We drove twenty minutes from the place we were staying to find this restaurant upon a suggestion of a friend and it was really worth the ride.

The ambiance is lovely, a place out of time run by a lovely family.

Nothing fancy, no nouvelle, reinvented or revisited cuisine, rather good old recipes, top quality ingredients and a lot of history behind it all.

We really enjoyed our meal and the service. The steak, the best we've had in a very long time!

We were taken to this restaurant by friends and relatives on our last day of our vacation in Florence. They were regular customers and described the quality of the food superb.

We were not disappointed, the restaurant was typical of the Country side simply but nicely decorated.
The owner welcomed us on arrival and made every one feel welcome with a very nice smile and shake of hands and kisses for those she new better.

Our friends wanted us to try most dishes on the menu, so they decided to have a vast selection from different type of pasta to fish and meats.

Home made ravioli stuffed with Sea Bass, others with game,. my vegtarian partner was presented with nice tagliatelle with artichokes; other pasta followed. The to the main course. mix fried fish, King prawns in a light batter that only Italian and Japanese can made (I am not a lover of prawns but this made me convert to eating them), calamari and few other kind of fish, then I was presented with a selection of fried rabbit, calfs brain chicken and vegetables, Baccala (Cod preserved under salt) in a light tomato with a touch of chilly, so beautifully cooked. My partner instead was given a Porcini Mushroom timbal and grilled vegetable.

Dessert, I opted for a melting choccolate individual cake, some cantucci with Vin Santo, other had apple pie and pear flans.

The whoole experience was something to remember a dream!.

No Master Chef decorations or portions here, but a well cooked meal using only the best ingredients with very balance flavours, typical of the region with a modern accent, beautifully presented .

It is a pity I live so far away

If you go to Florence do not miss the place, you may need to hire a car but I am sure there are public transports

I do not know the cost of the meal because we were taken there and had little chance to look at the menu, but at a quick glance not terribly expensive

Unfortunately when an Italian restaurant has the menu translated into english GENERALLY it is frequented by too many tourists and as they are often non-return customers the food/service is poor - Trattoria Donnini is unfortunately a typical example. The second course meals were served with the first courses, meals didn't arrive and were required to be re-ordered and it seemed that even if the restaurant was half full (on a Saturday evening) that the clients were to blame. This restaurant was known for its mixed fried meat main course but is now served overly greasy, the pumpkin ravioli were 3 pieces (which at a cost of EUR9 equates to EUR3 per piece of ravioli) and the caccio and pepper pasta was inedible. The atmosphere is pleasant but not the service or the price.

Our host recommended this Trattoria. Who know why.... The ambience is mediocre, the choice is not large, the portions are soso, and the quality of the food is nothing special. Coperto 2,50 EUR per person. Prices too high for the offered quality. The service is also not overly friendly. Hence, no single reason to go there!
