“Fantastic ski centre”
Reviewed April 19, 2014 via mobile

Wonderful scenery and great skiing with plenty of green runs for the less proficient skier.
Rather busier than other Norwegian resorts we've been to though.

“Great resort for families and those who like their parks”
Reviewed March 22, 2014

Our family of four (mum, dad, girls aged 13 and 10) intermediate skiers loved this relatively small resort and will be thinking about coming back. Make no mistake, by Alpine standards there is not a huge amount of skiing, but we don't mind repeating runs, so that's not a problem. All of the runs end back at the same point, so this is a great resort if you have skiers who want to ski different runs but want to meet back at the same point.

There are two "levels" to the resort; a lower level through trees which runs from about 1100m to 500m and a higher level from about 1500m to 1100m. The higher level is based around three hills/peaks, and can be a little windswept. The lower level gives you the opportunity to pick green, blue, red and black runs back to the resort.

Some comments on the pistes - the green run back to the resort can get very busy. May be better to take the blue 10, 20, 21 instead. Blue 10 is the steepest blue by a long way, but it is very wide. Of the reds we skied, none was particularly challenging, although wind meant that one or two were icy (but that's what your skis have edges for). One of the blacks (black 8, I think) would be a red in some resorts. Black 9 (I think) is mogulled and black 6 is a proper black. The green run on the left hand side of the resort just below red 7 is a great place to practice new things and to play around.

This a resort for those who like their parks. They are everywhere, even in the kids' area. Great fun. Even mum and dad were having a go on the jumps and bumps.

The piste preparation was not the best I have experienced. Many days there was a lot of snow (about 0.3m) on top of a bashed piste, but I am quite happy skiing on a foot of snow on top of a pisted run. This may upset some people, especially if you like high speed cruising or if you are just learning.

The lifts were fine for the number of visitors there, but some of them could do with an upgrade. The only lift queues we experienced were on the first day when high winds prevented the main 8 man chair lift from running.

The lessons from the ski school were good. Elder daughter had a great time in the advanced class. Lots of moguls, off piste and park work. She loved it. My group was large (10 people) but the instruction was good and the instructor gave us lots of very good tips.

“SABENA=Skistar A Blody Experience Never Again”
Reviewed March 15, 2014 via mobile

Dont come here. This is our second visit here this year. SABENA.
Today only 2 lifts open. No compensation provided and no information about this when buying Skipass this morning. Very long waiting lines.

“Outdated and worn down”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

We have just returned home to Denmark after one week in Hemsedal in a group of 10 people staying in Skarsnuten Fjelllandsby.

And while our apartment was great, the skiing experience was less than great, actually quite bad. We had high expections, but we were greatly disappointed of the facility which seems outdated and worn down.

The lifts are slow and stop all the time. The handful of grooming machines are a rare sight, and we only experienced a freshly groomed piste once. Normally all slopes are groomed in the morning or during the night, but never in Hemsedal. Sure, when it snows during the night it will cover the grooming tracks, but there were no tracks of grooming what so ever - what a contrast to places like the highly modern Trysil and destinations in the Alpes.

They need to work on these issues - until then, we'll travel elsewhere.
