It was cool but the setting was hot with no shade. It is in a very dry area so when it's hot it's merciless. But they have beers on sale at a little stand as well as cool drinks and water.

I agree with those who found the lakes disappointing. I did enjoy the horse ride through the town, but you spent very little time in the "desert". Overall not worth the time or $. If you want a fantastic free view of the town I recommend hiking up to the white cross you see above the town. You start by going past the plaza where they hold the farmer's market, a school, and the local soccer field. The trail has signs painted in white on the rock and it is pretty hard to miss.
The trail consists mostly of loose rocks and it is not easy going, but you do not have to go all the way up before you start getting a nice view of the town. You will see evidence of a fire that came very close to town and the cross and Jesus statues have been repainted. When we made it to the monuments the valley was completely covered with clouds, but within minutes the sun shone through revealing De Leyva and the entire valley. Two words of caution: I wouldn't recommend going after it rains, because it could be very slippery and don't forget about the altitude!

We went by horseback from a tourist shop in the main square (its cheaper if you just ask a local which way are the Pozos Azules and start walking, a few minutes later you will see a few people renting horses much cheaper) Contrary to what some of these other reviewers are saying it doesnt seem like a great hike, there are much much better hikes in town, like a hike to a lagoon at the top of a mountain close by. Ask around. Anyway the pools are worth a look, they are very pretty surrounded in mountain scenery and the water colour (ya we spell color* that way in canada eh) is all its said to be...blue'ish. Theres somebody there to take a few dollars off you if you want to go IN the water and another with a cooler incase you want a beer or soda, other than that its pretty much empty. So as much as i liked it and i would recommend checking out the Pozos Azules i wouldnt plan your entire day around it, even the most self-entertaining person will get bored after an hour there. As a great fictional Gump once said "and that is all i have to say about that"

Loved it. Very unique hike around some natural pools formed in a dessertical area. The water is so pure and the color is somewhere between green and blue. Very close to the town. Around 10 minutes.
