Fabio's Il Castagno is a real live treasure on the road from Florence and Tuscant to the lovely village of Casola Valsenio. Stop in Palazzuolo, at the border village. Fabio's mushrooms...porcini, and autumn funghi, and truffles. Yes, this is the countryside for dogs who sniff out the treasures called truffles. The porcini pop up in the woods after a rain, and that's really called FRESH!! Fabio speaks English, so you will have no problems ordering. His menu is seasonable because he is surely a product of this land. His family has been there for several hundred years, and you will even see antique grills and family photographs on the walls. I have known Fabio for many years, and a trip to Italy is not complete without a visit to Il Castagno. If you blink you might miss this wonderful place...it is on a road well travelled by road bikes and groups who cycle together. Careful on the curves! My last meal at Il Castagno were several plates of various fall funghi. The pasta is home made as well, and Fabio will serve you the local Albana wine, other local varieties as well as Italian beers and soft drinks. Buon Appetito!! If you do Facebook you can look for Il Castagno/Fabio Prati to see his menu and photos of his offerings at various times of year.
