moon, listening to the sheep bells gently ringing nearby, and of course Siena! We also ran into a spot of road trouble with a flat tire and Federico meet us at the tire shop to ensure we were well taken care of - another example of hosts who are exceptional. Can't say enough about this charming place, (check out all the great pictures), and would recommend it in a heartbeat! It was the perfect haven from our travels while in a great location to explore the surrounding area. Just wish we had time to stay longer.

If you are searching for a place in Tuscany, look no further and go to San Giovanni in Poggio!

First of all, the renovated farmhouse is absolutely great. It is located on top of a hill in the middle of the beautiful Tuscan countryside. We stayed in the Alba apartment with a terrace with pool view. The apartment has everything you may need, dishwasher, washing machine, wifi, tv and a kitchen. The location is also good, many places can be reached within the hour.

Secondly, the owner Francesco and his assistant Federico are the best. They can help out with anything you need. They know which places to go and even know where in Siena you can park for free. Federico also booked us a nice trip to the country side where we visited a truffle hunter!

This is a great place to stay, there is a reason they only get excellent ratings!

My partner and I stayed here with our toddler and had an absolutely wonderful time. Just look at the pictures. The apartment was lovely - cool despite the heat, great kitchen with proper cooker and gas hob, comfortable bed, attractive and high-quality furniture and fittings - the setting was amazing and the hosts were delightful and extremely helpful. I lost a silver bracelet in the apartment and Francesco very kindly posted it back to me in the UK. Also the pool is fantastic: our daughter learnt to swim in it, it has stunning views of the Tuscan countryside. We will definitely be coming back here.

My wife and I just returned from one awesome week at the San Giovanni in Poggio and rather than repeating previous reviews, I'll focus on three areas that particularly stood out: accommodation, location and hosts.

Accommodation: We stayed in the Meriggio which was the cottage just set off from the other apartments at the San Giovanni. Since it was just my wife and I, I think the cottage was configured as a one bedroom rather than the 2 bedroom shown on the website (I was charged less than usual as a result). The cottage itself was serviceable and clean with a comfortable bed, full kitchen and dishes, but where the San Giovanni really stands apart are the grounds themselves. Set in the midst of the Crete Senese the farm house manages to be both modern and still fit right into the magnificent landscape. The pictures do a great job of capturing the grounds and the scenery, but of course can capture only so much. With Sienna in the distance in one direction and hills and farmhouses as far as the eye can see in the other it feels a bit like a zen oasis with a pool. On the other hand, Monteroni D'Arbia at the foot of the hill [poggio] is still near enough to pick up any essentials you may need while there. And as other reviewers have noted, it is great to wake up to sheep bells every morning.

Location: Located about 20 minutes south of Sienna, I found the San Giovanni in Poggio to be located centrally to a lot of sites in Tuscany. We had rented a car [a must for this type of accommodation] and spent a few days driving to various Tuscan hill towns. Sienna is 20 minutes away, but so is Montalcino, Buonconvento and the Mount Oliveto Abbey. To the south Pienza is about 40 minutes away and Montepulciano and Cortona no more than an hour by car. To the north, San Gimignano is also about 40 minutes away with Florence and Volterra closer to an hour. Combinations of these cities can be strung together to see a 2 or 3 in the same day and these are just the larger towns. Tuscany is littered with towns each as picturesque as the last. And at the San Giovanni most are close enough to explore during the day and get back home from dinner if you'd like [we had dinner in the towns most nights before driving home].

Hosts: Francesco and Frederico were both excellent hosts. Francesco is the owner who bought the farm house 5 years ago and renovated it over 2 years. He has done an excellent job with the renovation and is justly proud of it. He is also goes the extra mile to see that his guests enjoy the property and their stay. For instance, one night he shut off all the property lights at night so we could look up at the sky unobstructed. As a city dweller (San Francisco, CA), it was a fun experience to see so many stars in the sky and actually see the Milky Way for the first time in my life. Frederico is younger and works for Francesco, but is also an excellent host. He prepared some potential itineraries for us when we checked in and was always stopped to talk to us when he was on the property. Also his restaurant recommendations were top notch.

All in all, a very memorable trip and it was only possible b/c of the efforts of Frederico, Francesco and the property itself. Thank you -- it was a lot of fun and I can't recommend it highly enough.

We are a family with two little boys of 6 and 4 and we had the chance to spend 15 days in San Giovanni in Poggio (appartment Meriggio) during the 2013 Summer. What could we say about this place ? Well simply look at the picture: what you see is what you get !!! Magnificient 360° view, quiet place, less than 20 minutes away from the wonderfull city of Siena, with all the confort you could expect... and if something is missing, Francesco and Federico are there and will do their best to get it for you ! This is not only about the place, it's also about the people and definitively Francesco: a person in love with his region that will surely help you discovering his beloved region and city: Siena. This was our fifth stay in the region, but surely the best place to stay !

We spent a wonderful week in San Giovanni in August 2013 with our 3 young kids. Highly recommend this place. Gorgeous setting, nice pool, lovely apartment. Francisco was very helpful, and Federico waited up until the early hours when we were late arriving, which we were very thankful for. Plenty of sights within easy reach. Would love to stay there again.
