This hotel didn't disappoint being the sister to villa d'este which is the best
All rooms are large and exquisite lay furnished
We got a large bowl of fruit on arrival and 2 pots of marmalade on departure
Giancarlo the manager was very friendly and took the time to introduce himself and chat
The reception staff were all charming

The hotel itself us 4 miles outside florence and they have an hourly bus service
Sitting by the lake sipping cocktail after a busy day sightseeing or shopping is heaven

Room Tip: All as good as each other Worth getting a suite

This lovely property is on the Arno a few miles outside the center of Florence. They have a shuttle in to to Florence which is really convenient. The property is in a scenic spot but yet close to everything.
The dining staff is delightful. Excellent breakfast each morning in a glorious setting. We stayed in the building that was right on the river and not the main building which housed some lovely suites.

A must when going to Florence.

Room Tip: A junior suite in the building by the river.

We wanted to say a special thank you to Tara and all the staff at Villa La Massa for making our honeymoon stay the most romantic ever.
Villa La Massa is a perfect quiet retreat for all who want to get away from it all. Waking up to the Tuscan countryside and being beside the River Arno was really quite something
The food at the Verrochio restaurant within Villa La Massa was just devine and we highly recommend the Florentina steak. It just melted in your mouth. Vito gave us some interesting facts about Chianti at our wine tasting experience in the cellars which was just great.
Then the pierre de resistance is the shuttle bus that tos and fros at regular intervals from the hotel to Florence and is only a 20 minute ride and you are there in the thick of it. Lots of Trattorias in the nooks and crannies and piazza’s to sit and have coffee and watch the world go by. Capucinno at Gillet in Piazza Republic is a must and one of the oldest coffee shops in Italy!
We are definitely going to plan another trip to Villa La Massa for our first anniversary!

Room Tip: Myself and Audrey stayed in the Presidential suite at Villa la Massa and were taken by the views and...

Having had a less than pleasant experience at our last hotel, moving on to Villa Massa was the perfect remedy. The staff, the location by the river and the quiet professionalism of the place makes everything very relaxing. We had a lovely room right beside the river. The food was excellent (but not cheap by any means!) and I was sad when our stay came to an end. Angelo in the bar is a delight and the restaurant staff are friendly and efficient. We shall return!

Room Tip: Our room was 54 and was lovely

What a wonderful vacation we had at Villa La Massa. It’s a luxurious but very comfortable hotel. Our junior suite was roomy with a lovely view of the Arno and countryside. The manager Giancarlo and his staff were professional yet charming, friendly and helpful. The location is great. The shuttle van makes it so easy to go into Florence. It’s also close to the autostrada if you want to go touring around the area. Or just sitting by the pool is also a great option. We look forward to returning.

We staid at the property in June and enjoyed our stay very much. What we liked in particular:

1) The location: The hotel is located outside Florence, on very large, well-kept grounds, bordering the river Arno. A shuttle bus into town operates hourly. We found the location quite ideal. It is convenient for exploring Florence, but after a day of sightseeing and crowds of tourists, you retreat into the calm and spend the rest of the afternoon lounging in the hotel garden.

2) General ambiance: The hotel building dates back to the 16th century, and breathes history. Everything feels authentic.

3) Service: Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. For example, they provided very good shopping tips for Florence. Also, they made a very nice present to our baby daughter (stuffed animal).

4) Food: The on-site restaurant has a very nice terrace with views of the river. The food is classic (e.g., stuffed zucchini blossoms, beef with red wine sauce), and of very high quality. Yes, it is quite pricey (count around 200 EUR for a dinner for a couple, including wines by the glass), but we felt it was reasonable given the quality.

Suggestions for improvement: Nothing really. Maybe two things
1) Be aware that the location is suburban, not the remote countryside. This means that you might see some power supply lines, or hear a commuter train in the distance from time to time. Also, there is nothing to do in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. You need the shuttle bus (or a taxi, or a rental car). For us, the location was ideal, but it depends on what you want.
2) There was one unfortunate incident at the restaurant. I had ordered a bottle of wine. The waiter came back and proceeded to open the bottle, and only when he noticed that I was looking at the label with a suprised look, he told me that the wine I had ordered was out. The one he had brought instead, however, was about 3 times the price of the one I had originally ordered. I knew this wine, and I remembered its price from the wine list, and I decided to go for it anyway. However, in case I had just discovered the price difference on the bill, I would have likely been very upset. The waiter should have made an alternative suggestion in the same price range of the wine I had originally ordered, and at the very least should have very clearly told me that the wine he had brought was much more expensive. Anyway, this was a very isolated incident not representative of the overall quality of the service, and thus did not spoil the experience.

In summary, I can only recommend this property. Would very much like to return.

Beautiful relaxing property apparently an ex Medici palace but maintained in really good condition. We had a good sized room. Nice staff and good service. Great quiet base to visit Florence from with a mini bus service during the day and early evening.
