“A REAL FIND - TRADITIONAL GREEK HOLIDAY”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

Filoxenia - Standard accommodation, very clean & comfortable.
Hospitality we received from the family was like nothing i have experienced, Avangelia
& Nicos work incredibly hard at embracing their guests as if they were related. Wow
what an amazing place. 2 Nice pools, with umbrellas & sunbeds lawn and paved.
The food was all home cooked, free treats from Grandma! Nothing was too much
trouble if you wanted anything different cooking. The area was peaceful, places to walk to, few supermarkets nearby, bus stop outside, service on bus was good, drivers helpful.
The west coast is beautiful with much history, ruins, nature reserves, beaches, castles, archeology, not too far from Rhodes old Town (25min bus ride) which has a little something for everyone.. Local taxi was 24 Euros one way - local bus fare 5Euros.. Thank you Filoxenia for a memorable holiday we do hope to return soon xx

The warmness of the welcome by the owners (Nicos and Evangelia) right through to their farewell in the early hours of Sunday morning will last forever as very fond memories of our stay at Filoxenia.

Centred around the restaurant and beautifully maintained gardens, this was a Greek holiday experience at its best. Whilst ours were basic, the rooms are cleaned very regularly and fresh linen and towels were provided.

There are plenty of areas to explore down the west cost or across pine forest roads and small typical villages to the more populated east coast beaches.

I have experienced Rhodes (and many other Greek Islands) in my early 20s, 30s, 40s and now in the 29th anniversary year of my 21st birthday. This was the best of my visits and we hope to return to Filoxenia soon! Why? Because it was typically Greek and the way the owners' and their two sons made our family holiday completely wonderful, their facilities and the location!

Room Tip: Request the upper floors facing west coast to see the sun dip into the sea

I have just returned from the Filoxenia with my 15 year old son and 25 year old daughter. We had a great holiday exactly what we were looking for, somewhere to chill and relax in the sun, lots of sunbeds for everyone! The apartments are basic but bright and spacious and more importantly the apartments and surrounding areas are absolutely spotless and the views from the balcony were amazing. These family run apartments are an excellent place to stay, two pools, great bar, great food, beautiful surroundings. Nikos and his family were so friendly and helpful they could not do enough for you, you were made to feel very welcome. Definitely a place I would return.

My family stayed at the Doreta Beach hotel in Tholos last year. Whilst my parents stayed at Filoxenia. Although the staff as with all the local people were lovely we spent most of our time at Filoxenia with my parents as it was a lovely relaxing place were you were made to feel extremely welcome. Sick of mass produced food that we had to queue for and flat beer we decided that this year we would return to Filoxenia and it did not disappoint. Nikos, Evangelia, (the owners} and their sons Panos and Mike remembered us and made us very welcome. Their home cooked food was fantastic and bar service was exceptional. The rooms are spotless and well stocked with towels and the cleaners are in every day, Everyone greets you with a smile and just adds to your enjoyment of the place. I would like to thank Nikos and his family, including Granny who makes the best liqueurs for after dinner. Can't wait to go back and would recommend it to anyone. Magic and having done both I would advise you to pass on the all inclusive Filoxenia wins.

Our stay at the Filoxenia hotel was marvellous from the beginning to the end. It's hard to find such atmosphere on larger hotels. We came there in the middle of the night and were greeted and helped with our luggage. The owners Evangelica and Nicos are friendly and polite and so are their to sons. They really want you to have a nice stay, it is not just business. It is personality. If you are interested they share their story of the island and how the hotel was built. Evangelica is also a philologist and quite a source when it comes to history and religion. She is eager to share and willing to show you the best of the island. Every saturday there is a barbecue and Nicos prepare the best food from the traditional kitchen. It is not a luxury hotel without atmosphere, but if you want something unique which make you feel special, it is a wise choice. In the windy bays there are surfers but also plenty of space on your own if you want. The buses go every hour or more and take you to Rhodos town in half and hour. If not you can hire a car for 25- 30 euro per day. In the horizon you can view Turkey 9 km away. Hopefully we will be back! A loud " Kalimera" from all of us.

My family stayed at Filoxenia once again this summer for almost a month. This is our second summer in a row that we stayed here. There is not one thing I can think of that did not make our stay just as wonderful as last summer

The family that runs the hotel is superb. Nikos, Evangelia and their two boys, Mihali and Panagiotis always go above and beyond to make every guest feel welcome. Always with a smile on their faces!!

If you are considering visiting Rhodes, this hotel should be your choice. Pristine pools, spacious rooms, good food and pleasant staff make it top notch.

We are already talking about the next trip, hopefully next summer, and there is no question as to where we will be staying.

These apartments are really something special. Run by a friendly family who can't do enough for you.

Rooms are basic but exceptionally clean. Cleaned everyday. All staff speak great English and cannot help enough. You can be anonymous but also feel part of the "family" for your stay. They even arranged for they're family doctor to attend when needed.

Food was very good, home cooked and good value. They even made vege specials for us. Even the liquor was homemade to a secret recipe!

Nice swimming pools. Clean and reguarly serviced. Open early till late ( I don't think they'd mind what time you were in it!)

The area is quiet, beach isnt the nicest but there are buses to take you to other parts of the island for nicer beaches if you wish. The other side of the island takes about 30mins across to kalithea and the other beaches.

Rhodes town about 20 mins by car.

Local area is quiet. There are 3-4 restaurants. Mikes and billies and bells vista are all nice. Bells vista do more Greek style food. Most restaurants seem to be family owned and run which is nice.

Overall a very nice apartment to have a holiday- you won't be disappointed.

One final thing - there are two all inclusive hotels nearby, because they're all inclusive they just encourage guests to stay in their hotels. This is a real shame because the local family businesses will only be there when there is a trade. This is apparent when you see how many local places have closed. Come on people - don't give all your money to the big companies. Spread it around. Book your accomodation and travel seperatly. Try the local restaurants and buy in the local shops. Not only will you have a great holiday but you will also get better value AND better quality. These big hotels will kill the island and in the end mean we all have less choice and less value.

A big thank you to all at filoxinia.
