“Amazing dives”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

We made two dives with my wife. Both awesome. We loved the Anemone reef, soooo many fishes, anemones and other stuff. But touching the adult leopard shark on Sharkpoint is something i ´ll never forget. Hopefully we ´ll come next winter, so we can go to Phi Phi. Divemasters and thai captain: thank you one more time.

“Great day of diving”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

Initially we struggled to get in touch with these guys but after taking a motorbike trip to see them on site we organised a two day dive at Shark point and Anemone Reef. The guys were friendly, they went out of their way to achieve all the requests we had, the gear was in good order, everything was well organised, the speedboat was excellent and we were very happy with our dives. We saw so much sea life we got tired arms from pointing haha. Great benefit of location - they are the closest of all to these fantastic sites. Overall very pleased with the service and if we had more time here we would have gone out with them again.

“Very Poor Performance of the Crew”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

We joined one of their diving/snorkeling trips to Phi Phi Island in January 2014; we did snorkeling only. Overall we were happy with the location but we were very dissapointed with the performance of the Czech crew.

The tour consisted of three stopps around Koh Phi Phi Leh, two of which were for snorkeling and diving, while one of them was for snorkeling/swimming only and to see the famous Maya Beach. The day ended with a visit of Koh Phi Phi Don. The spots were nice but crowded and the condition of the corals clearly showed the impact of the tourist crowds, who visit thiese sites daily.

With 2900 baht per person for snorkelers, the tour was quite expensive, especially because there was no lunch included, which can be a problem on a one-day tour. Only some pieces of pinapples and melons, along with water and softdrinks were provided. The general atmosphere was rather cool and therefore highly in contrast to the warm and friendly Thai menthality. There was no proper briefing in advance and the information, which the crew shared during the trip was very limited only. When we asked about the presence of jellyfish, they said that it was unlikely. In reality the third spot was full of jelly fish and my wife ended up with bad bruises, which she can still feel after 5 days. Or that we would visit Koh Phi Phi Don in the end was not announced until we actually went there. On the island the crew announced that it would be a 90-minutes stay only. After 90 minutes everyone was back at the pier, except the crew itself who came 15 minutes late, making everyone wait for them and not even appologizing for being late.

The diving procedure seemed to be in a rush, which was confirmed by some divers who actually felt stressed one of them ended up with a panic attack in the water. And we snorkelers were not properly monitored, on the first spot we suddenly discovered the boat to be very far away from us making it impossible to call them on an emergency. On the third spot all crew members went diving themselves, leaving only the two Thai boys on the boat. One of them took a nap and I have my doubts whether the other one actually monitored what was going on in the water. When I returned to the boat one crew member was back on the boat and I yelled at him from two meters distance to lower the ladder but he did not hear me, nor did I get any other reaction.

Overall it was a very poor and partly dangerous performance of the crew, which they probably can only get away with because they are the only diving center on Koh Yao Yai.

TIP: They also offer non-diving trips, e.g. to Koh Khai for snorkeling for 1900 baht per person. I recommend not to go with them but rather to check in the village 5 minutes from the resort. There is a little advertising board, opposite the local store and next to a restaurant, where Mr. Fai offers nice trips with his longtail boat for a fraction of Elixir Divers' prices. With him, e.g. snorkeling at Koh Khai will cost 1300 Baht only, for up to 6 persons and with unlimited time!

Dear Mr. Obwaldner,

as the new owner and managing director since October 2014, I am going through reviews and feel unhappy for your feelings about stay with Elixir Divers in January this year.

I would like to ensure you that my new crew is very experienced and easygoing, Tomas and Michael are absolutely fantastic and patient instructors so rush is the one and last thing than can occur while diving.

ED is diving base and organizing longtail boat trips is not our primary activity, but we know locals, locals know us for more than 8 years already, so it is about trust, responsibility and safety for customers if they book any trip with us + we provide refreshments on boat and snorkeling sets. The price is also only 1000 THB per person to Koh Khai Nai. However we offer private speedboat trips to Koh Khai islands lately which is maybe more fun and more comfortable.

Sorry again for your wife and jelly fish accident. Hope she is fine!

Good luck and wish you all the best.

“Underwhelming, pushy and a lax attitude to safety.”
Reviewed November 7, 2013

We booked to go diving but once out in the water the instructor had to be persuaded to take us on a proper dive, rather than the two "practice" dives of a couple of metres which he initially offered. The sites were pretty uninspired for Thailand - lots of dead coral. What was really worrying was their attitude towards safety. The boat started it's propellers and began moving on four occasions when people were snorkelling in the water around the boat. This could have resulted in a horrendous accident. The boat also left the snorkellers stranded in the water whilst it went to pick up another diver (who had been left alone by one of the dive instructors). The owner of the business was also really pushy, telling the owner of our hotel that we'd booked to go on a boat trip the next day when we plainly had not. Not a good experience at all.

“Nice dives, friendly people, good times.”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

My wife and I dove here on Jan 18, 2013. We were guided by Pavel (Paul). As well as leading us on the dive, Pavel also took plenty of pictures and burned them to a CD for us afterwards. We cruised down to Koh Phi Phi and did 1 dive, stopped off at the famous Phi Phi island where Leonardo killed sharks in the Beach, before doing our 2nd dive. Afterwards we stopped off at Phi Phi Don which was a nice stopover as we had not planned to make it there on this trip.

Overall, great folks, nice dives and we had a great time.
