“Peaceful haven”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Have just come back from 6 nights at Koh Yao Yai and can't wait to go back!!! Such a beautiful place, the island is so unspoiled and the people are very friendly. We had a bungalow in the jungle which was not overlooked at all, the outside shower was great and the room was comfortable and spacious. We had a couple of minor problems with the aircon, but this was fixed immediately. The food in the restaurant was very good and not overpriced. Breakfast was adequate. The staff couldn't have worked any harder to make us welcome, they were fantastic. Had a wonderful massage in the Spa. The pool was great, perfect temperature with an awesome view. The sea was very shallow when the tide was in and not great for swimming in, but with such a great pool it didn't matter. Scooter hire is a must to look around the area. Be warned that you must arrange your flight so you can catch the ferry across to the island, or do what we did..... find a local company to take you across on a longtail boat in the dark.....an amazing experience. If you're looking for glitz and glamour this isn't the place for you, but if you want to have a total break from modern life, you couldn't find a better place, we'll certainly be going back.

We stayed at the Koh Yao Yai Village on October 2012, we booked a Seaview Bungalow online. Getting there during low season was quite an adventure. We were told by the hotel that we needed to take a boat to Koh Yao Noi and then a transfer to another pier to get a second boat to Koh Yao Yai. But through rumors we heard of a boat that would go directly to Koh Yao Yai, eventually we got a thai speaking person from our previous hotel to contact Koh Yao Yai Village by phone and actually confirm that a direct boat was going, and find out what time to be at the pier!

The room was as described in all BUT one small detail- no sea view ☹ We were quite disappointed to see that we had no real view, trees on one side, a creek of suspiciously murky water on the front, with some mangroves, and another bungalow to the other side. If you peak from the corner, you could see where the creek reached the beach (just like 5cm of beach view). We asked for a exchange, but although many other rooms looked empty they told us they were booked (over the days the rooms actually got full- but we heard of other guest being offer sea view upgrades, which they took after the rooms were shown to them). I guess if you were shown our room, you would not pay the difference. It was disappointing the fact that we were paying as much as the other guest but had no view, I felt quite cheated. I would recommend people to avoid room 706 at all cost, or demand to pay a lower fare for it. On top of everything many lights of the room were not working, and we had to wait in the room for 3hs until they fix them... obviously this room had not been used in a while...

The room was big, comfortable and looked clean. Unfortunately it look like it had been used in a while and the sheets had a quite musty smell- almost like mold (it is understandable with the humidity of the place), but I couldn’t sleep the first night due to my asthma and allergies, until I pull out my own sheets from the suitcase. Make sure you ask for fresh clean sheets if you have mold allergies!

People overall are very friendly, food is a bit overprice but tasty. The main pool is great. All 12 private Seaview Bungalows share a second pool and are individually set apart overlooking rice fields near the coastal shores to the Resort. This pool has a weir construction, some weir statues on it, and I do not understand why they planted trees in front to cover the view?!

As a summary I would recommend this place if you want to have some relaxing quiet time, but be careful what room you pay for! As for the management I would recommend them to change the status of room 706, and have an intermediate fare for this room…

For a couple looking to switch off & unwind you can't go past this place. We had read the reviews & knew it was remote - 30min speedboat ride from Phuket - not much close by etc so we jumped at it & boy we were not disappointed. Koh Yao Yai is a small quiet little island but gorgeous. Beats the crazy crowds of Phi Phi any day. The resort itself - stunning! Whoever designed this place should be commended. It blends perfectly with the environment &, as others have mentioned, there is no bad villa & that infinity pool - WOW! The restaurant was pretty good - surprisingly not insane pricing but we did hire a scooter from the resort for 24hrs for 500 baht & got out around the island to explore & eat. There are a few great little eating places around if you keep an eye out & some nice beaches to swim at. Roads are all sealed & it was an easy ride - even if you have never ridden a scooter before. I would HIGHLY recommend this place to any couples looking to relax in comfort & beauty without breaking the bank. We don't often return to places - so much of the world to see - but I do feel we will return to Koh Yao Yai Village.

I had the chance to stay there during the low season (June) when the resort is almost empty and I had the best vacation i could dream of. The bungalow was absolutely perfect, the service as well, everything was very quiet and ideal to rest. In short, perfect.

We just came back from this hotel last week. LOVE everything - Deluxe Bungalows , Food , Pool and amazing views from restaurant and pool. Friendly staff with a nice smile and welcoming, just only one issue before we left : we had booked the transfer out from the hotel to Klong Hier Pier at 13:30 hrs. to take the speedboat at 14:00 hrs. We wait at the lobby area from 13:25 - 13:45 hrs.but still no service provided, at that time 2-3 staff at front desk but seems that they did not realized until we asked for our transfer. Apart from this , our stay was very relaxing.

After a week traveling the north of Thailand we decided to calm the pace dramatically for 5 days and booked our stay at the Yao Yai Village. Once arrived we upgraded to a sea view room. Extra cost but also extra space and a stunning view. Not sure if the extra amount is totally justified because the deluxe bungalows are also great (we compared first). Very friendly staff, everything is spotless and tidy. It is 'shoulder season' now so prices aren't maxed and the place is relatively quiet. I reckon only 15% of the bungalows are occupied. We like it that way and it adds to the tranquility of the whole ambiance. Food is great but about twice as expensive as on the mainland. They offer tours and all sorts of activities. All seems well organized but everything comes with a pricetag.
Highly recommended but you need to have the budget.

A short 30 minute speed boat ride from Phuket Koh Yao Yai village is a wonderful resort style hotel fr those seeking to unwind. Very Eco-minded in their practices, from shuttling around in golf carts to their lighting practices. To top it all off the staff are very attentive and welcoming and the bungalows are unique on their open concept living. Rent scooters to visit the island!
