“Fabulous five days at the Stella Maris”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

i stayed at the Stella Maris two years ago with my two children during a wet and chilly summer. None of that mattered. We loved our accomodation-Greg and Gary provided a home from home-comfort, warmth, hospitality and a great breakfast!. i especially loved the location- so close to Keel beach with gorgeous views of the sea and Minaun cliffs.

Last week I invited a good friend and her two children to join us for five days. My friend is returning soon to her native Nepal and I wanted her to experience the wild and uncontaminated beauty of Achill.
Thankfully, the weather was brilliant and show-cased my favourite place in Ireland in all her abundant glory. Our stay at the fabulous Stella Maris served to assure a great holiday. Lovely rooms, an amazing relaxed atmosphere, wonderful hospitality and a delicious choice of beautifully cooked breakfasts.with lots of fresh fruits , cheeses, yogurts jams,- you name it, Mary provides it.
Mary and Greg also have a lovely garden fronting on to the beach and I have particularly fond memories of swinging gently on the carved garden seat in the warm late evening breeze with my children and gazing up at the mystical cloud formations draping over Slievemore.mountain.

My friend and her children were equally impressed with their experience and she intends to spread the word.Thank you Mary, Greg, Nicola and Helena for making my stay so enjoyable. See you next year if not before!!!

.. . . .

We stayed in the Stella Maris on one of the warmest weeks of the year. The welcome we received from Mary was heartwarming after such a long trip. We loved the family and relaxed atmosphere that Greg and Mary have in their guesthouse. We had booked for 2 nights but by breakfast on the first morning we extended it to 3. It was our first time to stay in a guest house as we usually stay in a hotel but we have been converted. Mary and Greg were great hosts could not have been nicer, staff were friendly, the local girl serving in the breakfast room was lovely and a credit to Stella Maris, pancakes a must. We stayed in the suite overlooking the ocean and the view was to die for, it was breathtaking the minute we walked into the room. Our bedroom was very comfortable with a seated area to relax in and take in the views. We really enjoyed speaking to Greg about the room at the front of the house as it was so unusually decorated with pieces they sent home from their travels around the world. The highlight of the room had to be the spiral staircase. The beach was just at the end of the garden with a beautiful walk to the cliffs. We spent our days travelling around the island, so much to see and one part more beautiful than the next. The atmosphere on the island is so relaxed and friendly, but more importantly Mary ang Greg were so relaxed and friendly, we will be back. Sandra & Jim

We stayed for two nights here during the very good weather. The hosts Greg and Mary are very friendly and helpful! They even brought us tea & biscuits on arrival after our long journey. Rooms were nice, clean & quiet. Guests had a separate entrance to the
Accommodation & were free to come & go all day as we pleased. Breakfast was very generous and had a great variety of menus and a good buffet- all served in a beautiful room lookinpuppy at the sea. The best things about this place for us were the friendly relaxed atmosphere & the access at the bottom of the garden to Keel Beach.

Mary is the heart and soul of Stella Maris. We totally enjoyed our 2 night stay in June 2013. Terrific location on Achill Island, clean and comfortable, and breakfast was delicious. Mary makes you feel like a member of the family. So happy we picked Stella Maris!

Mary and Greg are a lovely couple and so helpful. The B&B is clean and spacious and a perfect location. you can easily walk to the beach and to the Annex pub down the road. I recommend the pancakes for breakfast. Although all the breakfast options looked fantastic.

We were a family of 7 adults needing 3 rooms. We were given the West Wing and Wow how nice!!!We had a Guestroom to share for gatherings which we used everynight for wine and cheese. Breathtaking Views!!! Decor is Beautiful as is Mary and Greg. Their Warmth and Charm come across immediately. They were so helpful in answering all our questions and concerns, telling my daughter which route to take for their hike. Walked to town for restaurants and only steps away. Go out in back of B&B and there you are at the beach!!!Best Oatmeal I had while in Ireland!!!!We were celebrating my 70th birthday and they made that day so special for me. Look no further!!!Peggy K

Room Tip: Traveling as a family ask for West Wing.
