“Worthwhile but Complicated Tour Guide System”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

A 40 minute train ride from Hlavni main railway station in Prague, a train departs every half hour to Karlstejn. The trains are clean and punctual. The guided tours, in more than one language, are confusing and you may be better to pre book your timed tickets beforehand via their website. The problem is that there are 2 different tours departing at different times, in different languages! we took Tour I but fell cheated when it didn't include the main tower. Tour II covers this but we would have had to waited a long time on a rainy day to take this one. Having said that, the castle is magnificent and oozes history. The uphill walk from the station takes 40 mins. Don't be tempted to take a taxi. The long route it took indirectly to the castle was expensive. The walk back down through the village was great, with lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and craft shops en route. Great day out.

“Medeival castle with authentic interiors”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

For the one who never've been to the real medieval castle before it was an exprience to have and remember. Besides the genuine thick stone ancients walls, deepest well, authentic wall there is some special romantic sence about the King and his four wives who lived there.

Would be excellent if it was not so tricky to reach it. If you are going by car be careful since the signs are not so clear and it seems you need to leave your car and walk some distance. ( be careful especially if you don't speak Czech since there are no signs in english. Do not enter forest since fine is 25k korons there...
On the other hand you can drive almost directly into castle but better have engagement rings prepared since you wont get fined if you get married there:D
As for the castle itself it was quite interesting, you are not able to enter without buying full ticket but tour guide was really good and you can count for some special.
When you get tired there is restaurant below the castle with good food with affordable price.

“Magnificent castle”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

This is really a magnificent castle and it offers extremely picturesque views from the castle ramparts. Tours are offered guided and not, although the guided tours will show you more of the castle and other artifacts while the unguided tour will allow you to tour much of the castle grounds but not the inside any rooms. They are offered in Czech as well as English and are not very expensive and I do recommend taking a guided tour as many of the rooms and artifacts are very well preserved and the guides are very informed and speak good English. The views form the castle ramparts and walls offer spectacular vistas of the surrounding area and on a clear day one can see for many miles. There are two ways to approach the castle. You can travel up a back way which gives you a steep but not strenuous climb up through some wooded hills or the popular route which is up through the main street in town all the way up a steep hill and up the final part on a walking path. You might need to take a breather if you choose this route but it offers many shops and restaurants to browse. I have been here on two different occasions, once by train from Praha and the other by car on my way back into Praha. The train ride is a short and pleasant trip that gives you a chance to see the countryside and that I recommend. Tons of history and quite a lovely town to visit.

“Karlstejn 40 minutes from Prague”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

One of the most popular attraction in Czech Republic. Good accessibility by train from Prague main railway station. The train journey takes 40 minutes. Attention hotels are more expensive than usual in this field.
