We had two interconnecting rooms in Hamersay House (previously Tigh Dearg) and we were very impressed. We were the only guests the first night and were given a very warm and friendly welcome. The rooms were spacious and modern and the food in the restaurant was lovely. We were extremely lucky with the weather and spent three days exploring the fabulous white sandy beaches and clear turquoise sea all around Uist.

One night stayed here on our tour of the hebridies from north to south.
Off the ferry on the 18:30 sailing from Leverburgh, so arrived at about quarter to eight. Food still being served but we'd eaten at The Anchorage before getting on the ferry so no dinner needed at the hotel however the food looked nice.
Leisure centre is a room of gym equipment and I didn't check out the sauna/steam room.
Bar is nice, staff were a tad scarce as bar and restaurant being managed by same staff so service was slowish. Quiet place so after our first drink we went to local lochmaddy hotel bar for some livelier activity and to get more suitable beer/ale for my husband, which was entertaining to say the least!!
Room was very comfortable, nice decor and good comfy bed. En suite was good size. Breakfast was good but we went late, due to sleeping in, and just had the buffet cereals/yogurt/meat or cheese plates/pastries which were sufficient.
Overall a good stop off point, nice staff, good room and service...happily endorse this place.

The Tigh Dearg now named Hamersay House, is excellent. The rooms are spacious, modern and very clean. The minimalist approach to decor works very well and gives the bar and dining room a very open feel. The staff is a great team, with every member going out of her way to be really helpful. The food is very good with a chef who changes the menu nightly, not easy on a small island. Being vegetarian can sometimes be a problem with choice, but not in this case. The chef went it of his way to prepare meals with me in mind. My carnivore husband was well catered for also, with beautifully prepared lamb or tempting fish, as examples. Prices were reasonable and quantities were more than ample. Breakfasts were equally good.
As the hotel becomes more popular, consideration will need to be given to having more waiting staff as sometimes the service is a. Little slow. However on Holiday what's the rush?
We would easily recommend this hotel and do intend to return!

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the loch

Originally booked in January 2013 for a one night stay at the beginning of June, only to be advised 10 days before our stay, that the hotel change ownership, and that the new owner was not honouring existing bookings. I fortunately managed to track the hotels staff, at the now renamed Hamersay House Hotel, and booked a room, as other hotels were full.

The room was clean and tidy, and had a large bed. The evening meals were served in the bar only, as the restaurant was closed. The meal was of a reasonable standard, and breakfast the following morning was good.

However, I do not feel that this hotel, in its current position represesnts good value for money, and would rather have stayed elsewhere.

We were supposed to be on a budget, but after a camping experience in Benbecula which is best left unsaid, thought we'd try a hotel. And it was great. Really comfortable room, good food and service, friendly staff, all mod cons. The only downside is that Lochmaddy has nothing going for it; there's a pretentious arts centre that appears to be full of middle class southern england incomers to the islands, and that's about it. So, great hotel, in a not so great town. Also, useful for the ferry to Skye.

I stayed here with two other people for one night and we all had a very comfortable stay. The staff were so helpful and accommodating, they gave us the room for £80 including breakfast and put up a camp bed for the third person, great value for money. The room was modern, clean, cosy and comfortable and the bathroom was also modern and spotless. We all had a cooked breakfast which was delicious, we chose our breakfast items the night before at dinner. There was a special set menu for the 'Screen Machine' which was in town. If I have to stay in N Uist again I would almost certainly go back as it was so lovely. Never had time to make use of the leisure club unfortunately, but again what great value for money as use of it is included. Free wifi too which was so handy as I barely had a phone signal on Uist anywhere!
