“Not what I expected at all!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2010

From reading some of these reviews you would get the impression that this hotel is one of unfriendliest, dirty, insect filled places on earth. From this I had extremely low expectationsof the hotel before the trip.

But when I got there these expectations were destroyed. Extremely friendly staff all day round even in hte early hours of the morning. The place was clean, the rooms were spacious and in a good state. I would say if you are staying in one of the C# villa rooms to bring some ant killer/ insect repellent for the ants however.

Close t othe beach, nice pool although it is a soberingly long walk from the strip itself which can be a plus or minus depending on how you look at it.

We arrived early hours of morning, was shown to our rooms promptly, having read previous reviews was prepared of what to expect! Rooms were basic and kitchen wasnt enough for self catering couldnt prepare a meal. However being 19-25 we werent there to cook anyway so it didnt matter.
Only one Loo roll Supplied but was cheap enough to buy more, Not a problem!! Towels and sheets were changed once which was fine, too hot to sleep in covers most nights anyway!
Amazing Views off balcony over looking Sea and Water Sports.

Pool Area was Nice, good bar service. Food was Good too, Lovely lady worked behind bar always Smiling!!

Good Reception Bar staff, 24-7 bar serving pizza N hotdogs, of Course Alcohol Which after a night out on the strip finsh the night in there till early hours of morning!!

GREAT HOTEL FOR 18-30'S
Kavos nightlife was lively , we all loved it.Kavos generally isnt for the older folk.
Pay more you get more!!!

Before i went to this hotel i read the reviews on here and kept an open mind thinking people were exaggerating or went at the wrong time of year etc. I have just returned from a week at the Ionian Sea View Hotel and can honestly say every bad review on here is fully justified.

The only good thing about this Hotel is the location. Its about a 20 minute walk to the strip in Kavos, so far enough to not hear any of the noise yet close enough to walk. The views from the hotel are beautiful, you have an ocean view of the Greek mainland i believe, and of Paxos. At night especially when the moon is over the sea (we were lucky enough to see the full moon) it makes an amazing scene. This is the only good thing about the hotel.

As the hotel has links with 18-30 club scene if you aren’t the kind of person to drink yourself silly every night and stay out until 5/6am good luck getting to sleep. As the bars on the strip are open until 6am this means there are a lot of drunken teens coming back at all hours every night screaming, shouting and banging. Ear plugs made it just about bearable.

The room we were in was on the ground floor, and whilst you expect some wildlife to come into the room, we had hornets, flies and an infestation of ants constantly. The bath was always covered in ants and the floor covered in dead ants.

The hotel is self catering, you are provided with very little. One toilet roll, (you have to buy more yourself), your towels are changed once, they charge you to clean them any more than that! Your bed linen is not changed at all the whole week. The kitchen was a cupboard with a stove and a fridge inside, the fridge in our room did not close properly and so was never a cold enough temperature, it was good we never planned on keeping food in there. We were given 4 plates, 4 knives and forks and 4 glasses- 1 of which was mouldy and that was it. We weren’t provided with a kettle/tin opener- basic things you expect from a self catered room really. Other people on a higher floor were provided with these, so it was hit and miss and your luck of room i guess!

The bathroom in our room had a hole in the top of the wall so it wasn’t very nice if you are sharing a room with other people.

The shower hook which holds the shower up was broken so we had to hold the shower head over you every time, and the water spurted out in every direction but down which made showering very difficult! In addition to this the hot water is only turned on for limited hours between 7-11 in the morning and 5.30-9 in the evening. If you wake late or go for dinner you miss it which isn’t helpful at all.

The shop in the hotel has all your basics, but prices are higher than shops on the strip, but if the owners see you walking in with water/food from other people they ask you why you havnt bought it from them and made us feel so uncomfortable.

Some of the staff are really friendly and go out of their way to make you enjoy your time and have everything you require, however some are not so. As highlighted they make you feel uncomfortable by questioning if you haven’t bought food/drink from them. If you highlight something your not happy with we were mumbled at in Greek and made again to feel very uncomfortable.

The pool area is lovely, and the lady at bar by the pool was excellent and always smiling. However there is a constant smell of sewage which ruins it for you.

The rep at the resort for Thomas cook was difficult to get hold of as she was rarely around, so if we wanted to book something or ask a question this proved difficult. On the welcome talk at the start she failed to mention any important details like hotel policy (the owners said she should have gone through this when we asked about changing towels/bed linen etc) and only concentrated on selling the 18-30 trips because of our age.

When you leave the hotel you have to leave by 12, and if your coach doesn’t pick you up until the evening you are expected to leave your luggage in the baggage hold outside the front of the hotel...unattended....! Again staff aren’t so pleasant when you question this! It’s either this or pay an extra 50 euro for a room for a few hours!

To summarise I would never recommend this hotel to a friend, and I would never return. I feel it put a dampner on my holiday and is a bad representation of Thomas cooks usual high standards. The only people I would recommend this hotel to are teens just looking for a bed after spending their time on the strip.

