Stayed for only one night. Harar is charming and fascinating, and so is the area of Amir's, situated close to the eastern wall of the old city. The guesthouse is enclosed by high walls, as is common in Harar.

The three rooms are all very basic, and typical of the Harar guest houses. What is the disappointing part is the bathroom, located outside of the main building. Very, very basic, and not very clean. In this part of Ethiopia, you can't mesure things by european standards, but this bathroom was the worst on our trip to Ethiopia.

On the upside; it's fascinating to hear the hyenas grunt and growl in the African night:-)

If you want to spend some times in Ethiopia don't miss the wonderful city of Harar. Amir is the best man in town, in his cozy house you will find peace and relax and at the same time you will find a perfect cultural guide in one of the holiest cities of the horn of Africa. Enjoy..this experience's strictly recommended!!!

Amir is a top quality tour guide and translator. He is a man of culture, knows many local languages plus a perfect english and french. He is a well respected figure in the local community and can open any door for you in Harar and the surrounding areas including dire dawa, jigjiga and beyond. I had an amazing time there with him, even simply enjoying sitting in his traditional house chatting with him and his friends, and getting acquainted with the history of the place and its peoples. I'd recommend not to trust the many hasslers at Harar's bus station but call him and arrange an appointment to get to know him. I had his contact from a friend and I can say it was definitely worth it.
