Il Gavillaccio
Reviewed March 4, 2011

I hadn't been to Italy in 20 plus years. My return to the beautiful country was great. I couldn't have picked a better place - Gavillaccio. I had heard from one other person about this serene mountainous place that overlooked the Figline countryside. I wanted to check it out with my companion. Lovely place. The pool area is massive and peaceful. The owner was gracious and professional. Whenever we needed something or had a question, she was always available. Very clean, internet service was good, apartments were comfortable and attractive, and we were able to travel on tours to see the countryside nearby (wine tour, honey and olive oil tour). Absolutely worth it!

We visited Il Gavillaccio in September. The first days we enjoyed our vacation but on Friday our family and friends arrived for our wedding.

The location lies on the top of a hill and has a beautiful view over the Chianti area. From the pool area you can see the whole valley. There is a gardener who makes sure the place looks perfect.

The owner is from the USA and speak perfect English and Italian. She was the best help during the wedding but also during the organization.
Mrs. Currie makes sure you feel at home and knows how to work with Italian. She knows what quality is and only wanted the best for us and our guests. She was very involved.

The apartments are very clean and have enough space and look good. A big plus is also that all the apartments are equipped with the basic needs such as; salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, coffee and tea.

Perfect location for a good holiday and wedding.

Make sure you have a car, because it is on the country side and the nearest supermarket is a 5-10 minutes drive.

The location is also perfect for trips to Siena, Arrezzo and Florence.

If our marriage will be as good as our wedding at Il Gavillaccio.....than we are looking forward for the years to come. :-)

Il Gavillacio is a great location to enjoy your holidays in Italia. It is located in a small city named Gaville and it takes up to 30 minutes by train to the city center of Florence. The location and surrounding is fantastic! The appartments are very nice and clean, from the swimming pool you have the best view as well as from the appartments. You would need a car to drive up to the appartments, but that comes also in handy if you want to drive by all the beautiful wineyards and nature in the neighbourhood.

Il Gavillacccio is a little slice of heaven up high in the Chianti Hills the panoramic views of the vineyards and hills are spectacular. Lorna has extremely high standards and the accommodation, pool, paths and gardens are immaculate making it the most enjoyable, peaceful place to spend the day by the pool.
The property is quite isolated so you need a car to get about but it is the perfect base for exploring all that Chianti has to offer. You can take a short afternoon trip to Florence, Sienna or San Gimignano so that you can take some time to enjoy the stunning views from the poolside back at Gavillaccio too.
The kitchen facilities in the apartments are excellent so self catering is a breeze but there are many excellent restaurants within a short drive to enjoy. There is a small shop for daily bread and essentials just a short walk away but local market and supermarkets in Figline are just a 5-10 minute drive.
We have returned to Il Gavillaccio several times since 2003 and intend to return next summer to get our fix of the peace and tranquility of the Tuscan hills.

The flat was big and spacy so that all of us (we are five) had plenty of room. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed cooking there - one of our interests. We came to enjoy the culture of Tuscany (I have a MA in latin and ancient civilization) and relaxe. The terrase and the pool made us relaxe, Tuscany offered the culture, and Lorna was of great help whenever it was needed. We stayed two weeks and in the second we celebrated the double anniversaries of my parents in law. Lorna made an aggreement with a high quality restaurant that we would never had found ourselves and fixed a price that was really favourable. If we go to Tuscany some other time, and we probably will, I think we would ask Lorna for a flat in Il Gavillaccio again. Feel free to contact us if you want to know more, s@hindsholm.dk

I stayed in this villa just two nights, but it was a disappointment, although I think there should be a big diference regardling the month you travel. First because the orientation of the sun is bad : the sun only comes in the afternoon and in October is quite cold. In the morning you don´t get any sun. The pool is nice but you can´t use it. It is a bit far from Siena and I prefer in this case places closer than cities. But the worst thing in this place is the indifference of the owner that was only worried about the bill : she offered us the breakfast but the only thing she did was putting some industrial croissants and jam, and some milk just for one day. Meanwile in the entrance of the apartment you have a nice Chianti wine, a tradicional cake and a tradicional jam, but with the prices below....Finally, you have to pay the heating separetly and son on.
Well, it is a nice place in a wonderful region, but without a welcoming like Tuscany people do. The owner is an american....so you have the explanation.

My partner and I searched the Internet for suitable accommodation in Tuscany to host our wedding, after finding the Gavillaccio website and contacting the owner we knew it was perfect for the occasion.
The owner àrranged every aspect of our wedding, from the paperwork required to be married abroad right down to printing the menus for the reception.
All our guests had a wonderful time and commented on the beautiful accomadation and its surrondings. Anything requested by ourselves or our guests was quickly attended to.
We would fully recommend this accommodation.
