“Great location, basic hotel”
Reviewed August 2, 2010

My sister booked this holiday for myself and my parents. She was told it was four star and so i had quite high expectations.
Arriving at the hotel, i was impressed. It was a nice looking building with well maintained flowerbeds. It was directly next to a pool (run by a lovely british lady) and next to the ocean! The water was gorgeous and we had a go at watersports which was quite reasonably priced.
However on entry, I must say this is not a four star hotel! Not by a long shot. Now the staff were extremely friendly and the service was great. We were half board. The continental breakfast was so-so but dinner was fantastic. The hotel has a really great cook. The menu for us half-boarders was very limited but the food we had was delicious. One of the highlights of staying there. It does not, however, cater for dietary requirements beyond vegetarianism as you might expect for a so-called four star hotel. My mum can't have gluten which whilst i know is a pretty big requirement, should not be really for a four star hotel (last year we stayed at a well-deserved four star hotel that had a gigantic buffet that catered for just about everyone)
However, great staff and great food can't quite equal out the rooms which were basic to say the least. We had a constant stream of ants that got everywhere (including my suitcase, from then on we zipped up all our belongings each night). The cleaners did not bother cleaning up the dead ants everywhere, our sheets were not changed the entire week and we were given one loo roll for the entire week- definately not the standards a good four star hotel would practice.
As i said, we were half-board and thank goodness because the self catering facilities were as basic as the room, just a cupboard that opens with a tiny kitchenette and a fridge which we were afraid the ants would get into.
The only real appeal of the hotel is the location, which was excellent. For those willing to hike a bit, about 35 minutes away by foot is an amazing beach, very quiet, deserted some days, with one very friendly greek guy who sells everything from coke and crisps to watermelon. The sea was gorgeous, well worth a visit.

Overall, although the staff are great, i would most definately not stay here again unless it was a lot less money! Lasy year my boyfriend and i stayed at a two star hotel in Kos which was 10 times nicer, cleaner and cheaper!

Booked the holiday for my partner and two children ( aged 9 boy & 10 girl), despite arriving after midnight we were warmly greeted by one of the friendly staff and offered drinks and food. The apartment was very clean and overlooking the pool, sea and mainland Greece. The apartments are situated about 20 minutes outside of the main town of Kavos (where the "strip" is a favourite for the youngsters wanting to party) and although the age range of the people staying at the resort varied from young teenagers to couples to families, the young "revellers" were not too disruptive and the majority of youngsters did keep the noise down. The hotel staff were very friendly and accomodating. Unfortunately there isnt much of a beach but the pool is kept clean and is big enough. And the watersports are cool ! The choice of places to eat is quite limited as we didnt want to venture into kavos town, but there are two good restuarants and the hotel offered a variety of good food too. The boat trip to Paxos and Antipaxos is well worth the money...a great way to swim in the chrystal waters, see the caves and shop in the picturesque village of Paxos...All in all we all had a great relaxing time......9/10

I went to kavos for my first lads holiday and I have to say its the best one ive had yet, we arrived and were given our keys striaght away no messing about and shown to our rooms, there was 10 of us and we had 3 room in each of the different hotel blocks which was actually quite good to be honest, I quite enjoyed being spread across the hotel.
Might aswell get the bad points of out the way. First the smell, anyone whos been to kavos will know the smell of sewage rains supreme and our hotel was no exception, infact it was the opposite due it being so close to the sea the smell was increase, at one point I stepped on some grass the hotel and got a very soggy foot only to relise it hadnt rained all week! but it really doesnt matter where you go in kavos you will not escape this.
Next the cleanliness by far the worst thing about the hotel, there was a VERY big ant problem at the hotel and when I returned to england I found our a few weeks later I had been bitten by some crazy bug and I ended up with a very nasty infection on the back of my head for quite some time, whether this occurred in the hotel or not I do not know but I would definitely guess that it did.
The only other true negative would be the coach journey from the aiport, yes this hotel is the absolute last stop aswell being at the very southen tip of the island, but hey its an extra 2 hours to either drink or sleep!
The location of the hotel is something that can be considered a positive or negative, its approximately 15-20mins walk to the nearest shop and bar and club strip, I considered this a massive positive to be honest although it can be a big of a blag during the day if you want to take a trip to the shops(the hotel does have a shop but doesnt sell alcohol) or to do anything else in the centre at night the walk after having a few to drink was a good laugh with all the lads and was often one of the best parts of the night, it also meant when you came back at the end of the night you could get a good sleep as you wernt anywhere near the very noisy strip. It was also right next to a little port where you can do all sorts of watersports which, im a big watersports fan and this really was the highlight of the holiday for me.
The two best things about the hotel would have to be first of all the views from the hotel unlike the interior of the rooms the outside of the hotel is beautiful and the views of the mainland the island of paxoi are absolutely stunning.
By far the best thing about this hotel though is the general atmosphere and people staying there, there was a good mix of lads and girls (unlike the rest of kavos where boys outnumber girls 4-1 easily) and we made good friends with 4 different groups of girls in the week which made the pre-drinks and walk to the strip even better. during the day everyone is out in or by the pool and has the best atmosphere ive ever experienced, better than that even of halls of residence in freshers week!

