I stayed in this villa just two nights, but it was a disappointment, although I think there should be a big diference regardling the month you travel. First because the orientation of the sun is bad : the sun only comes in the afternoon and in October is quite cold. In the morning you don´t get any sun. The pool is nice but you can´t use it. It is a bit far from Siena and I prefer in this case places closer than cities. But the worst thing in this place is the indifference of the owner that was only worried about the bill : she offered us the breakfast but the only thing she did was putting some industrial croissants and jam, and some milk just for one day. Meanwile in the entrance of the apartment you have a nice Chianti wine, a tradicional cake and a tradicional jam, but with the prices below....Finally, you have to pay the heating separetly and son on.
Well, it is a nice place in a wonderful region, but without a welcoming like Tuscany people do. The owner is an american....so you have the explanation.

My partner and I searched the Internet for suitable accommodation in Tuscany to host our wedding, after finding the Gavillaccio website and contacting the owner we knew it was perfect for the occasion.
The owner àrranged every aspect of our wedding, from the paperwork required to be married abroad right down to printing the menus for the reception.
All our guests had a wonderful time and commented on the beautiful accomadation and its surrondings. Anything requested by ourselves or our guests was quickly attended to.
We would fully recommend this accommodation.

Il Gavillaccio is situated in one of the most beautiful areas of Tuscany, it sits atop a hill that has the most breathtaking views. Simply because of the stunning natural surroundings, this is place we chose to have our lunchtime wedding reception. I also organised a week's stay for my family at Il Gavillaccio, where we also stayed for two nights.

In terms of the apartments, my family stayed in a lovely, beautifully decorated two storey apartment (no 8) with a garden/terrace, two bathrooms and stunning views from the bedroom windows. It had all the comforts you could imagine, including a full kitchen with dishwasher, tv with satellite, dvd player that plays all region dvds and wireless. My whole family thought they were in paradise.

It's true that the place is out of the way and in the middle of nowhere, but luckily we were there with a car to get groceries from the nearby town of Figline (they have a supermarket open on Sundays too). This helps if you plan on staying for a while in these apartments - a car in general is a good idea as well if you want to take advantage of the perfect position of being able to explore the Chianti region. The gorgeous towns of Panzano, Greve, Arezzo and Siena are nearby, as is Florence. The plus of it being in the middle of nowhere is simply how stunningly peaceful it is. If you're not into the tourist-hell that Florence for example is, then Gavillaccio is a great choice. My family were able to relax by the pool in the mornings and go on walks around the countryside then come in every day on the train to Florence for sightseeing/dinner and still get the best of both worlds.

Organising a wedding reception is another thing. We did it on our own instead of having Lorna, the owner, help us out, and found that most things went very smoothly. Our guests absolutely loved the venue, which was perfectly suited to our group of 65 people (there was a pavilion and then the swimming pool area). There is plenty of parking space, and also on all different levels so that people who can't walk far don't have to. There is also a small outdoor kitchen which helped for preparing the buffet. The only thing I could really complain about was that someone stole the top of our wedding cake that I'd left in the downstairs fridge because there wasn't room in the apartment one!

I think it's great value for the spectacular views and comforts of the apartments. You would never find anything like this in nearby Florence. Do think of it as if you are on your own though, because you're really left to your own defenses in this place - don't expect the management to be there at any time of the day to help you with something. So if you're independent, have your own car, and are do not need to rely on the services that a concierge in a hotel might have, then this place is really great.

One tip: it gets cold here in the cooler months, as it's quite high up in the hills and is significantly cooler than Florence! So for summer that's great, for winter, you might want to rug up! Or get one of the apartments with a fireplace!

I've stayed here for over two weeks. It's a beautiful property and the area is quite nice. It's in the middle of nowhere, so you need to be willing to drive about 15-20 minutes to the supermarket. The apartments do not come with basic kitchen necessities (like olive oil) nor with a full supply of toilet paper (if you are staying more than a few days) so you will have to go out and stock up upon arrival. If you arrive on the weekend, plan ahead since stores close early on Sat and are closed on Sun.

Half of the apartments are quite a distance (an uphill climb) from the parking lot, so just be sure that you understand which apartment you are getting and whether you will have to carry your bags and your groceries a distance. Don't expect help from the owner; your bags are your own responsibility. This is quite typical for many small places in Italy.

The views are breathtaking and there is much to recommend a visit here; however, I caution potential guests. The owner allowed us to book the only available room when the rest of the place was booked for a wedding. That meant that the pool was off limits to us for a day and that we didn't get the usual pleasure of meeting other guests since they were off to themselves. (They were also a group of loud young people, so it wasn't very pleasant.)

Last, the owner misrepresented the apartment to us in email so that we were not aware that we'd have a (hotter than the sun) sleep loft in the midst of August, instead of a normal bedroom. The shade on the skylight was broken, intensifying the problem. The tv did not work and it was clear that it had not worked all summer. We left early, but we gave the owner plenty of time to re-book our apartment. It was high season and there should not have been a problem. However, she still charged us for the full amount even despite the fact that she misrepresented the apartment and did not tell us that there would be a wedding party there all week.

Bottomline: beautiful place with stunning views but an aloof owner who does not provide the kind of hospitality that you can find at other properties. After months of travel in Italy, this was the only bad experience we had. Beware.
