Not really a twitcher, but thoroughly enjoyed Balranald just for the walk. Real feeling of being on the edge of the world as you walk along the Atlantic coast.

Nice wee info centre, fabulous loop walk ( could do with better sign posts) and lovely example of conservation and farming working well together. A real delight for a walk and some good birding.

A must visit place for anyone interested in local birds and nature.
Great waymarked 3 mile walk that gives opportunity to find the birds as well as spot the islands. Our September day was beautiful -sunny and clear - so in addition to birds we could spot St Kilda as well as the Monarchs.
Centre helpful and toilets well cared for.
Overall a great attraction for families of any shape and size, who enjoy walking.

Although the RSPB centre is not manned, it is kept open to the public and includes a fair amount of information about latest sightings and what birds you might see. We didn't go on any guided walks and were happy to simply wander across the machair to the beach and up to the headland.

If you are really interested in birds this is obviously a great place to visit, albeit that you will likely see just as many types of birds elsewhere in the vicinity (because birds can't read signs to designated landing sites!) - but even if you only have a general interest in birds, it is still worth visiting Balranald for the lovely area and nice walks.

The RSPB centre has toilets and car parking and the caravan site next door has a refreshments kiosk.

This is the third time we have visited the reserve, and each time we have joined the ranger led guided walks. All have been very different, but all enjoyable and well worth doing as an introduction to the area.
