AVOID !!!! LIKE THE PLAGUE CHANGE YOUR BOOKING BUT DO NOT STAY HERE SORRY ITS SO LONG BUT DO READ AS THERE ARE A FEW TIPS THAT IF YOU DO GO ARE VERY VERY IMPORTANT YOU MUST KNOW !!!!!!!.. I always check the reviews of hotels we visit and usually the are the few that for whatever reason have had a bad time and just want to vent their anger .Then there those that had a good time and want to be helpful and tell people tips I dont usually contribute to this but in this case PEOPLE NEED TO BE WARNED TO STAY AWAY. Upon arrival we were told the room we had booked was not available ie sea view on floor 3/4/5 as these are the refurbished ones as all the reviews state .We lived with this as were told available in morning and it was late .The room we were put in was a HOVEL cramped not private and unclean, bugs, decor, aroma, beds, air-con faulty I can go on but as this is going to be long anyway I wont. when after 3 days we got a better room on 2nd floor it was better but only just .We got to see the apartment we had booked which was nicer but still not 4/5 star as this place was sold to us as .Our room was not available because on damage by previous people THIS WAS LIES AS WE LEARNT ON OUR LAST BUT ONE DAY .OK FOOD !!! we had no stomach problems from it but we know of lots that did .. It was repetitive and recycled ie salad/meats and veg at breakfast reused at lunch and dinner. We ate there for the first 3 days but then as we started to recognise food for the 2nd or third time we ate out ,which I have to say showed how good the food can be and how VERY VERY bad the hotel food was it was the cheapest of everything and therefore the poorest quality .. Have fried eggs and toast for breakfast as these seem to be the only things they cant recycle. As stated by others drinks all of them from "fruit juice " beer ,wine and spirits all very poor watery tasteless or just not available as dispensers broken .Desserts too were appalling but the least of your worries .Entertainment as stated by others on the nights we watched 3 out of 10 was sometimes not appropriate for a family nights entertainment. We were pleased by the pool which although VERY DEEP and not for the poor swimmers out there was always clean and rubbish free .Forget trying to get a sunbed as if your not up and out by 630 am you have no chance .Snack bar and outside bar areas both dirty and understaffed although food at snack bar ie toasties were the ONLY thing were actually apart from pancakes cooked fresh for you in the whole place .Do have a car although quite expensive compared to spain/canaries etc .This is a MUST firstly the island/tavernas / Rhodes old town /Harbour at Rhodes plus trip up into hills to the honey village and local wineries and beach side tavernas are all an absolute MUST SEE . PLUS PLUS !!! as you have to be out of your roomss by 12 with no late checkout available unless you want to leave your luggage with all the others in the front foyer of the hotel where several went missing during the day with just one security guard for the whole complex was very alarming you need to put it in your car for safety and it CANT GET TAMPERED WITH EITHER. I would also advise being at the RECEPTION by 715 on your last day so as to grab a FRESH UP ROOM before you set of for the airport they have 3/4 which lots of people use so be the first to use them as they get very bad .. THIS WAS A USEFUL TIP PASSED TO US keep some towels back as there are none provided in these "COURTESY ROOMS" .I could go on about no gym/spa,the kids leisure complex a tent with broken machines and pool tables ,table tennis and air-con that ALL DIDNT WORK . Or the beach next to an oil refinery the sea albeit reasonably clean after you have got through the poor beach but this could go ON and ON .TO cut it short we are seasoned travellers we have holidays every year in various parts of the world and have had bad good and excellent holidays but NEVER even in third world countries have we had this level of deception this hotel is 2 STAR at BEST and below THIRD WORLD ONE STAR at worst if this stops just one family having the worst holiday in RHODES a beautiful place by the way by NOT STAYING HERE the time taken to write this will have been worth it . WE found the greek people to be naturally friendly and helpful this place appears to be run by little other than money grabbing liars promising dreams but delivering dire disapointment and certainly not the experiance we had outside of the DREADFUL HOVEL .GO TO RHODES AS ITS BEAUTIFUL BUT AVOID THIS "HOTEL" as its just a bad place .If you need any more info please ask

Returned from one weeks stay at the Doreta Beach Hotel, what can i say !!!! After 3 room changes this hotel is not 4star or 5star .We were dissapointed with the staff ,reception staff and bar staff had no manners at all.On a brighter note the hotel is currently being upgraded and if you are lucky enough to get a room on the 3rd floor or above you will be okay, the pool and the private beach are lovely but be warned if you would like a sun bed then you will have to be up at around 6am in the morning, which is not what you should be doing on holiday. Food - well lets just say fill up at breakfast !!!!!!! no entertainment unless you are under 10yrs old, go to mikes bar for dinner out hotel turn left , great food and service , maybe the hotel should send their staff over to be trained in good service..lovely area , but would not go back to this hotel untill it has been fully upgraded most people who we spoke to where not happy at all.....good luck if you are booked up...people say you get what you pay for but £500 for 1 week i expected something better.