My Wife and I have just returned from a week at the Ionian Sea View Hotel and I have to say the location of this Hotel is fantastic and all the rooms have stunning views over to Greece mainland, most of the staff are friendly enough, you can walk to Kavos centre if Bars and clubs are your thing, we found a lovely Taverna just round the corner called "The Rose Tree" which is definately worth a visit. but that's about all the positives I can think of...

Please be aware that everything is extra! and they make up the prices as they go... Air conditioning is is £40 for the week but when we asked it was £50 or £10 per day.. I have never been to a hotel where you have to pay for air con.. Towels and sheets are not changed for a whole week and only one toilet roll is given for the week. they do have a on site shop but the prices are massively inflated... if you can hire a car or bike head out to lidl's just out of Kavos. One of the biggest issues for us was the music they play around the pool all day which is way too loud, especially when there's only a couple of people trying to relax round the pool, we left the hotel everyday and went to the beach or anywhere else because of this..When we came back to the hotel the pool area was then closed at 6pm everyday. Our room was infested with ants, we don't mind a bit of wildlife coming in, it happens, but when you have an ants nest on the balcony its a bit much.

When we checked in we were given no info at all about anything, check out times, Restaurant times etc and we now believe there was an option to go half board but we didn't know anything about it...

These are self catering apartments... well just about... the fridge just about worked, the extractor fan did not work so we had to try and cook in the dark as its all in a cupboard with no light, on the website is says you get a toaster well you don't, or a knife, or a Tin opener.

The whole hotel is run by someone who has no idea about running a hotel, "Basil Fawlty" would do a better job, it's a same because with the correct management it could be a little gem... If they operated it as it should they would not have to make up revenue by charging for things which should be standard, We just used the place as somewhere to sleep and went out and did our own thing elsewhere...

Theres no evening entertainment the place dead as a dodo.... now from our balcony we could see into the next door hotel pool area which always had people around in the evening spending over their bar... what does that say.

So to sum up great location but that's it!

oh by the way if you are going, head over to the secret beach which is signposted next to the Rose Tree Taverna, its a bit of a walk but its empty when you get there.. we had a hire car so we drove up the track.

i had read some good & bad reviews about the hotel, but kept an open mind.we pulled up & it didnt look to bad,but as soon as you walked in you can tell this isnt a 4* hotel. We got the key to our room-which by the way the electric is on a key meter so if youve had a few too many trying to find this is a pain in the bum as its pitch black. straight away there was a back draft of strong wee coming from the bathroom,u only get 1 loo roll for the whole week, hot water at certain times so if you do have a afternoon nap u buggered. The sheets didnt get changed once in the whole week we were there. We had ant infestation in my room & the room nxt door - im talking in the 100's everyday running about your room, bed you name it.plus the fridges dont shut so you find them having a wander about in there aswell.i did manage to get some candles to stop this & i left l about 100 ant bodys(on purpose) around the sink- this was where they would all stop & have a gud chinwag, i came back in my room a few hours later - the cleaner had been in chucked a sheet on the end on the bed moved my toothbrushes but left on the ants around the sink lavly.i paid £50 for breakfast but was then told its only a cup of tea & a slice of toast. there are constanly mosquoitos in the room & u cant leave a plug in on to get rid as u electric key is stuck on yr room key & so u can only have this on once yr in the room & u have been attacked already, air con is £40 euro for the week. plus u can hear everthing the other people nxt door are saying & i even had the pleasure on hearing the person upstairs taking a poo - the walls are really that thin.i would never ever go back even if it was for free & i wouldnt allow my kids to stay there hell no!!! - im surprised the hotel hasnt been closed kim & aggy need to pop in the place its filfhy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NEVER GO THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before I came to the Ionian Sea View I read some reviews and have to say I was rather worried. However, on arriving, we were given a friendly welcome and fresh pizza was prepared for us by Yiannis (I don't know if that's how you spell it!)

We were taken to our rooms which were clean and comfortable. The beds are rather hard, but they're not a problem. The maids are really cute, very smiley and friendly.

Throughout our stay, we received fantastic service, all members of staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, we instantly felt comfortable and at home, I really can't stress that enough.

Now for the food, if you visit Ionian Sea View, you must try the beef stifado, it was delicious, the beef was really tender and the sauce was just delicious. My friend had the slovaki, which she said was also delicious.

The pool, which is right next to the sea, is a good size, and Julie at the snack bar is friendly, and always on hand to prepare meals for you. The food is reasonably priced, you can have a full English breakfast all day for 2.50 (that's Euros)

The walk into Kavos isn't so bad, and there are plenty of bars and tavernas to go to, but you won't get a beef stifado as good as at the Ionian.

I think I've waffled enough now, so I'll just sum up by saying that you shouldn't listen to the bad reviews, I don't even understand where they've come from, we had a lovely time, felt really welcome and enjoyed everything. Bring some spare towels with you, that's my only advice, other than that, I can't recommend the Ionian Sea View enough.
