“Worth the Detour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2012

I have been trying to get into Langass Lodge for years and at last my wife and I managed a stay . The drawback ? They could only take us for 1 night.

The room we had, in a modern extension, was excellent;very high quality fittings with a bathroom as big as some bedrooms. The location is nice and lonely in the Hebridean style a few miles down the 'M1' from Lochmaddy. Nothing that much special about the location though they do have a nice private stone circle of their own. What makes it special to a superb degree is that the owners work their socks off. whether you stay for 1 night or weeks , you are made to feel really important. The result is one of the best hotels in the Western Isles.

But that is not all! As we only had 1 night we ordered different items off the menu and shared. Thus effectively having 2 dinners!! Each course was just superb. Can not even remember the name of the sea shore plant with one of the main courses but it was a new taste sensation. Serving staff excellent and witty. So this may be one of the best hotels in the Outer Hebrides but, at this point in time, they have the very best restaurant in the Hebs., where there are lots of good eateries.

And breakfast was top class.Who could ever resist Stornoway Black Pudding ? A few staff no-shows meant that the dining room work was being carried out by the owners settling down to another 18 hour B and B day with a smile. Top marks all round.

What a fabulous hotel, great rooms, great people and fantastic dinner. A real treat. The only slightly daft thing about it is that there is a 'restaurant' menu and a 'bar' menu and it is completely out of the question to order an item from the 'restaurant' menu if you are sat in the bar. It just seemed a bit jobsworth not to bend the rules occasionally in the name of good customer service. A niggle though really - I just really fancied the salmon starter from the restaurant menu and would have happily paid for it...however this was a particularly lovely place to spend the night...

Got the family room at the end of the new extension, [room 12 ?].
Great space, with patio doors leading onto lawn, and stunning views.
Restaurant service & food is of a high standard.
Would definitely return.

Room Tip: Room 12 was ideal - and spacious - for family with 2 teenage kids.

This is a first rate small hotel. It promises "good food, comfortable rooms and a warm welcome" and delivers magnificently on all three. The food is better than good - local produce imaginatively cooked. The rooms are comfortable, homely and entirely adequate and ours had recently been modernised with an excellent bathroom. And the welcome from the owner-proprietors is genuine and everything one could wish for.

For a small hotel in a remote part of Scotland, Langass Lodge has got everything pretty much just right.

I stayed here with husband and another couple. UNFORTUNATELY we were only there for one night. I shall be visiting N Uist again JUST to revisit Langass Lodge. Top quality in every way. The food was fantastic and the smoked haddock and poached egg breakfast was the best I have every had in my life and not only am I a wrinkly but I had my own restaurant so when I say the food was good IT WAS. Now all the rooms were very very comfortably furnished with top quality bathroom essentials also - however, something else the got dead right was staffing. All staff members were terrific. Go now before they adjust the prices to what they should be which is considerably higher than they are now

Room Tip: All rooms are equally quiet because the hotel is situated at the end of its own private road by the...

Really liked Langass Lodge. Its off the main road about a mile and I wasn't too sure if it would look as good as their web site had it but if anything it was even better - freshly painted, good service, lovely rooms , nicely done mix of modern updates with the older traditional part of the hotel.
We chose to eat in the Lounge Bar rather than the restaurant and it was a lovely meal.
Would definitely return here.

We have just stayed at Langass Lodge for two nights and wish we could have stayed longer. We were in Room 8 which is in the new part of the building - a huge room finished to a very high standard and with a lovely view. I have never slept in such a comfy bed before. Wish I could have taken it home! Large bathroom with robes, slippers and nice toiletries supplied. We ate in the bar both nights and the menu/prices were very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful at al times. Breakfast was excellent with good choice of cereals, porridge, ham & cheeses, fresh fruit and pastries plus all the cooked stuff. The place was absolutely spotless. Some nice walks nearby and beautiful beaches to visit in both North and South Uist. We`ll definitely be back!

Room Tip: I don`t know what the rooms in the old part of the Lodge are like, but if you ask for a room in the...
