“The Tuscan Experience”
Reviewed July 27, 2008

We really enoyed Gulio's accommodations and recommendations in the hills of Florence. He was a wonderful help with wine tours as well as providing a great experience at his bed and breakfast for us. My wife and I were very pleased. We're pretty picky, as we know Tuscan flavors and culture; his help went above and beyond traditional Italian hospitality.

On a side note, if you're looking for a "base" of sorts to stay while spending the day in Florence, this is a great place to be. You can either rent a car or take public transportation into the city, or to other spots like Fiesole from here.

  • Liked — The quaint atmosphere and stunning views of Florence were incredible.
  • Disliked — Nothing Really. It was just a wonderful experience alltogether.

La Limonia was a FANTASTIC experience! Giulio and Christina are wonderful! Extremely friendly and welcoming. you are part of their family from the moment you walk in the door and added to their every growing extended family they continue to grow as more and more guest stay and play with them as we all learn and love the Italian culture and tradition!

make sure to take Giulio up on one or more of their Tuscan "Experiences" to learn how to cook traditional pasta sauces or tasting wine and driving around the Tuscan country side as he explains history and introduces you to a few of his friends.

I would absolutely recommend La Limonia for anyone traveling in and around Florence (Firenze) and the Tusca region. This was a perfect place to stay and base our selves to enjoy both the city and the hills.

The Italian experience is all about the people. Friendly and welcoming, passionate about life, food, wine, friends and family. That is the experience you get at La Limonaia, where you are greeted for the first time like you have just returned from being away, with a glass of wine and some delicious little somethings while they get to know you. From there the experience unfolds and you find that you are doing spice tastings, running down the rows of the vineyards in a Land Rover up hills that take you to exquisite views, that you are hanging for hours on the stone wall waiting to see the sun set over the Duomo in Florence in the distance with a glass of red and some local cheeses, that you are anticipating the cooking class tonight and the day trip tomorrow. You sit up talking until late at night on every subject around the heavy wood dinner table learning and laughing. You tuck in at night with real embroidered linen sheets and listen to almost nothing - look out the wood shuttered windows and see the lightening bugs light up the olive groves. But in the end, it is always for us the people, and Giulio and Christine are the kind of generous, loving people that we would like to hang out with and invite to our house for a long weekend so we could do it again.

What can you say about La Limonaia that has not been said already in all its glowing reviews. Simply, that Giulio and Christina have created a Tuscan experience that is the best at what it does. Whether it's the postcard setting among the olive trees overlooking Florence or the sauce class or the saffon tour to San Gimigiano; all details are exceptionally taken care of. If you're looking to experience Tuscany, La Limonaia is the only place I would consider. Yes, we usually stay either in top rated B&B's or 4-5* hotels. This is an experience with wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.

We stayed at La Limonaia in May for our honeymoon, and it was a wonderful experience. We traveled throughout France and Italy using TripAdvisor to guide us to the best B&B's. We undoubtedly chose La Limonaia as our favorite. The reasons that we loved La Limonaia were the location, the view, the food, and finally the hospitality.

La Limonaia was perfectly situated in the hills outside of Florence. It had very easy access to public transportation and a direct 10-minute bus ride to Florence. It was nice to get away from the other tourists, traffic, and noise.

With the location in the hillsides of Florence, the view from the B&B was breathtaking. We spent one evening drinking wine and admiring the view. It overlooked olive trees, a nearby church, and Florence itself.

Aside from the location and view, we really enjoyed the food and wine experience prepared by Guilio and Christina. As food connoisseurs, we really appreciated their passion in preparing our meals from the welcoming appertif to the morning breakfast to our 3-course dinner. We savored every morsel that we put into our mouths. This was a true Tuscan experience!

To tie everything up, our visit wouldn't have been spectacular if we didn't have such great hospitality. Guilio and Christina were so welcoming and such great hosts! They welcomed us with open arms.

We will definitely be back again and also look forward to going to their B&B that they plan to open in Sardinia!

Our stay at La Limonaia in May 2008 was absolutely wonderful. We stayed for 7 nights and enjoyed every moment of our time here. Giulio and Cristina were such gracious hosts and provided such a beautiful setting for our Tuscan vacation. They helped us each day with directions and gave great advice on places to visit and things to do right down to exactly where we could purchase tickets to an exciting Italian soccer match! The room was spacious and right out of a Tuscan movie. La Limonaia is set in a perfect location - we felt far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city but we were close enough to go into Florence most days and take day trips to other beautiful towns such as Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa and Venice. It was a perfect spot to stay for a week and still get to experience everything that Tuscany and its surroundings have to offer. The breakfast each morning was delicious and the small town down the road is quaint and beautiful. There are not enough positive things to say about our experience!

If you are looking for a truly unique and one-of-a-kind experience in the Tuscan region, then you need to stay here. The hosts Giulio and Christina are fantastic (and the breakfasts each morning were the best meals we had throughout our 2 week trip through Italy). The rooms are HUGE and the view of the city is breathtaking.
We did two different wine experiences and the saffron experience with Giulio. I could write a book about each, but to sum them all up, these are very personal tours/experiences that you CANNOT get with any sort of group or typical large named tours. These experiences truly immerse you in the Tuscan country side and culture and made our trip unique. The things you get to experience during these excursions are truly due to staying with people that have lived there and know people.
If you want more information, go to there website; there is a contact in the US you can speak with that has taken all of the experiences and can provide extensive feedback on each.
We will definitely return!
