Waveney House Hotel

This hotel lies beside the River Waveney and is very quiet and peaceful. We used it as a base to explore the area and it was clean, tidy and the staff were very enthusiastic and helpful. Beccles is a small but quaint town, and very old with some lovely very old buildings, and just the place if you want to just relax in quiet surroundings.

For anyone going there the hotel does take a bit of finding, although it is near the town centre. The best route would be to head for the very centre of town, and find what seems to be where the buses all stop. At the bottom of this, towards the left, is a narrow lane tucked away and this eventually leads to the hotel.

Stayed at Waveney House for a long weekend. It is a lovely hotel let down by poor staffing. We stayed in the most expensive suite in the hotel which overlooked the river. Unfortunately the view was blighted by unclean windows covered in spiders webs. The room was overwise nice but the lack of hot water in the bath was a problem. We complained about this twice but to no avail! Breakfast service took nearly an hour on our first day however this did improve. The reception desk was never manned and you had to ring a phone number for attention.

Sadly the weather did not permit enjoying the extensive riverside outdoor drinking and eating area.
The bedroom was way up in the attic and a bit quirky with its beam targeted at your head - i suspect it was not their best one. Breakfast was fine and did not comprise the all too frequent "hot buffet" of leathery bacon etc.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the ground or first floor

What a lovely place. Large nice patio next to the river. Good choice of drinks and food was very good too. Staff were friendly and good to see plenty of them. It was pleasing to see there were lots of tables outside. I had burger and chips which was top quality. Others had fish and chips

The room in the hotel was lovely located on the top floor with a lovely view of the river, and the bar/ restaurant located right on the water and the food was great! The staff were friendly and the room clean.
Bit pricey but would still recommend!

Stayed here just the one night on a recent cycling tour. Very efficient welcome, all ready to store bikes and welcome us. We ate both evening and breakfast in the hotel bar/restaurant. Two young guys served , were really professional but friendly and helpful too.
Room was great. I will visit again. Sitting in the concervatory bar/restaurant for a drink and meal was a pleasure. Great view out to the river and boats there on.

Room Tip: I was in room 2. A tad awkward to get through a small lobby to access the room. Small price to pay f...

This place should be a gem, but instead struggles to cope with any volume of customers. On this occasion they 'kindly' opened the restaurant but it was freezing. Food was better than on previous visits but not outstanding.