I went along with 23 of my friends for a week to the Ionian Sea View Hotel in July and found it to be an good holiday, for teenagers.
This hotel was full of people aged from 18-24 and was mainly a party hotel, there was one family who i felt a little sorry for. Although it must be said once your shutters were closed we couldn't hear any noise at night time. This is not a hotel for families with children, as there is nothing else to do in the evenings then getting drunk in the clubs.
We were lucky with our room, which was on the second floor,we had a great view. A down side to the rooms was a smell of sewage that would waft over paired with ants in the apartment. The room itsef was alright for what we needed, yet the sheets were changed once and later found out contained bedbugs which bit me and my friend. Also the toilet floor was quite dirty and one loo roll was only supplied.
The service at the hotel/bar was fantastic, really friendly and always helpful. The barman Yanni was lovely, so was the woman who ran the pool snack bar.
Kavos in general is a place for people looking for a party and cheap drinks, and the Ionian was full of these kinds of people. If you are just needing a place to sleep for the night and a pool to chill at during the day, and if your under 25 then this is probably the place for you. Cleanliness could have been alot better but service and location was ideal.
Overall i would give it 3/5.
*A special mention must go out to The Rose Tree restaurant, run by a lovely man who gave us many free starters and drinks from the time we ventured there :)

From reading some of these reviews you would get the impression that this hotel is one of unfriendliest, dirty, insect filled places on earth. From this I had extremely low expectationsof the hotel before the trip.

But when I got there these expectations were destroyed. Extremely friendly staff all day round even in hte early hours of the morning. The place was clean, the rooms were spacious and in a good state. I would say if you are staying in one of the C# villa rooms to bring some ant killer/ insect repellent for the ants however.

Close t othe beach, nice pool although it is a soberingly long walk from the strip itself which can be a plus or minus depending on how you look at it.

We arrived early hours of morning, was shown to our rooms promptly, having read previous reviews was prepared of what to expect! Rooms were basic and kitchen wasnt enough for self catering couldnt prepare a meal. However being 19-25 we werent there to cook anyway so it didnt matter.

Amazing Views off balcony over looking Sea and Water Sports.

Pool Area was Nice, good bar service. Food was Good too, Lovely lady worked behind bar always Smiling!!

GREAT HOTEL FOR 18-30'S
Kavos nightlife was lively , we all loved it.Kavos generally isnt for the older folk.

Before i went to this hotel i read the reviews on here and kept an open mind thinking people were exaggerating or went at the wrong time of year etc. I have just returned from a week at the Ionian Sea View Hotel and can honestly say every bad review on here is fully justified.

The only good thing about this Hotel is the location. Its about a 20 minute walk to the strip in Kavos, so far enough to not hear any of the noise yet close enough to walk. The views from the hotel are beautiful, you have an ocean view of the Greek mainland i believe, and of Paxos. At night especially when the moon is over the sea (we were lucky enough to see the full moon) it makes an amazing scene. This is the only good thing about the hotel.

As the hotel has links with 18-30 club scene if you aren’t the kind of person to drink yourself silly every night and stay out until 5/6am good luck getting to sleep. As the bars on the strip are open until 6am this means there are a lot of drunken teens coming back at all hours every night screaming, shouting and banging. Ear plugs made it just about bearable.

The room we were in was on the ground floor, and whilst you expect some wildlife to come into the room, we had hornets, flies and an infestation of ants constantly. The bath was always covered in ants and the floor covered in dead ants.

The hotel is self catering, you are provided with very little. One toilet roll, (you have to buy more yourself), your towels are changed once, they charge you to clean them any more than that! Your bed linen is not changed at all the whole week. The kitchen was a cupboard with a stove and a fridge inside, the fridge in our room did not close properly and so was never a cold enough temperature, it was good we never planned on keeping food in there. We were given 4 plates, 4 knives and forks and 4 glasses- 1 of which was mouldy and that was it. We weren’t provided with a kettle/tin opener- basic things you expect from a self catered room really. Other people on a higher floor were provided with these, so it was hit and miss and your luck of room i guess!

The bathroom in our room had a hole in the top of the wall so it wasn’t very nice if you are sharing a room with other people.

The shower hook which holds the shower up was broken so we had to hold the shower head over you every time, and the water spurted out in every direction but down which made showering very difficult! In addition to this the hot water is only turned on for limited hours between 7-11 in the morning and 5.30-9 in the evening. If you wake late or go for dinner you miss it which isn’t helpful at all.

The shop in the hotel has all your basics, but prices are higher than shops on the strip, but if the owners see you walking in with water/food from other people they ask you why you havnt bought it from them and made us feel so uncomfortable.

Some of the staff are really friendly and go out of their way to make you enjoy your time and have everything you require, however some are not so. As highlighted they make you feel uncomfortable by questioning if you haven’t bought food/drink from them. If you highlight something your not happy with we were mumbled at in Greek and made again to feel very uncomfortable.

The pool area is lovely, and the lady at bar by the pool was excellent and always smiling. However there is a constant smell of sewage which ruins it for you.

The rep at the resort for Thomas cook was difficult to get hold of as she was rarely around, so if we wanted to book something or ask a question this proved difficult. On the welcome talk at the start she failed to mention any important details like hotel policy (the owners said she should have gone through this when we asked about changing towels/bed linen etc) and only concentrated on selling the 18-30 trips because of our age.

When you leave the hotel you have to leave by 12, and if your coach doesn’t pick you up until the evening you are expected to leave your luggage in the baggage hold outside the front of the hotel...unattended....! Again staff aren’t so pleasant when you question this! It’s either this or pay an extra 50 euro for a room for a few hours!

To summarise I would never recommend this hotel to a friend, and I would never return. I feel it put a dampner on my holiday and is a bad representation of Thomas cooks usual high standards. The only people I would recommend this hotel to are teens just looking for a bed after spending their time on the strip.
