We stayed at the Stella Maris in July as my husband and I were taking part in the Achill half marathon, We were blown away by the quality of the B&B. We had a beautiful four poster bed and the views from our room were breath taking. This B&B is practically on the beach!! Breakfast was great and the owners couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. The island is so beautiful. This was our first visit but certainly not our last. We have already made reservations at the Stella Maris for August!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a 4 poster bed, they are fantastic!!

We booked this because of good reviews we read, and we weren't disappointed. Mary was very welcoming and friendly. The room was comfortable with a lovely view of the coast, not to mention the sheep just outside the garden. Breakfast very good with a choice of hot dishes. Decor is a bit 'over the top' but this just adds to the character. We would definitely recommend this place.

Right next to a stunning white sand beach, with its own direct access. The backdrop was mountains topped with mist, and across the bay more mountains. The views from the bedrooms, even on the ground floor, are breathtaking. The rooms themselves are spotless and beautifully furnished. We received a lovely welcome and we received excellent advice on what to see and where to eat. There was a surprising chioce given the isolated location. Achill Island is a hidden gem, lost in time and was one of the highlights of our holiday. And Stella Maris is the place to stay.

This B&B couldn't be in a better location. Right on the beach, in the middle of the island and within an easy stroll to restaurants and bars. The rooms have all the amenities with a modern romantic style. The owners are very attentive and lovely to chat with. I have already recommended this B&B to friends who visit the Island regularly, often bringing along guests. The Suite has wonderful large windows overlooking the beach and a four-poster bed. Even the neighboring house is post card perfect.

Note on dining: if you are not traveling in the high season your dinner choices will be very limited. We found only two restaurants open in early May. The Annex Bar is great place for nightcaps while watching the locals play poker.

My husband and I stayed in Stellamaris for the May bank holiday to celebrate our anniversary. It was our first time to Achill and it was such a lovely experience, that I cant wait to go back again. We loved Achill's beautiful landscape and spent most of our days on Keem beach (taking in the views of the four basking sharks!) and enjoying the great weather, and our evenings wining and dining. Mary and her family made us feel so welcome in their home and we found the location excellent for the restaurants and pubs, as well as Keel beach which is just at the end of their garden. We had a beautiful room overlooking the beach, which was clean and spacious, and the breakfast each morning was really delicious. Stellamaris is a hidden gem!

My wife and I stayed at Stella Maris for 3 nights, June 4-6, 2010. We are hikers and we love Achill Island for its ruggedness and it's natural unspoiled beauty and solitude. We always stay at Stella Maris when we hike Achill. Many of the rooms have spectacular views of the ocean, the beach and the cliffs across the bay. Stella Maris is very close to the beach and centrally located in Keel for exploring Achill. The B&B is elegantly decorated and the rooms are spotless and large. It is a very comfortable place to stay but not just because of the superior furnishings, the views or the location. Mary Toolis and Greg (and their entire family) are wonderfully friendly people and they make you feel at home in their home. This was our third stay at Stella Maris and we chose to celebrate my 59th birthday there in one of our favorite parts of Ireland. To celebrate, Mary made a reservation for us at Ferndale Restaurant in Keel. Believe it or not, you can get gourmet food in this bucolic part of Ireland at Ferndale. Kudos to Jon the Chef and his Aunt. Throughout our 5 weeks in Ireland, we told anyone we met who was going to Achill, to stay at Stella Maris. It's a very special place with very special people.

This is an excellent B & B in a fantastic location in the village of keel. The beach is practically the back garden!! It is within walking distance of all pubs and restaurants.

The rooms are pure luxury, our large room had a 4 poster bed and stunning views of the beach! The breakfast was superb with a large variety of options to choose from. We didnt have to eat again till dinner time!!!

The owners are very welcoming and friendly. I would definatley recommend this guest house and cant wait to return to Stella Maris in Achill.
