My wife and I just spent an amazing 3 days at Poggio Foco. I can't imagine a more romantic setting or a more authentic experience. Highlights:

-Our apartment was very spacious, 2 large bedrooms and bathrooms, very clean. Wi-Fi everywhere, great showers, well equipped kitchen. I got hooked to making myself espressos every morning and sitting outside on the terrace.

- We loved that it was about an hour's drive from Rome and easy to get to. It was a Tuscan experience, without a treacherous drive.

-We loved the freedom this sprawling property offered. From walking in the vineyard, to swimming in the pool, watching the sunset from our favorite location, to watching them bottling, we could do as we please and never felt in the way. It's very warm and casual.

-The owner and family, as well as all the staff, were very gracious, helpful and generous. While the language barrier got in the way at times, they always tried their best and had a great sense of humour about things. We felt like we were family. We lacked for nothing.

-We had a great beach day, only 20 minutes away, on real sand!

-We visited nearby towns of Manciano, Pitigliano and Sovana. They are were all incredibly charming.

Some may be more interested in restaurants, amenities, hip shops and such at their hotel. This place is not for them. There are lots of places for that. This place is about family, warmth, independence, beauty, serenity, authenticity. We found it to be exactly what we needed when we first arrived from our bustling lives with 3 kids in Toronto. We are thrilled we started our Italian trip there (it was followed by 3 days in Amalfi and 4 days in Rome) and decompressed in style. I wouldn't change a thing.

A new Food TV program highlighting the best of Italian food, culture & adventure was hosted at Francesco's vineyard and local restaurants. Amazing!

My favorite experience in Tuscany 100%! The property, food & wine would have been enough to exceed my expectations but the family that welcomes you & is forever helpful in terms of places to go, eat, beach, etc., were so fun! Situated up on a hill, those Tuscan sunsets overlooking the gorgeous vineyard, while sipping impressive wines on site... will stay forever in my mind. Whether you take advantage of the kitchens in the villa and shop near by to their fresh & local markets or dine at the restaurant, you're in for some spectacular food (and ingredients not so easy to find, when you return: fresh sheep ricotta is one!). Very clean, quiet and a short drive to the beach. The local restaurants (and the hosts will help direct you here, to their favorites) are sometimes so casual, I would have driven by. I'm definitely thankful for the restaurant recommendations received by the house. This particular property has something for everyone: if you want peace & quiet, to read a book and swim the afternoons away... it's perfect. If you want to drive to near by tourist & historical locations, the most famous towns are only 30 minutes to 1.5 hours away. Rome is a 1.5 hour train ride away. It's perfect... and I can't wait to go back. If anyone would like to contact me further, I'm happy to answer questions: info@chefnetworkinc.com

Room Tip: Depends on how many are traveling. I stayed in a villa that had one large private room, King size bed and on the other side of the same villa... 2 smaller beds in one room. For our needs, it worked out perfectly and was cost effective.

If you want the real Maremma experience, you must go to Poggio Foco. The family that owns the property are very kind and helpful. Whether you enjoy hiking the area, exploring the etruscan ruins of the Maremma, horseback riding, swimming in the pool, reading a good book, or sampling their delicious food and wine...there's always something to do. Make sure during your stay to take a tour of the farm and their vineyard and winery. One can't help but feel a spiritual presence, it's so peaceful...and the sunsets are amazing. Every Saturday night (and I believe one or two other nights during the week), they prepare the most delicious dinners in their restaurant. Everything is grown on-sight, raised in the area and made from scratch. Fresh vegetables, pasta, cinghiale, cheese and jams, their wine...and if you're lucky a fresh piece of fish caught that morning by Alessandro! They also make their own organic olive oil, in addition to delicious home-made jams and sauces. It really is a special place. I wish I was still there!

Together with another couple, we occupied two self-catering apartments in this delightful (and blissfully remote) working farm with vineyard in SW Tuscany. There are idyllic views of the neighbouring hills from all around the property: rolling countryside, fields, vineyards and in the distance the sea is visible on a very clear day. The farm is about 25 minutes' drive from Manciano, the nearest town, half of this stretch being along secluded and bumpy roads. The free-standing Casetta house where our friends stayed is about 5 minutes' walk from the main house and would be ideal for anyone in search for total solitude and privacy. The Poggio Foco wines are delicious and we much enjoyed our tour of the wine-making facilities. A car is essential if you stay at this farm: to reach it in the first place and then to visit some of the many 'sights' nearby. We stayed in Villa, a two-room apartment in the main complex. The rooms themselves are rather dark (very small windows) doubtless making them cooler in high summer. The lady in charge of bookings, Irenea, was immensely helpful during the booking process and proved a mine of information on places to visit during our stay.
