Stayed at the Doreta with my Husband and 2 Children plus our Friends with their 2 Children. Having already done our research, we had pre-booked the Superior Rooms but were still a little worried and unsure of what to expect after reading previous reviews. We arrived at 11.15 in the evening and were met by a male receptionist who was by no means grumpy but neither was he extremely friendly. Our rooms were on the 3rd Floor. They were quite small - the King Sized Bed takes up much of the room and when you are squeezing in 2 other beds it can become quite cramped, but hey who spends all their time in the room. They were cleaned every day and sheets changed every day. The Bathroom was quite spacious and was also clean. My Husband and my Friend took it in turns to get up in the morning to ensure that we had sunbeds. If you were down later than 7.30am you had very little chance of getting one. The pool is quite deep but there are a couple of areas where you can stand. Our children played fine in the main pool but if you are worried there is a smaller shallow children's pool. The animations team work hard throughout the day and there are various sporting activities for you to participate in if you wish. I do however have to agree that the evening entertainment is quite bad and the room where it is carried out is very hot. Best place in the evening is at the beach bar where you can watch the children play and be cooled by the lovely breeze. The service at the bars was quite quick and the drinks were fine. Alcoholic Drinks were definitely not watered down and quite a good choice of Fizzy Soft Drinks. However the fruit juices were definitlely watered down and could be quite tasteless. On to the food - this was ok. Can't say it was brilliant but it wasn't horrible either. Everyone managed to find something to eat and as previous reviews state the desserts were lovely. My main gripe would be that only 1 warm vegetable was served at mealtimes and there wasn't enough labeling above each dish to tell you what was being served, but there were plenty salad choices to choose from. Also be careful in the Dining Room as the floor can be very slippy. On a couple of evenings we went out to Dundee's Bar to watch the Singer. Had a lovely meal at Mike's Bar and also went to Tholos Village and had a lovely more traditional Greek meal at a little Taverna called "Drossier". The Hotel is defintely not 4/5 Star but based on our experience would class it as 3. All in all we had a lovely holiday with our Friends and had no major gripes or concerns. Would I recommend this Hotel? Yes to anyone who wants a fairly cheap, relaxing holiday in the sun with their children. Definitely not to people who are expecting 4/5 Star Luxury because at the moment this Hotel does not deliver to that standard.

Last minute booking in May so not expensive. Room on 3rd floor spacous with spa bath and large bed. (However, would have been VERY disappointed with room on 1st or 2nd floor which were poorly furnished, with old bathrooms, chipped furniture). Hotel being refurbished so no spa/gym as advertised. Food bland but good quality and restaurant clean and bright. Entertainment not up to much with bar areas lacking atmosphere. Hotel a bit out of the way - couldnt find Tholos - seemed a bit like a one street village. Didnt hire car so didnt get to Lindos as bus servcie haphazard (perhaps because May?) One hour to Rhodes town 2 euros. What made it for us was the large sitting out areas - gardens with direct access to the beach, plenty sunbeds, so very relaxing. Staff at the poolside bar were great - the 2 women during the day and the two guys at night who had an excellent line in patter! On reflection, the folk who got most out of this holiday were those with young kids as there was everything on site to keep the kids happy without constantly having to dip into pockets for juice and icecream.

The Doreta Beach is good value for money this isn't a 5* this is a 3* hotel the food was fine and plentyful if you didn't like what you had ,just get up and get more this wasn't a problem, the floor in the restaurant was very slippy and we noticed many people going flying .We stayed on the 3rd floor which was clean and modern i cannot comment on the other floors , the pool area was big and yes it was deep but it wasn't a problem as my children could swim. Sunbeds were a problem is you were not up early , for how many people to how many sunbeds and how much room they had there should have been much more than there was .The drinks were fine but the juice in a morning were watered down and tasted dreadful, the omlettes in the morning were great you could also get bacon ,beans, sausages, bread, toast and fruit . Outside of the hotel not much at all but pay a visit to Mike's for food this was fantastic and Dundee's for the footy and a sing a long apart from that not much else.
All i can say is it is good value for money and my kids keep talking none stop about it.
If you have booked to go to this hotel with children you will enjoy it not for couples on their own...

