“Lovely place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

This is a lovely place though small. But we still enjoyed it. Some cages could be bigger and animals could be given more toys and be more equipped but everything is kept very clean with high standards. Cafeteria is also good with a nice selection of sweets and food. Entrance is €8 per adult and €5 per child (up to 11yrs) with a €22 family pack (2+2). The birds are just wonderful. Pity one cannot purchase food for the birds/animals though I understand that would require monitoring. One negative point is the road leading in and out of the place. Saying its state is horrific is an understatement and one needs to be careful to try and avoid (not always possible) the craters (you cannot call them holes) in the road. A shame really and the government would do well to support this private initiative by fixing the disgraceful road. It is an embarassement and I shudder to think what the tourists and Maltese alike think as they pass through it.

“Need more of these places in Malta!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

We visited the bird park today together with our 4 year old and really enjoyed it. The owners are really dedicated and this can be seen in the passion when talking about the birds during the guided tours. The only thing I would comment is that the background music was a bit too loud in certain areas. However, this can be arranged easily. I have been to many zoos and parks overseas and have to say that this park is a first in Malta which really lives up to high standards. Have read a comment about the meerkat, with which I have to agree. These animals tend to live in communities, however the one we saw was all alone. I don't know maybe the others could not be seen at the moment we passed. Having said that, this park is just lovely and very well kept. They serve good coffee at the cafeteria at a very reasonable price. The only thing that needs to be arranged (which has nothing to do with the park itself) is the road leading to it. Keep it up.

“Loved every minute of it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

We visited Birdpark for Mother's Day and loved every minute of it! From seeing the animals to the general atmosphere, the place is great. Join a guided tour for maximum appreciation. The restaurant on site also offers a good (if slightly pricey) choice of food and light snacks.

“Needs a lot of improvement”

I visited this park today and was surprised to see the good reviews on here. No doubt set up with good intent I found the monkey cages lacked any enrichment, greys and macaws with water or toys, the poor burmese python had no rest from constant handling, some of the birds had totally inappropriate caging. Owls tethered for kids to handle un supervised. I found the pond and aviary was over crowded housing way too many birds, One merecat was kept in an enclosure alone with the only hiding place a dirty covered litter tray (it's toilet), Over all while one or two aviaries were set up well, the majority were not. Two poor owl were housed next to a speaker blaring out music all day. This was more bird hell then bird park. Sad to see how poor the welfare standards are here when it is advertised as a conservation project. Would recommend avoiding the place.

“Nicely laid out but hard to find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2012

We visited the Bird Park today and had a very enjoyable time.
Getting to it took a little research as we don't have a car. We took the 12 bus from Gzira where we are staying and got off at Salini 2 bus stop (there are no signs at the stop - we went past it the first time and saw the signs down the road and took the next one back!!) Its about 250 metres or so from the Salini 2 stop further down the road and there is a small green sign on the left hand side pointing down a bumpy road to where it is.
The park has a very nice clean cafe with cool aircon and toilets (with nappy facilities for those of us with babies which was good).
It is fairly small but has a great variety of birds which you can get really close to. I would say that if you had kids that they would really enjoy this.
If we were planning a day out again we would go there in the morning, then get the next 12 bus onwards to St Pauls Bay/Bugibba for the afternoon.
