“Home away from home in Tuscany”
Reviewed January 28, 2008

Oh yes, did we have a great break at le Civette!

The converted farmhouse is only 15 minutes with car (there is also a bus line around the corner) from the Arno and downtown Florence, but feels light-years away in the tranquil countryside with cypresses, olive trees and stone houses dotting a landscape so beautiful it`s almost nauseating.

Travelling with small children, the apartment was ideal for a rest in between our many tours of Florence, the Boboli gardens and all the idyllic small villages around. We picked up culinary treats from the friendly locals and cooked up a few decent dishes in the apartment while the children explored the beautiful fenced-in garden.

We are very happy to have found our tuscan home away from home and are already looking forward to our next visit in spring so we can check out the inviting pool as well..

I thought I was a pretty good researcher but didn't find this beautiful hideaway on the internet. It was through a referral from a nearby bed and breakfast. We were blown away by the beauty of the grounds and the hospitality of Marco and Cecilia. This was by far the best and most intimate location that we stayed at on tour of Italy. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, you can borrow the bicycle to explore the neighborhood and Florence is just a few minutes away by car.

Our family has recently returned after spending a glorious week at Le Civette. The Villa is magnificent situated along olive groves and vineyards. We have never experienced such incredible service before. Marco (the owner) and his fiancee Cecilia could not have been more gracious and accommodating to our family especially our children (9 and 6). The atmosphere was divine.
Our apartment was pristine , the gardens beautiful, and the area around the pool over-looking the Tuscan country side breath-taking. We enjoyed breakfast with fruit, pastries and of course cappuccino

Marco provided all the information we needed including a GPS for the car. Every restaurant he recommended was a gem and was not discovered by other tourists!

After taking trips to Pisa, Siena and many to Florence, we couldn't wait to get back to the peace and tranquility of Le Civette and take a dip in the pool and for me a message.

Overall I would say this was the best experience we have ever had. If you are looking for a family friendly place, only a short distance to the center of Florence, this is the place for you. We are already planning for our return next summer.

I am delighted to write about my wonderful experience at Le Civette. I have travelled all around Europe but nowhere have I experienced the care and attention I received there. Marco, my host, was most attentive to my needs and went so far as to come out on a meal with me! He advised me on places to visit and local customs and generally 'smoothed out' the little difficulties I'm sure we've all experienced when trying to find our way around, and understand, a new place. The place itselt was beautifully arranged, a converted farmhouse building amidst a working Tuscan agricultural farm. But it was high class. Marco really knows what descerning visitors want. The attention to little details like the room design was superb. There were several moments, surveying the magnificent Tuscan countryside, when I wondered how good heaven must be...then I came back to reality by dipping into the pool. It was near the delights of Florence but idyllically peaceful in the countryside. You won't regret this choosing this place.

I was looking for something different instead of an impersonal hotel , something with a high standard quality and services.

A friend of mine told me about this new resort just out of Florence and it was really a great experience.

It has become immediately my favourite place in Tuscany! There's no comment able to describe the beauty and the atmoshere you can experience there.

All hotels provide you a room. If you are paying a price you usually get a nice room in which you would like to hang out. Some hotels are known for their impeccable service. There, you pay an even higher price. What Le Civette provides is a quality apartment ( much more than just a room ) and impeccable personal service to their guests at a very reasonable rate. In a locale like Florence ( Firenze ) it is so luxurious to come back to a place that feels like home after a long day driving in the gorgeous Tuscan countryside or walking the historic streets of this Renaissance city. If you like ( as we did most of the time ) at Le Civette, you can prepare your own meals from what you have gathered at the local markets or supermarket. The grounds are so lovely ( including a pool ) that some days you don't even want to leave.....that is if you stay for two weeks as we did. I could not have been more pleased with a place to rest my head at night or for an afternoon nap than Le Civette. And last but not hardly least, the owners and staff are simply wonderful people.

Florence is one of our favourite places to visit. For years we would rent an apt. in the center . However, the increasingly hot, uncomfortable summers -a young tween who wanted a Pool - a husband who wanted air-conditioning ,and inter-net ,prompted us to try an alternative. We had heard of Le Civette and decided to give it a try.
We found our stay there delightful!! Le Civette is in the countryside, surrounded by olive trees and breathtaking vistas of the Tuscan countryside. Therefore it is cooler and the air is fresh and perfumed. As it is enclosed, families are able to relax and children are free to play with the other children they meet there. (We parents found this to be a great plus.) We were free to relax in our private garden area or , in my husband's case, loll in a hammock in the shade of the trees. Hours were spent by the pool where swallows glide by,and pool gear-inflatable rings, floats, etc. were all thoughtfully provided. There is a lovely covered barbeque area where we would all pool our bounty and chat into the late hours over tuscan wines. In addition to the very well equipped kitchens, there is a bright, welcoming communal kitchen area where fresh produce from Le Civette is provided for the benefit of the guests. A big plus, is the sunday morning breakfast with florentine specialties-puddings, omelets, cakes, homemade jams-absolutely wonderful.Le Civette is bliss .We would heartily recommend it . Close to Florence , immaculate grounds and modern appartments,well-equipped,with all the benefits of being in the country. Close by there is a golfing, horseback riding, and the thermal spas.
We were well looked after. Our hosts were warm, discreet and unobtrusive. Thanks to their help and suggestions, we made several delightful excursions and made wonderful discoveries. I hope this is helpful, especially to families who face our dilemna of wanting to have a lovely holiday while keeping the children happy. For us, Le Civette delivered on all counts and in so many more ways than we could have imagined. After more than 20 years of having spent a considerable amount of time in Florence-this says quite a lot. No matter what time of year, when visiting Florence , we will make our way back to the heavenly Le Civette, nestled in the hills of Florence.

  • Liked — The beautiful grounds, the family and pet friendly environment, the conviviality7kindness of hosts.
  • Disliked — Le Civette more than met our expectations.
