If you're looking for a 'fun in the sun,' right on the beach, drinking all hours and kids clubs type of set up then this place is not for you.

If, like us, you want somewhere totally peaceful, miles from the noisy resorts, surrounded by lemon trees and olive groves and excellently located to explore the many many historical and beautiful places on the island of Rhodes, then you cant go far wrong.

The younger girl in the family, who mostly looked after us, was super helpful, friendly and very easy going. The pool and bar area is gorgeous. (Give the tortoiseshell cat who hangs out by the pool a pet from me :-) The rooms were cleaned regularly and were spotless and simple. They are modern and sealed so get very hot but a fan can be hired form only 2 Euro per day or upgrade to AC.

Rhodes was far more than I expected. Rhodians are extremely friendly. The island has so much history and natural beauty to see. Don't miss ancient Kameiros, an ancient preserved town only a few km from Hotel Alkmini, Rhodes old town, and Rhodes acropolis, valley of the butterflies and Lindos (Lindos only if you can tolerate the tour groups, generic shops of tatt and depressed overworked donkeys carrying fat sunburnt tourists up the hill.)

The beaches are far better on the other side of the island and less windy, with excellent snorkelling (try kalithea) so no excuses for hanging around the hotel, gorgeous and relaxing as it is!

Room Tip: Consider an AC room if you're not suited or used to the heat. The big windows and lack of ventil...

Just returned from a lovely relaxing fortnight at the Alkmini Hotel. Very friendly family ran hotel, with a nice pool and garden area. It has a nice poolside bar, and the food served there is spot on!! Nearest bar is a 5min walk down the road (Lemon Tree) and there are plenty other bars along the main road which are a a little walk away but in those temperatures who cares?!? Supermarket is about 5/10 mins walk away, and the owner will deliver water and things for €1 if you tell him that you're staying at the Alkmini. DO NOT pay for hotel transfers with your holiday company though!! A taxi from the Airport is on €14. Local beach is very pebbled, and rocky but suits the local water sports perfectly.

Thanks a lot to Mike, Alkmini, Rita, and the other girl (whose name I never caught) for a great stay.

Whilst the hotel and staff were great the location if the hotel certainly is not. According to the brochure there is a supermarket and restaraunts close by. This is not the case, expect a good 10 min walk to nearest supermarket ( not ideal when carting bottles of water) and 15-20 minutes to nearest taverna. The beach is nothing to write home about either. All in all a relaxing holiday but 1 week was enough

Myself and my partner stayed at the Alkmini Hotel back in July. We booked thorugh teletext holidays on a last minute for some much needed sun and we were pleasantly suprised when we arrived at the Alkmini. Rita was working at reception and checked us into our room, the room was fabulous, clean and plenty of room. It was very late when we arrived so we were feeling very hungry. Rita offered to cook something for us at the taverna so off we went for some lovely food.

The location of Tholos has enough to keep you entertained if you are looking for a sunbathing holiday but if you are looking to site see then the best option is to head down to see one of the rental places and then the island is your oyster.

Throughout our stay Mike, his wife and Rita (his daughter) were so lovely and generous with their hospitality, I really felt very overwhelmed by how much they went out of their way to may everyone feel so welcome.

I know that one day we will return to the Hotel and I would seriously rate this highly if you are not looking for the Ritz.

Thanks again to Mike and his family. xx

Room Tip: Our room was great, it was was located on the first floor, if you can get a choice I would pick some...

We visited Alkmini in June 2012 and had a fantastic time. Neither of us had stayed in the area before and were a bit unsure thanks to some less than favourable online reviews. However, the package price from icelolly.com was so low that we decided to chance it for an eleven night stay. As soon as we arrived we were relieved to find a perfectly clean and spacious room with two large balconies with sea and inland views. The real delight for both of us throughout the holiday was the amazing hopsitality shown to us my the owner and his family. Not only did they offer us one or two complimentary drinks every night but they also invited us to share their evening meal one night. Mike and his daughter were always friendly and interested, offering advice and ideas throughout our stay, as well as recommending an excellent (and presumably rival) taverna in the nearby village. The wonderful welcome shown by the owners really made our holiday and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Try to get Room 201