We visited Doreta beach with our 2 children aged 12 and 16 and mother of 66. On the whole a pleasant stay. Our 16 year old loved it as he made lots of friends.
Good points
*close to airport
*nice spots on beach with breeze
*warm water to swim in
*good variation on food
*drinks of high standard
*weather fantastic
*room on 3rd floor very pleasant (although did see pretty horrific examples of rooms on other floors!!)

dissappointing points
*rude reception staff all the way from arrival to departure
*disgusting courtesy room on last day, we were 14 hours without a room then had 40 minutes to share a room between 5 of us and were only allowed one clean towel between 2 of us...hardly 5 star!
*loud music by pool every day
*stray dogs on beach
*lifts constantly breaking down
*lots of drunk parents taking advantage of AI even with very young children up very late...very sad to see
*tour of Island was interesting but guide obviously being given a tip by ensuring we eat at certain restaurant and also visit various shops (with the focus completely taken away from obvious beauty spots)

All in all this was a good holiday but what a shame only lived upto its usual 3* expectation for a 5* greek hotel. If we had had better service, more amiable staff, more smiles, more helpful, more willing to help then the feel of this holiday could have been very different. the hotel was a good 3* with service worthy of a 1*.

Got back 22/7/09 after 1 week break. Ignore the good reviews and believe the bad. Had read reviews so made sure we booked for 3rd/4th floor thankfully. On arrival given key and went in very small slow lifts (of which only 2 of the 3 were working!) to our room which still had unmade beds from the previous occupant and nothing had been cleaned. The maid came and sorted the beds but the bathroom cleaning left a lot to be desired. In fact all week the shelf and mirror in the bathroom weren't touched by the cleaner and frequently she didn't leave enough towels or a bath mat. The best thing about the hotel was the animation team - they were a bit loud during the day but worked very hard in the evening and actually put on much better shows than many other hotels we've been to. They weren't west end standard but they weren't cringe-worthy like many hotels. The pool was very deep for 90% of it and not that big for the number of people but the temperature wasn't bad. The sunbeds (of which there were nowhere near enough) were the most uncomfortable i have ever experienced. Reserving sunbeds was forbidden but everyone did it so in the end we took the towels off beds that had obviously been reserved and gave them to the lifeguard. When the people arrived we sent them to the lifeguard saying 'not allowed to reserve sunbeds'. It was hardly relaxing having to fight for beds every morning. Also if you did get them they were quite cramped in so felt like everyone sitting on top of you. Food was very boring - it was edible but the veg and (good)fruit were fairly scarce. Ok if you want chips and pasta and everyday there was pork , veal or dry turkey. Not appetising but you want starve. Icecream was available between 11 and 5 but the girl serving never smiled once. Water wasn't available by the pool until after 11am and the fruit juice was squash so if you don't want fizzy you struggled. The beach was ok but quite stony so not easy underfoot getting in the sea. Also quite a lot of waves as good breeze on this side of the island. Adopted couple of lovely dogs on the beach and made sure they were fed and watered. Even they turned their noses up at the food some days! Lots of amusements for kids like air hockey tables etc but need 1 euro each go - not included in all-inclusive. Water sports consisted of banana boat and rubber rings whcih everyone seemed to enjoy (12 euros each for 2 person ring). Also windsurfing there. Trip to Lindos awful - rep said would take about 40 mins on coach - took 2.5 hours! Really hot when we got there and nobody mentioned to wear trainers or good shoes to go up to the Acropoli as the paths are really slippery. Good free pool and bar where the coach drops you off. Went to Rhodes Old Town which was nice but full of tourist shops and restaurants/bars trying to get you in. Beware if you order a large beer - check what they mean. We ordered large beer (thinking 1 pint), fruit juice and water and it was 20.5 euros! The beer came in a huge boot that was difficult to lift and was about 2.5 pints, the fruit juice was a thick mix with dodgy looking fruit round the rim and a sparkler - only the water was what we asked for. We left the beer as it was awful and felt really ripped off. Taxis were ok - 12 euros to airport and 20 to Rhodes Town. Generally glad we were only there for a week and happy to come home. Didn't feel like we ever really relaxed as nothing was really right. Can't say generally it was horrendously wrong but it was a long way from being the 5* we expected or the 4* standard we usually choose.

My girlfriend and i returned from a weeks all inclusive stay at the Doreta Beach on Sunday 19th of July. We booked our holiday last minute. Before booking our holiday to this hotel we read the reviews on trip advisor and holiday watchdog and everything seemed great and went through with the booking. On arrival at the hotel our expectations were shattered. All travel agents advertise all rooms as refurbished for 2009 and all come with sea or garden views, well they don't and haven't!!!! Our first room was number 120C, it overlooked a corridor of other rooms. I feel sorry for anyone allocated that room. We were moved after complaining to the reception to another across the hall which we then over looked the mountains this was a little better although it was the first floor and the first and second floor have not been renovated!!! The third, fourth and fifth floors are like the Ritz compared to the lower floors. In both our rooms on the first floor the air conditioning units were useless. I complained several times to get the reply of an engineer has been called. It never was fixed in either room. The food at the hotel was not 5*, it was repetitive for the 7 days we stayed. Veal, turkey and pork the pick of the meat if you can it meat. More like fat and gristle. The salad was poor, certainly not fresh everyday. The chicken was good when it was cooked which wasn't often. The lunchtime meals seemed to be better than the evening meals but weren't brilliant. It was hit or miss wether it was good or bad. It got worse as more guests arrived as the catering team couldn't cope with the numbers. Tables weren't cleared before other guests were seated. We ate out from wednesday to saturday at a great little bar called dundee's. A short walk from the hotel. Most punters in there were from the doreta which says everything about the food. The drinks were decent and the service was good at both bars, the 3rd bar thats advertised was used as a storage room. The spa thats advertised on the internet must be a myth because i never saw it. The gym thats advertised is a building sight and the indoor swimming pool must be at another hotel. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone a massive disappointment and we're now in the process of complaint with our tour operator on some sort of compensation if possible. If it were possible this hotel would struggle to get -100 out of 10. Its terrible.