just returned from holiday at doretta beach i'm affraid i have to agree with most of the negative comments about this hotel, the bar staff did go on strike for 2 hours we were left without any drinks including soft drinks we found the night bar staff to the pool bar the most miserable it helps if your under 25 and are female, if you didn't claim a sun bed by 7.30am you had no chance of getting one, the toilets to the games room were cleaned once a day and were not fit for use after lunch time, we had a standard room and asked to be upgraded to the upper floors only to be advised it would cost us an extra £300 this was for three people for two weeks, the standard rooms are clean but very basic, the bathroom was tiny and the shower wasn't fitted properly, the life guard spent most of his time behind the bar or on his computor, the pool is too deep for most people ranging from 1.7m to 2.1m, we couldn't in all honesty recommend this hotel and would not return there is nothing to do out side the hotel apart from visit one bar down the road to watch "elvis" don't bother!,

This is our second visit to Doreta Beach and must admit it is not as good as our first visit in June 2007. The rooms are of a good standard; clean but basic, but who goes on on holiday to spend all their time in the room. We had two room both on the first floor and we could not fault any of them. The food was good with a wide variety each meal time, breakfast was outstanding. They have just introduced serving the evening meal in two sittings but we went anytime and they let us in. Always remember to wait for the restaurant manager to greet and seat you never find your own table. The swimming pool is very deep and cold but the sea is lovely but can be rough so be careful. Entertainment not up to much infact it was the same this year as it was two years ago when we went.
We always found the staff to be very friendly, a please and thank you goes a long way.
The only thing we were disappointed with is that last time we went we had free water sports and there was none of this available this year, and there is no gym or spa as advertised. Also remember to get up early for your sunbed or they will be gone.

I think first impressions always count... so book a superior room. Our room was lovely, cleaned every day, clean towels and bedding. (3rd floor) Huge bed, flat screen TV, jacuzzi bath and separate shower.
I am used to going on cruises with p & O so was worried. On arrival the reception man was polite and allocated us 2 superior rooms (we were lucky as we had only paid for one superior room).
I was always served well by the bar staff, they were never rude always pleasant. They were rushed off their feet due to the time of year. There was always plenty of food and I never went hungry. It is all buffet style but their was a good choice. Fresh omelettes for breakfast were nice. When we went to our evening meal we were always greeted by the manager and promptly shown to a table.
The pool was large, I have to agree with some of the other reviews, I feel there should be a shallow end. I am 5ft 7in and there were very few places I could touch the bottom. There is not a problem for toddlers as there is a childrens pool, but if you have children over 6 it would have been a worry to me. (definately a design fault)

The evening entertainment was not our cup of tea , however it was no worse that many other hotels I stayed at at least the team were keen and friendly, it is all just a bit of fun, the childrens min disco was nice to watch. ( I would say really suitable for under 9's but some older ones joined in.)
Disappointed there was no spa as this was the main reason for booking. As for the sunbeds...... well if you cant beat them join them. Get out of bed before 9 and you do not have a problem getting a bed. Unforunately many people got up at the crack of dawn and put towels on the beds and did not end up using them until luchtime. There are many sunbeds and out of prime season it probably would never be a problem. We managed to get beds every day except our first day.
This hotel is only 5-10 minutes taxi ride from the hotel. A taxi will carry 4 passengers. Cheaper to get a taxi once you are there. We paid for an expensive transfer that was not needed. (Probably only 3 miles from the hotel)

Hotel is right on the beach. Sea was lovely but there are pebbles to walk over before you can swim, worth taking a pair or water type shoes.
